Not quite sure what the significance of 25th June is.

Or if this is bona fide...

I feel sorry for Mr Singh and for the children.

It was well-meaning but has been taken over by politicians for their own ends.

Mr Singh was interviewed on radio 4 at teatime, he was bemused and bewildered by all the hate on twitter and said that he had come to this country with nothing and made a success of his life, becoming a policeman ( and eventually an Inspector) and thought he could give something back because this is a wonderful country. He also said the primary school children in Bradford, who are from all ethnic groups had a great time writing the song.
That being the case, don’t some people feel ashamed to be sending such awful messages to these children, who have worked on the song excitedly? I really fear that they don’t though.

It's so obvious that this was created by primary age children. I'm sure it is praiseworthy as a piece of primary school work, but it should never have been touted as something worthy of national attention.

There's more to Mr Singh than a naive and well-meaning promoter of goodwill.

No, I don't feel the slightest bit ashamed to write that.

Absolutely agree.

It is naive to think otherwise.

Schools already promote tolerance, kindness, respect and fairness through songs used in Assembly, through PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education) and through the nature of relationships between members of the school community. Many include reference to those standards in their mission statements. One wonders how aware Inspector Singh actually is of what happens in schools.

Callistemon “ the best National Anthem, the best singers, the best flag and ? the best team.”. Apart from the flag (I’m undecided) I agree and I’m English! Fantastic national anthem.

Actually I think my great great grandmother was welsh.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 24-Jun-21 07:58:55

It seems that this idea has a lead balloon tied to it, especially with a lot of middle class parents.

They generally don’t take part in nationalistic nonsense, and this is a prime example.

Fast becoming a damp squib.

I will be giving this song…..nil points. ?

Why? Just because Wales is devolved administration, they are still part of the whole. Is it anti English sentiment perhaps?

Callistemon ‘best national anthem, best singers, best flag and best team’ (Wales) ...that’s a matter of opinion.

It’s rather sad that those from Wales and Scotland feel they can’t have an all encompassing song for our nations on this day, shows how divisive even the older generation are.
It was a mistake not to check the school dates for Scottish terms, but this is a new special day, so no doubt it would be sorted better for next year.
Hope St John’s Primary teachers in Bradford aren’t reading this thread.

What a ridiculous piece of guesswork, anti English sentiment perhaps.? To make this nasty suggestion is completely uncalled for and a poor attempt of grasping at straws!

Not at all, my comment was made because of the blatant disregard Our Dear Leader obviously has for Wales as he forgot we have a football team at all, let alone one which qualified for the Euros.

Callistemon Thu 24-Jun-21 09:59:42

Not everyone has their own dragon.

Alegrias1 Thu 24-Jun-21 10:04:22

We have a unicorn.

Agreed, not on the flag. wink

lemongrove Thu 24-Jun-21 10:09:13

When it comes to flags....it’s all fine and dandy for Scotland and Wales to wave and fly their flags, but if the English flag of St George is flown or waved then it’s accusations of ‘white van man’ or the National Front. This isn’t even that ....it’s the Union Flag, and if children and schools in Bradford ( or anywhere else) want to wave little flags and sing on a special day ( one day, for Heavens sake )then why ever not.
All other countries in the world ( just about) have a special day and fly flags regularly, so it doesn’t hurt if on one day a year then we do to.
But really, all this fuss and outrage from some! There is nothing, nothing whatsoever, to compel schools to do this, it seems to be very local to Bradford, but if any other area wants to join in the future, then good on them, if they don’t, that’s fine too.

Sadly not fake news but another step towards the rise of intolerance, racism etc as National Socialism did in Germany in the 1930's.
Wise head teachers will have zero engagement perhaps using the premise that children have not been allowed to sing together with Covid?

Worthingpatchworker Thu 24-Jun-21 10:52:04

Ive had disquieting feelings for a while now......I don’t know if it is because I have a fascination for history...but...every now and then something pops up which makes me think of how Germany was overrun by certain folk.
We have a national anthem....God Save the Queen.....
Add into the mix the trespass act government are trying to push through, the appalling way the elderly are treated and sidelined and Universal Credit..(who thought up that name)...oh and notions of selling off chunks of the NHS.....creepy feelings.

Notright Thu 24-Jun-21 11:04:19

Oh dear someone must have complained because the words of the song are no long viewable. What is happening in this country. Getting communistic?

Beanie654321 Thu 24-Jun-21 11:09:54

I absolutely disagree with this as it is not representing that we maybe Britain but we are also 4 nations with 4 ideals and cultures. The Scottish and Welsh want their own identity and so they should, they want their language recognised and be able to look after their own people, which this government is ignoring. If they do breakaway then this government will not have as much revenue, to spend on themselves. I'm sorry to rant but I think strongly about this. Why shouldn't the Scottish and Welsh be able to decide on what's important for their nations, London has always taken the biggest share of things and the rest of the Grwat Britain have had the dregs.

MaggsMcG Thu 24-Jun-21 11:31:29

We are not one nation, not any more we are three maybe four different nations. Ever since the Welsh and the Scottish decided to give free prescriptions and other stuff free that has to be paid for in England. The respective Governments don't give a rats about the other nations, its all about whats good for them. Its now the Un-United Kingdom which is a shame.

annodomini Thu 24-Jun-21 11:33:29

If Gavin Williamson thinks it's a good idea, surely that's the 'kiss of death'.

vegansrock Thu 24-Jun-21 11:40:31

Why not teach them Rule Britannia and be done with it. Brainwashing rubbish.

OmaforMaya Thu 24-Jun-21 11:54:31

Lin52 I fully agree with what you say. I'm Scottish and up here north of the border our children are being blatently indoctrinated by the SNP even in their school classrooms. It's an utter disgrace how they are allowed to go into primary schools under the disguise of 'friendly chats' and en
ourage small children to hate all things English and sing the horrid lament 'Flower of Scotland' when it is not Scotland's actual Anthem. I cannot see what is wrong with children singing a song about the unity of our four nations and yes ....we are still a United Kingdom. ??????

Alegrias1 Thu 24-Jun-21 12:09:39

So were having a discussion about how this rather odd group are encouraging misplaced pride in a political entity that doesn't exist. But there are some people who can't resist a dig at free prescriptions, SNP and, for God's sake, Flower of Scotland.

What do you think is Scotland's anthem OmaforMaya? The one that talks about crushing rebellious Scots?

growstuff Thu 24-Jun-21 12:10:37

This kingdom is not united. It's not a good song.
