Far be it from me to defend Hancock, but if he had just left without saying goodbye people would be saying 'That poor child woke up to find that his dad had left, and he didn't even say goodbye.'
I really don't think that the details of the 'domestic' side of this story are for us to pick over. It's unfortunate, and as I say, I'm not defending him, but these things happen - marriages fail and families split.
The public interest part of it all is the hypocrisy, the corruption surrounding contracts for cronies, and his utter incompetence at his job. That, and the fact that Johnson didn't sack him despite all of the above.
