The next United Kingdom general election is scheduled to be held on Thursday 2 May 2024, in line with the Fixed-term Parliaments Act.

My money, where I a betting person, would be on May, 2022.

I agree with Polarbear2, Johnson will go and there will be a new leader (not sure about shiny new though). I think May 2023, but the Tories will move back towards the centre right ground before that, and there will be major changes in the cabinet.

Gove?

Off to put my head under the pillow and listen to classical music.

If we are heading for a winter of discontent, with food shortages and expensive fuel bills, that will drive the decision too.

It could go either way, though. Will the Tories want to leave Kier to deal with a raddled economy and potential unrest, or will they want to cling to power at all costs?

It might cheer you up to know there is talk that the Tories will bring the University fees down to £7.5K. That may have you clapping in the aisles.

I hope it wouldn't have anybody clapping in the aisles. It would be a con because the important issue is the amount people pay back. £7500 or £9250 would make absolutely no difference for the vast majority of graduates.

The only ones who would benefit are those on very high incomes who do manage to pay it off or those whose parents can pay the amount upfront with no loans.

Not only that, but there is talk of extending the repayment period by five years, which would make a huge difference to people in their fifties, who would have to carry on with repayments until it's written off.

I can only agree growstuff but the votes come from those who don't get it and Johnson et al are very aware of that.

Can’t we have a ballot paper that says “I don’t want any of these”? That would probably be a landslide majority winner grin

Scrawl on your ballot paper. They are counted.

Dinahmo it just goes as a spoiled paper if you scrawl on it. It does not make the point.

The fact that someone has taken the trouble to go to the poling station and scrawls on the ballot paper is indicative that they aren't happy.
