Yay‼️ GB News Channel about to launch ...

I watched a bit of Andrew Neil's opening statement (I'm a glutton for punishment) In it he talked about being the voice of those who have been side-lined, ignored etc.

Given that they are avowedly right wing, that we have a right wing government in charge and the right wing Brexit project is chugging on, who exactly are all these ignored people?

It sounds to me very much like the kind of propaganda that made people in the first half of the 20th century think that they were the victims, that "they" were out to get them.

I didn't watch the opening episode of GB news, not a big fan of Andrew Neil although I do admit he tackles politicians rather more robustly than many other interviewers which is good to see. So, are the GB team going to get anyone of interest or importance on there? Cummings, Schapps, Patel? I would like to see any of those given a grilling. However, anything where the guest list has Alan Sugar, he of the abrasive, backstabbing programme The Apprentice, or any of its contestants, or Farage, is likely to not be on my list.

I think most of us understand that the horrors of the Holocaust are at the extreme end of rightwing politics.

We all see other opinions in relation to our own. There are members of the Labour Party who seem to regard Keir Starmer as "far right" which is abject nonsense.

However I think there is a real concern about the recent rise of right wing populism in many countries in the world because we have seen what that can lead to.

There are plenty of Holocaust deniers and I’ve noted anti semitism on this forum before. Hey ho as a Jew I’m resigned to it. It is interesting though how so many members of this forum describe any view that differs from theirs as far right. You have no idea and it’s so lazy.

I have not watched any of the old media, particularly the BBC news. My husband and I watch UK Column news who are more factual.

I settled down to watch Dan Wooton, who I rather like, at 9pm last evening and fell sound asleep for almost an hour. So when I went to bed at 11pm I couldn't sleep, so am feeling very cross this morning.

Andrew Neil’s registered address is in France. Just saying. If you are interested in news of East Midlands airport, Teeside roads, Alan Sugar’s knee operation this is obviously the channel for you. Yawn.

It is also true that we wouldn't have got brexit without the Brexit Broadcasting Corporation relentlessly promoting Farage.

He appeared on Question Time no less than 29 times in the years before the fraudulent referendum of 2016 and he always got a good response from the QT audience who were carefully selected by former UKIP member Alison Fuller Pedley.

He rarely put in an appearance at EU meetings so how does that make him more knowledgeable about it than the rest of us?

He said last night the first short lockdown was appropriate. We had no vaccine and the fear at the time was overwhelming the NHS. No, not to much. He was concerned about the effect on people’s well being, freedoms and mental health. Sensible chap.

So will this programme contain all the intellectual dishonesty we usually see from the hard-right?

Will there be the standard self-serving and covering the propaganda with the fast-fudging we see so often from this country's small group of extremists? What proportion of whataboutery, straw men and dead cats will we see or will they just not allow any intellectual honesty? I would also expect the kind of competitive debating that nearly killed democracy in the US. After all, it's all about the "winner" isn't it? The audience of such a programme doesn't expect a debate of different ideas to lead to understanding if not agreement. Goodness me no. That would mean no winner!

And someone must always win. Will they be voted off the programme if they don't I wonder. Let no one admit they may be wrong - or worse still that is not their area of knowledge or, the worst sin of all - wear the wrong clothes. They will surely be kicked out without a thought.

No, those who want to watch can look forward to cheering the dodging of the actual topic, the sneaking round the truth, the unaccountability of opinion, the personal attack to distract and the sudden ending because "we have run out of time". Since when did time run out?

I think there are a few on this forum who have been honing the craft of the dodgy debate for some time - perhaps they can get a job with this company - what was it called again? No, seriously, don't tell me. I cannot think I will have any need to know, thankfully.
