How fantastic does this woman look for 70 yrs of age? She's slim and extremely stylish, great hair as well and she wears stilettos! She's still working as a professor of English and she's the first lady of America. Not sure about the jacket with LOVE emblazoned on the back though. Apart from that my hat is off to you Jill! You're an example to us all.

I’m bemused as to why anyone is miffed at lack of praise for Carrie’s dress? I thought the thread was about Jill Biden.(see thread title)
Oh and should we be praising Wilfred’s t shirt and nappy ensemble too?

Jabberwok Fri 11-Jun-21 18:20:14

So did I Ilovecheese, but didn't have the bottle to say so on here.

Ilovecheese Fri 11-Jun-21 18:16:44

Just as an aside, I thought Melania Trump was beautiful.

I don’t know what GAMMON means, apart from the obvious, and I don’t feel bothered enough to look it up.

Don't bother!

That was bad manners Blossoming, you deserve an apology.
I think the sour grapes was because too many people praised Jill Biden and weren’t effusive enough about Carrie Johnson for some people’s taste. I had said in my earlier post that I thought Carrie looked nice, she was wearing the perfect formal dress for someone in their thirties, modest but with youthful puffy sleeves, but Jill Biden looked very good for her age too, her heels weren’t that high, she was wearing a recycled jacket she had in the election campaign which enforces the Democrats election message, and she looks like she looks after herself. It’s such a shame when threads turn into slanging matches where people seem to get their kicks by putting other people down due to blind political allegiances, particularly when it’s about something as incidental as what people are wearing.

Oh that's good GG13 and Sparklefizz, glad I'm not alone. I love her dresses, the pink fuchsia a bit young for me, but if I were (several !!) years younger I would certainly love that dress.

FannyCornforth Fri 11-Jun-21 17:54:47

Speaking for myself, I didn't realise that it was ever appropriate to wear the outfit you describe, lemongrove, whatever ones age.

Talullah Fri 11-Jun-21 17:53:36

I dislike the term WOKE and I also dislike the word GAMMON

The sooner they drop out of favour, which they will, the better.

Good post Lemon, made me giggle.

I’m so glad you’ve been able to have a good snigger at my expense.

FannyCornforth Fri 11-Jun-21 17:43:45

Okay. If we are going to throw around the term 'woke' with gay abandon; are we happy with the use of its antonym 'gammon'?

Please could someone explain ‘age appropriate’ clothes to me?

Why? Do you normally go about in skin tight leather trousers,
A skirt like a pelmet, tight vest top with boobs pushed up and out, crop tops showing a pierced navel?
If you don’t, then you know about age appropriate clothes.

How very rude, mean and patronising. I have gathered from previous reactions from you that you don’t like me, but there was no need to answer my post at all, let alone with such a mean-spirited, supercilious post.

I think Carrie has looked lovely so far and very happy.

I do Lemon! Only joking of course!!!???. Poor Carrie, I think she's going to have to settle for a grudging ok! Could it be who she's married to? Surely not, self righteous people on GN can't be that prejudice, can they?

I loved Carries LK Bennet dress and if it is in stock in my size it will very soon be hanging in my wardrobe.

People have discussed the issue of how the female partners of leaders are viewed for at least 50 years, way way before woke came into common use. So no it's really not a 'woke concept.

Exactly, it was part of a University course I was doing in the 80s, and another a few years back. Looking at statistics for a massive number of Press articles and TV comments on women politicians over the last 50 years. I was dubious at first, but the stats were quite staggering and really made an impression on me. Nothing to do with 'woke' nonsense.

No doubt there are many 70 year old ladies maybe older who are fortunate enough to look and be as Mrs Biden.
Health/ education /money/being in the right place at the right time ? just a few that wink help where Mrs Biden and many others 'having made it' now find themselves.

Fizzog is used in black country dialect too and I believed it meant face too

It’s a common term ( or used to be) ....physog ( physiognomy)
It means face when used as ‘take that look off your physog.’

I am going to use the word 'woke' again (scream quietly if you have to...) as I think it admirably sums up the stand taken by people who think women should not be objectified - as in being given a compliment.

FLOTUS is an elegant, well-dressed, highly intelligent woman who looks smart and is a complement to her husband in his important role in our world. Her size is neither here nor there but yes, she is able to look more elegant and stream-lined because of her weight.

If we can not say or think the above, it has become a sad woke world.

It’s too late, for some the wokeness is already deeply embedded it seems.
