Petrol queues reported now on BBC news

Just watching the news showing people queuing for petrol. Apparently ‘the supply chain is under intense pressure”. BP is prioritising motorways and major routes. Deliveries are unpredictable and the army may be involved.

More talk about changing visa regs temporarily.

Urmstongran I honestly don't know where your claims come from.

I have only ever voted Labour once in my life, but I don't feel that Labour "hates" me because they've not had my vote. You live in a strange world if you think most political parties (apart from the extremists) hate anybody.

You seem to have fallen down some very big rabbit hole of myths.

It took my friend 6 weeks to get her own office chair ( from her own office in the council building) by which time she was in agony.
We offered to get it for her but: computer says NO!!!
It had to be a council worker removing the chair.
So they had a senior housing officer who couldn’t do her job properly for 6 weeks and longer because of jobsworth.

And this senior housing officer couldn't afford an office chair until one arrived? Couldn't she have bought one with the money she was saving from commuting? Pull the other one!

I am all for working from home where it is suitable for both employers and employees.

I am not for people being coerced into trying to work from home in inadequate circumstances which then impacts on family life and the mental health of the employees.

I absolutely agree. It doesn’t work for everyone but I didn’t like how Urmstingran said people weren’t working from home they were “off work”.

A bit like when she said the Labour Party hate Britain …..

That poster doesn't always use vocabulary accurately or appropriately, but a phrase was used in a red top, so it was handy.

Alegrias1 Wed 29-Sept-21 06:05:08

I said ‘Labour hates Britain’ because they hate the majority in Britain as they are the ones who don’t vote for them (most people) and their nonsense.

Well most people in Britain don't vote for Tories and their nonsense either. So do the Tories hate Britain? Oh, and the Lib Dems. Seething with hate, they are ?

What absolutely dangerous, divisive rubbish.

I thought this thread was about petrol queues?
Wonder why there are no petrol queues in France, Spain, Ireland etc?

travelsafar Wed 29-Sept-21 09:03:54

I do wonder if the government had a huge reserve of fuel that it needed to get rid of to make way for the new E10 fuel. Something that popped into my head yesterday. I may be totally wrong... but here goes. Due to lockdown any reserves were not being used as people not travelling. When i googled about 'use by dates' for petrol it has roughly 6months then something happens to it and it can turn slimy apparently. Creating a panic situation has probably used up most of the reserves and now fresh E10 fuel can be ordered and delivered to petrol stations meaning we are all being more enviromentally friendly and paying more for our fuel.

Kali2 Wed 29-Sept-21 09:12:40

wow- interesting. Is there someone with close ties to the trade who could look into this?

Kali2 Wed 29-Sept-21 09:13:50

Would you mind if I share your thoughts anonymously and ask a few friends?

growstuff your post of 20.46.16 was extremely insulting, whether it was directed to me or Urmstongran.

I am beginning to notice that when posters (any) resort to insulting the poster as opposed to discussing the post it is usually a sign of not having anything constructive to add.

It was true though.

I knew exactly who/what growstuff meant.

Make inflammatory and inaccurate statements day after day, and its going to get pointed out.

THERE IS NO FUEL ANYWHERE
I am actually going to cry. I did what the government told me to do and now none of us have any bloody FUEL angry

GrannyGravy13 Wed 29-Sept-21 09:37:01

Alegrias1 it was not clear to whom growstuff was intending her remarks for though?

Alegrias1 Wed 29-Sept-21 09:38:14

I thought it was very clear indeed GG13.

But no more comments on this from me.

Oh Lucca My son works from home, my nephew works from home, so are they “off work”. Honestly I’ve heard it all now.

That’s just disingenuous!

Our daughter’s partner works from home (since April last year). He’s a graphic designer. Some jobs can be done from home (natch). But the DVLA are working from home in Wales, some are on strike and licences are not being issued.

Can you spot the difference here?

Yes. The difference, if what you say is true, is that that some are on strike. It's nothing to do with where employees are working. Those who are working are working from wherever they are. It could be in the office or at home from the information you have given. Unless you have missed some important fact, your attack on home working is irrelevant in this instance.

Callistemon Wed 29-Sept-21 09:44:14

Well, the government won't have the reserve of fuel but they will be collecting the huge amount of tax charged on it.

JaneJudge Wed 29-Sept-21 09:50:43

Actually that might make sense as I noticed diesel 'sold out' first and there was only unleaded left yesterday.

Callistemon Wed 29-Sept-21 09:51:11

We no longer have to hold the reserves that we did under EU rules.
2019:
The decision by the government to cut the size of the reserve follows lobbying by UK refiners and large fuel retailers, which fund the emergency stockpiles and will face lower costs as a result.

Energy analysts said that reducing the amount of oil held in emergency reserves would leave the country more vulnerable to a prolonged supply disruption, potentially creating shortages of certain fuel-types where the country is reliant on imports, such as diesel.

I've just driven past 4 garages here in Glasgow and it looks like business as usual. Is this "crisis" a regional thing?

I think it must be Esspee

Pretty sure it is.

South Manchester here and all is quiet

It was never about you, GG13. We know that you post sensibly and thoughtfully, even if we don't agree with what you say. (I 'think' I can speak for other posters besides myself here)

But, as Alegrias points out, infantile nonsense will be called out. It's a shame that your post got mixed up with it. The 'quote' facility isn't always very helpful.

Thanks for that, Callistemon.

Is there no end to the idiotic decisions made by this government?

(I do wish I could afford to subscribe to the FT; they do some excellent reporting grin )

I agree. Sorry to be rude by UG does sometimes post inflammatory statements and then when called out, retracts saying, that’s not what I meant,
