A winter of very expensive heating and little food?

What is happening about this? I must admit I feel worried.

If this is true and will be paid for by those who have lost in-work benefits and are paying higher NI, how on earth will they get through the winter.

I'm a Pensioner and not rich enough to expect them to do anything for me.

Other stores ( other than Tesco) are available! As is tuna, grated cheese ( protein) and leftovers of human food. There are plenty of cheaper cat foods too.
If on a low income, why mollycoddle a cat?

growstuff Tue 21-Sept-21 18:26:02

the worried well No, it wouldn't for me. I pay just under £100 a month for gas and it's been increased to just over £140 a month. That's £40 or approximately £10 a week.

Oh yes? Not in this town, they're not. And, anyway, I have a delivery contract with Tesco and hardly ever go into a shop of any description.

There aren't any human food leftovers in this house - and most of them are veggie, which they won't touch.

Are you kidding? Tuna and cheese are expensive.

So we move from denial to "it doesn't matter". Next ...?

I hope it doesn't get any worse. It is going to be a hard winter for many of us. I think I'm going to tell my children that I'm only doing presents for the GC. I have 4 children, they have 4 partners and six children. Even small presents mount up.

I'm trying to guess the shortage or price rise the panic brigade will predict tomorrow. I do wish my budget was like the economy - as I could just do some quantitative easing!

I eat a lot of lettuce. This is a current screenshot of the first 8 lettuce items on my Tesco website.

That's because they're in my fridge growstuff. I can send you some round?

Very kind! :-)

I grow the stuff in summer, so I haven't had to order any for ages.

Well, milk has already gone up from £1.09 (which is what it was for ages) to £1.15.

Greek yoghurt has gone up from £1 to £1.40.

I'm not in a panic because I'll cope somehow, but I am certainly pi$$ed off.

Sorry I meant it would be double that for me not double for you.

Ah! OK! My misunderstanding.

I honestly don't know how I can use less fuel.

Next growstuff is give your cat cheaper cat food and investigate other stores.
You aren’t the only one on a low income btw hmm

lemongrove Tue 21-Sept-21 18:47:05

Aldi and Lidl are miles cheaper than Tesco.

Aldi and Lidl are miles cheaper than Tesco.

But unfortunately they don't deliver.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 21-Sept-21 18:59:37

They do on some items.

Exactly!

I do occasionally pop into Lidl if I happen to be passing (about once every three months) and I like their nuts and seeds. Most of the food I buy is fresh or frozen (non-processed) and it won't keep for three months.

I know I'm not and never claimed I was. I'm concerned for all the people on a low income. I have investigated many other brands of cat food and ended up throwing most of them away.

No, they don't deliver groceries.

Worth investigating other stores than Tesco ( They aren’t cheap at all) even if it means going into shops.Being double jabbed and going in at quiet times during the week.
Even my local Co-op is better value.

PippaZ Tue 21-Sept-21 19:08:32

Just heard that CO2 is used to cool medicines and nuclear reactors. I wonder if that is why they moved so fast?

Don't have a Co-op. Is Waitrose cheaper?

lemongrove Tue 21-Sept-21 19:12:07

No idea, although they do advertise a basics range.

growstuff Tue 21-Sept-21 19:13:00

I have better things to do with my life than spend half a day on a bus visiting other stores. I really hate shopping and am annoyed that my routine has been changed. It'snot as though we're at war or anything.

In non-tinned goods?

Here’s how the supermarkets compare:

It could be. The Pfizer vaccine needs CO2 to keep it at -70 degrees.
