“Recollections may vary”. Harry and Meghan (again - I know!)

This may be a pot shot too far, now they seem to be including the Queen in their self- righteous whingeing.
(Not that I am biased)
Apparently Duke and Duchess of Sussex believe the Queen failed to take “full ownership” of the race allegations made in their interview with Oprah Winfrey, according to the authors of the unauthorised biography Finding Freedom.
A “friend of the couple” (unnamed, of course) has apparently told Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand that the Queen’s lack of action had prevented the Duke and Duchess from moving on from the claims.
The source also suggested that the Queen’s assertion that “recollections may vary” had not gone down well.
(It did however rank IMHO as one of HM’s all-time greatest bons mots )
The Queen has until now been one of the only senior members of the Royal family to escape the Sussexes’ criticism, but this new epilogue to Finding Freedom, published in People magazine in the US, suggests that the Duke and Duchess feel frustrated that the Duke’s grandmother did not follow through with her promise to address their concerns.
It says: “The Queen’s ‘recollections may vary’ comment ‘did not go unnoticed’ by the couple, who a close source said were ‘not surprised’ that full ownership was not taken
Just one question, if this book is “unauthorised”, does it or does it not reflect their views? Or is it an example of letting somebody else put words in their mouths so that they can deny them afterwards if necessary? All these “unnamed friends,” and “close sources” - aye, right.

Grany did the Queen or the law firm announce publicly who was paying ? Link please

Smileless2012 Sat 02-Oct-21 17:37:57

No, Queen the Head of State pays for her son's defence and there wont be many mothers who wouldn't do the same and who wouldn't believe in their son's innocence.

That may be miss placed of course but some of us don't believe in a kangaroo court and would rather wait for the judicial process to come to a decision.

On another issue. it's being suggested that Harry will be naming the 'racist' in the RF to appease the publishers for his $15 million book deal.

Is there nothing he wont do for money; apparently not.

Queen the Head of State pays for her son to escape justice

Anniebach Sat 02-Oct-21 13:22:27

Smileless. why oh why not facts. Only fact in Grany’s post
is Andrew spent a few weeks at Balmoral

Smileless2012 Sat 02-Oct-21 12:45:22

My thoughts too Annie and I think I'd want a more discreet team if I were the Queen. Not sure why her paying PA's defence costs is news worthyconfused

Is anyone surprised?

Then not ‘privately ‘because the Telegraph understands !

‘Mr Brettler is thought to be’

‘Where he is thought to have kept his mother updated ‘

Grany Sat 02-Oct-21 11:32:28

The Queen is privately funding the Duke of York’s legal fight against sex abuse allegations to the tune of millions of pounds, the Telegraph understands.

Prince Andrew, 61, last week expanded his American legal team, hiring Melissa Lerner,a Princeton and Columbia graduate, to work alongside lead counsel Andrew Brettler.
Both work for Lavley Singer, a renowned Los Angeles-based law firm reputed for its ability to make celebrities' legal problems “go away” - and commanding the fees to do so.

Mr Brettler is thought to be charging the Duke around $2,000 an hour, while Ms Lerner’s appointment, their junior staff and his UK-based legal team, led by criminal defence solicitor Gary Bloxsome, have already sent his bills soaring.

Her Majesty, 95, agreed to pay for her son’s defence at the beginning of last year, shortly after his disastrous Newsnight interview, in which he failed to show any empathy for Jeffrey Epstein's victims or regret over their friendship

The Duke returned to Windsor on Thursday after spending the last few weeks at Balmoral, the Queen’s Aberdeenshire estate, where he is thought to have kept his mother updated on the case during private lunches.

He has until October 29 to respond to the lawsuit and the next hearing is scheduled for November 3.

The police are on the case, but will they treat Charles the same as they treat everyone else? (Answer: unlikely).

A SPECIAL team of top cops dubbed the ‘celebrity squad’ as they probe ‘high-profile suspects’ has been assigned Prince Charles's 'cash for honours' case.

Wonder if she’s getting to COP 26 in one of her numerous cars

Probably. Or one of the Royal Flight planes or helicopters, or the Royal Train…..

????. And why not?

Probably not having to use her bus pass though.

Now that Meghan is a Private Person (was she ever anything else?) she no doubt 'borrows' many of her clothes as real celebrities do but forbidden to members of the royal family.
She looks very nice in her borrowed finery but not sure what message she is sending, and actually, don't care.

maddyone Tue 28-Sept-21 09:10:48

It's a pretty island Josianne and we've explored most it, we hire a car.
I don't think I can quite run to Valentino, but I brought a couple of nice sun dresses with me from just a tad lower price range! Do you think celebrities know they're being ripped off for these expensive clothes?
Flying on a private jet sounds nice, but it's Easyjet here I come. Maybe I could try making friends with Elton John for next year.

At least the Queen doesn't go round lecturing people on climate change and then flying back home on a private jet like her grandchildren!

Wonder if she's getting to COP 26 in one of her numerous cars.

Josianne Tue 28-Sept-21 08:11:20

Hope Zakinthos is nice Maddyone. One of those dresses might look ok in the sunshine with flip flops and a big hat.
The one Meghan wore is Valentino.

maddyone Tue 28-Sept-21 08:05:18

Good morning from Zakinthos.
I had mini dresses just like those on the pattern in the late sixties. I made them all myself. They were easy to make. Do you think I could make one for Meghan and she could toss me a few thousand pounds for it?
Any way I'm flying home on Friday by Easyjet.

Keep your fabulous wealth secret and pretend to be just like the plebs

But the Queen doesn’t pretend to be just like ‘us’. She lives in castles and palaces, is adorned with the most fantastic jewellery, has numerous cars, servants, wardrobes of clothes.

Not much different to many famous ‘celebrities’ who through luck or opportunity are hugely wealthy also, and have no discernible talent or skills, just fell on their feet at the right time.

No use envying everyone else, it’s life.

Peasblossom Mon 27-Sept-21 23:05:15

I made a skirt from half a yard of printed cotton.

16 inches long minus the two inches for hem and elastic waistband.

34 inches around minus the seams.

Sigh….

Josianne

Josianne

Your shoes look really tight.

To Callistemon .

I trekked up Snowdon in them in the 1960s!!!

Josianne Mon 27-Sept-21 22:34:59

Fascinating, I've just been looking at vintage wedding dresses in the 60s. You're right, the daisies look like they are added on for a sort of textured look.

Lexisgranny Mon 27-Sept-21 22:23:21

Calendargirl. You are right it does look like a 70s (or possibly late 60s)wedding dress. It would probably been worn with a sort of swimming cap/bonnet made of lots of fabric daisies and tied with ribbon under the chin and white knee high boots.

That pattern is exactly like the “buy material in the morning/make it in the afternoon/wear it in the evening” one that I used time after time in the late 60s. They didn’t take much material, the skirts were so short!

Alegrias1 Mon 27-Sept-21 22:06:56

Calendargirl

But the Queen doesn’t lecture us all about poverty and deprivation Alegrias which is the difference between her and her GDIL.

Ah righty-ho.

Keep your fabulous wealth secret and pretend to be just like the plebs.

I've got it.smile

Feel sorry for all those kids at the school they targeted visited, who appeared to be some sort of forced captive audience and way too old to appreciate that mushy load of pastel tosh about Harry and his bench. Having flicked through it at Waterstones recently, suffice to say Julia Donaldson's got nothing to worry about! Garbage, anyone could cobble together a load of whimsical drivel and say "hey I've written a children's book full of my truth!!!!"
