Misogyny

If we think the things Johnson says about women are shocking we're going to be pretty appalled when we read about the ways he has treated women in his private life!

Johnson's refusal to make misogyny a hate crime reminded me of Queen Victoria thinking lesbianism wasn't real.
If I don't see it it doesn't exist.

The reason they don't see it is that they were raised and live in a world where misogyny is endemic and has benefitted them.

There is no need to be rude! I had to go out to provide childcare so ran out of time.

I don’t think it’s too much to ask that those who have had the privilege of going to elite universities should understand the meaning of words that they use.

Extremely rude, seeing that you corrected that error in the very next post.

I’ll admit I wasn’t aware of the word misandry until I read it on here some months ago, I’m very aware of the actuality, similarly misogyny.
I was quite disappointed in myself for not knowing the word as I considered myself pretty aware and rounded, but useful to know, I didn’t go to university.

You mean the scientists, medical professions, engineers, yes all those privileged people. Or is it just some politicians you take aim at.

Strange, I know people in all of those categories and none of them went to elite institutions. AND they all managed to vote for Labour in the last election.

Strikes me, GG13, that the SOLE reason for those educational establishments is to perpetuate unearned privilege.

Dominic Raab criticised equalities chiefs for ignoring “flagrant discrimination” against male workers, claiming that men were now getting a “raw deal” in many areas of life.

The 36-year-old MP for Esher and Walton made his remarks in an article on the Government’s plan to extend paternity leave for new fathers, saying that this was an area in which the last, Labour government had let men down.

He suggested that, like the feminists who burned their bras in the 1970s, men should start “burning their briefs” to draw attention to discrimination against men.

In an article for the PoliticsHome website, he called for more family-friendly policies rather than those to promote female workers, saying: "While we have some of the toughest anti-discrimination laws in the world, we are blind to some of the most flagrant discrimination – against men.

"From the cradle to the grave, men are getting a raw deal. Men work longer hours, die earlier, but retire later than women.

I think it's even worse. It's not that he doesnt understand the word it's that his automatic reaction to the word is but what about the men.

Either the subject of misogyny didn't come up once or Mr Raab wasn't listening.

If you read some of his articles about how men get a raw deal from the cradle to the grave you can understand how he might be tone deaf any time anyone mentions the misogyny word.

Johnson is the arch-charlatan. People like Raab are the second rate followers.

It's obvious that Dominic is where he is because our PM needed someone thicker and more inclined to gaffes than himself in cabinet. He couldn't have another Rishi behind him could he?

Jekaterina Drozdovica writing, just over two years ago, in a piece entitled Four of Raab’s Worst Blunders (of course, he has made more since).

He “hadn’t quite understood” how much trade went through Dover.

Talking about future trade with the EU at a technology conference in 2018 Raab said: “I hadn’t quite understood the full extent of this, but if you look at the UK and if you look at how we trade in goods, we are particularly reliant on the Dover-Calais crossing.”

Dover is the key route for the UK trade to reach the continental Europe. In 2017 the port handled 2.9 million lorries amounting to 17% of the UK trade in goods.

If Raab and his boss manage to engineer their crash-out Brexit, it will be interesting to see what happens to all those lorries.

insults are just insults.
I have been insulted a lot on Gransnet for example but not because I have a vagina

In his defence (and against my negative feelings about this man) he said "misogyny and insults" though obviously these two are not at all the same!
