I have to say I don't think they know any more than we do and a new one needs designing.

However, this page gives two suggestion for the sarcasm emoji - and still gets us no further unless I am missing something. What I do like on that page is the first offering. I know what they say it means but I think its "we're taking over"!

The government have struck a deal for CO2 production to recommence. Didn’t have much choice really.

Well the Government was never going to please everyone regarding the CO2 issue.

They had two choices, keep their fingers crossed that the shortage disappeared, I can just imagine the outrage on GN in that scenario.

Now the Government has come to an agreement with the largest fertiliser facility in the U.K. to restart its production and it’s ^how much I that going to cost the taxpayers^

I wonder if there are shortages in some lines, but not others. I buy hardly any tins or processed food. I rarely eat rice, pasta, bread or anything made with pastry and never eat cake or biscuits. I eat very few root vegetables or "exotic" fruits such as pineapples. The shops could be full of those items for all I know, but I won't buy them.

Incidentally, the other half of this thread is about rising fuel bills. Has nobody else had their standing orders increased?

My deal with Octopus last till next April. I sent the a reading and was asked if I wanted to reduce my direct debit, I declined as I think we use alot in winter due to husband needing to be warm but it was nice to have the offer. I'm sure it will come back to bite me in April if prices keep going up but I guess I will worry about that next year and if I'm building up some credit at least that will help.

Isn't co2 produced from natural fermentation in wine? Just open all your bottles and harvest the gas to cook with. No panic.

DH just came back from the Co-op. He was unable to get the little pink iced buns I like, but he did find mini Danish Pastries.

Does anyone have any comments on what this means for the food supply chain in our area and how the logistics industry is handling it?

I think it means there is a shortage of pink, I back this up by the evidence that my branch of Lidl hasn't had pink iced doughnuts for some weeks. I don't like them so it hasn't been a big issue for me but my husband, well he does like a pink iced doughnut. They have had chocolate doughnuts most days which I prefer but then I do have to put up with the sad face which means I try to eat them in secret.

I've just returned to this thread and haven't the time to read all the posts that I've missed.
For that reason, I have to ask, is that actually a serious question?

I've had various GF and Free From things go missing - none insurmountable although bread can be a problem. This week there was no naked bacon but I'll live.

However, I thought the big problems were yet to come. Those I mentioned were transport problems, as I understand it. The lack of pickers, etc., haven't worked their way through yet, have they? I thought we were seeing the cause but not yet the full effect.

Yes I think we are lucky if we are in a fixed deal at the moment but as I said that might come back to bite us in April as deals might be much higher than they are now. It's a gamble isn't it, I could change now to avoid a problem in April but then if prices calm down I might regret it. Hard to know but for now we will stay where we are.

Would you benefit from a fixed deal for a year? It would give you some security but I suppose it might be dearer than you have now, again it can be a gamble and so hard to know which way to jump. I like to go for the fixed deal as at least I know where I am for the next year or 18 months or whatever.

On a slightly different note we seem to be having problems in Devon with refuse collection due to shortage of drivers. Is that happening elsewhere? It is a nuisance but I am lucky in that the local refuse centre is only a short distance away so I can always manage that but not easy for families with lots to get rid of or people without cars.

No, I wouldn't. I checked and I'm on the best deal and have relatively low usage. In any case, there aren't any new good deals around. Martin Lewis just did an emergency video on this topic.

Yes, you must be confused growstuff as no posters are saying there isn’t a shortage of CO2!
What there is and is agreed on, are what appear to be regional shortages which is down to lack of HGV drivers.
The government has done a deal with a large CO2 producing
Firm, so shortages should be short lived.

This isn't just about me, but all the other people on a low income. A £10 a week increase, which is what I'm facing, is a big deal and it will be for many people.

£10 a week is massive but a 40% increase would be more like double that. I dread to think what might happen to ours in April. We use alot of gas/electric as my husband is disabled so lots of laundry and he needs the house to be hot. Not sure how I can reduce the amount we use.

I'm noticing shopping is more expensive as well so it is getting worrying.

They don't have any of the cheapest sardines either.
