The emergency Brexit powers for lorries has been made permanent as the government expects further and more serious disruption.

This

I think the truth is that those of us who voted to remain are not getting more accepting over time, we are getting more and more furious at the utter imbecility of it all.

This fight is not over by a long chalk.

If, as they often claim, they knew EXACTLY what they were voting for, they are guilty of willfully damaging this country, and the future prospects of our children and grandchildren. An apology would be a start.

I can't help feeling from some of the responses on here that not everyone took on board the reasons for not leaving the EU since the current debacle has come as such a surprise to leavers. How they have the nerve to continue to defend leaving is mind boggling.

WWM2 and MaizieD Sorry - posted the above before getting to your later posts.

"But one can’t help think that Brexit is akin to ‘death by a thousand cuts’ for the UK’s leading financial hub. Every barrier that Brexit puts in the way of the free movement of money and people is not ruinous in itself, but together they add up to a burdensome and unattractive business environment that will stifle innovation and result in a lessening of London’s influence in the banking and finance industry in Europe and the world."

Took dog to see vet yesterday and had a chat.

Apparently there is a critical shortage of vets because of Brexit.

There were warnings about the lack of vets before the referendum, particularly because British vets don't want to work in abattoirs and it was mainly Spanish vets who worked in them.

lemongrove Wed 11-Aug-21 13:46:58

In any case it has zilch to do with Brexit.

lemongrove Wed 11-Aug-21 13:45:58

Trusting? Moi? ?
Talk about it if it happens ....it’s all could, may, etc.

Alegrias1 Wed 11-Aug-21 13:43:59

I've no intention of lowering any of my expectations of what we can achieve, due to Brexit. I'll be complaining forever and a day, get your ear plugs ready everyone.

And, simultaneously, trying to work out what we can do about it. There is another hope for we Scots but I'll not mention it. wink

Katie59 Wed 11-Aug-21 13:39:42

No point complaining we have left the EU for better or for worse, lots of problems but we will cope, we just have to lower our expectation of what we can achieve. The only hope for change is a Labour government which does not look likely at present.

The failure to align with the EU over standards will allow cosmetic firms to once again use animals.

What new hell is this?

Since the UK banned animal experiments for cosmetics years before the EU did, I doubt very much that we will be going back to any bad old ways.
Where did you get this idea from?

I just love the way you are so trusting, Lemon

Try this:

If we were still in the EU we would be a sovereign nation and could have made an independent decision over the vaccine.

So, no I don’t agree.

Nannagarra Wed 11-Aug-21 12:19:44

WWM2 would you refute that “a benefit from Brexit” has been not having to agree with member states about the delivery of our inoculation programme?

No embarrassment here ?
Good try though!

Why is that?

Whitewavemark2 Wed 11-Aug-21 11:59:10

Permanent!

Have you read the thread, at all? Clearly not. hmm

There are many benefits to Brexit. Just ask Jacob Rees Mogg (£7,000,000) or pro-leave investor and Johnson backer Crispin Odin (£350,000,000).

As Johnny Rotten famously said, 'Ever get the feeling you've been cheated?'

I must admit that I would be terribly embarrassed if I was a leave voter.

Goodness, it's embarrassing enough just to be a citizen of the nation that has done such a stupid thing... grin

MaizieD Wed 11-Aug-21 10:04:22

@GG13

What a ridiculous thing to say, we all had a free vote and we were entitled to use it as we saw fit.

How very irresponsible to vote and then wash your hands of the consequences which are a direct result of your vote.

Hurdles are there but they are not insurmountable, some perspective needed.

I would need the 'perspective' of greatly enhanced benefits arising from having to negotiate those hurdles to become reconciled to leaving the EU.

So, do tell us. What are the benefits?

Whitewavemark2 Wed 11-Aug-21 10:00:21

Wait until October when checks at the ports are due to start on imports!

Alegrias1 Wed 11-Aug-21 09:55:54

As I said on another thread. If someone was to come on and say, S***, that was a bad idea. What can we do now to make it work? I'd understand that.

To keep being told its all teething problems and it will all iron itself out, and its not Brexit it's Covid....well, my patience wears thin.....
