Day after day there are articles like this in the worlds press.

Yes, thank you Zoejory.

It is the same one we spoke about last night. I'll just point out then for visgirl that the poll was almost wholly carried out before the end of the Labour Conference smile

I'm not on here that often so how did you all manage to disprove it?

Polls are often wrong. We've seen that many times.

No doubt next week Labour will be leading.

However I can't see how you can disprove it.

If we carry that quote on is Johnson the "sun of York"?
"Now is the winter of our discontent made glorious summer by this sun of York"
Bet he'd love to be. Maybe it's all a devious plan to show he can sort things (but I think it's more likely a massive cock up)

He is an inadequate fool. I don't think Johnson is likely to be welcomed in York.

York, beautiful city that it is, has a doughnut population. The outer ring, as in many cities, probably votes Conservative because Tories have always made the inequality go in their direction. The inner "hole" are people who live from week to week on uncertain contracts and probably don't think Johnson is doing much for them.

As Yorkshire is as big a Scotland (I think that must be in population) I am all for our independence if Johnson continues to diminish the democracy of our country.

why aren't you charged delivery?

It’s usually £10 for the Christmas slot, but they say it’s free this year for regular customers.

did it say free when you booked it? It said 9.99 on my offered slots. I have a smart pass and use them weekly!

Really can’t think it will be any worse than the last one, with Unions bringing the country to its knees, Jim Callaghan trying to cap pay rises to bring the 26%inflation rate down. Yes we are still contending with covid, but the horrendous 14 weeks of bodies not being buried, tons of rubbish lining the streets etc, deliveries not being made, wonder if Labour supporters were worried about deaths then. The foreign press, well really not interested in what they say, they’re in it to sell papers, think the ordinary man in their streets will be having their own problems, and not really worrying about ours.

And to top it all off the latest Yougov poll has given the Tories an 8 point lead!

And after the Labour Party conference as well, that speaks volumes. Wonder what it will be like after their conference?

Gonna need a link to that poll.

Or is it the same one we disproved on GN last night?

I’m hoping there will be no turkeys available.....then we can have beef or ham.
Have got my Ocado Christmas slot ( smug mode) and no delivery charge, yippee.

I drive past a big costco twice a day and it has been generally quiet for months. Last week they were queuing to get on and off and not for petrol either

JaneJudge Sat 02-Oct-21 17:19:28

Pippaz, the lactose free things started the week before the petrol chaos! I could only get some off my milkman, it had sold out everywhere, in shops and online deliveries. The only place I found some (not off the milkman) was in a big iceland food warehouse (if that helps)

Kate1949 Sat 02-Oct-21 17:18:51

We've had trouble getting lactose free milk too Pippa. Asda had some yesterday.

Zoejory Sat 02-Oct-21 17:18:17

Fear not, PippaZ!

You can buy it online. Have it delivered. Loads of different brands available

And no Christmas Ocado slots left here, boooo. Disaster! sad.

They are releasing them in stages. You'll get another go...

PippaZ Sat 02-Oct-21 17:15:52

Aveline

Doomed. We're all doomed. Again!

You may joke but some of us may be.

I have just been out to get some lactose free milk and there was none in my usual, short drive. supermarket. Using more fuel I went to another; the was still none. The third one had some but I have to say thisrather longer trip than I intended trip sent a shudder through me with thoughts of the coming winter. What if I can't get the fuel to go round all the supermarkets? I will not die (yet) if I don't have it but I really don't know what I will do to stop myself being very ill if my specialist foods are unavailable.

So joke away Aveline. Be it foods, fuel or heating, some people will die if it isn't sorted out.

Thanks for thinking of us (not).

lemongrove Sat 02-Oct-21 17:11:57

Ah! From The Guardian......that explains it.?
As Aveline says, alarmist headlines sell papers.Next week’s fish and chip paper ( or worse!)

Whitewavemark2 Sat 02-Oct-21 17:08:47

“But never mind cancer deaths or the drop in life expectation, just look at the wage growth”

Josianne Sat 02-Oct-21 17:03:55

I think all countries have their different problems.
My family in New Zealand say they feel like hermits and despite feeling smug initially are now finding the situation onerous.

Mollygo Sat 02-Oct-21 16:59:43

It is awful, but as someone posted up thread, bad news sells papers. Yet my friends around the world say it isn’t all roses where they are. Two US friends say they have heard more about Britain since Covid because it hides the situation where they are. One is desperate not to be ill as she can’t afford more insurance.

Smileless2012 Sat 02-Oct-21 16:57:30

Looks that way Avelinehmm

Aveline Sat 02-Oct-21 16:51:52

Josianne Sat 02-Oct-21 16:50:52

Just chuck the whole array on the table!
