We are not talking about Universal Suffrage, Female Emancipation, Abolition of Slavery - how dare these people stop care workers and health professionals going about their essential business, lorry drivers delivering essential goods and joe public who might like to get back to his home this side of midnight ?????
( I liked the man who “serenaded” them with his bagpipes - only I happen to like the pipes)

MissAdventure Fri 29-Oct-21 11:26:16

Bah! Rile.

Lilyflower Fri 29-Oct-21 11:27:28

“We are not talking about Universal Suffrage, Female Emancipation, Abolition of Slavery ...”

Just what I thought. What an equivocal cause for which to disrupt people’s lives and threaten health. Whatever next? Shut down a power station until people lag their pipes or bleed their radiators?

I feel sorry for the police who have to put up with every day. Not reacting is so difficult.

Griselda Fri 29-Oct-21 11:40:33

I think the police should leave them where they are. It wouldn't take too long before they were begging for help to be realeased - especially the older ladies.

Alioop Fri 29-Oct-21 11:52:54

Eejits the lot of them. We know their cause, we all listen to the different programmes on things that need to change in the world. They don't need to glue their idiotic asses to the ground and stop people going to work to feed their families, take people to hospital for treatment and kids to school for an education. Fools have nothing better to do.

Some of you think that recycling a few yoghurt pots is all that needs doing. You are obviously on the side of this interviewer who thinks you can grow concrete and tried to undermine the young protester who has a job as a carpenter.
www.google.co.uk/amp/s/metro.co.uk/2021/10/26/presenter-stops-insulate-britain-interview-after-claiming-you-can-grow-concrete-15488485/amp/

Please credit us that do a bit of recycling´ with more commonsense than you think. How patronising and downright superior you sound.

I sooo agree with you - how patronising!!! I'm so fed up with being preached to by these 'holier than thou" protestors

soldiersailor Fri 29-Oct-21 12:02:18

I'm thinking about making a liberal distribution of stink bombs if they should start protesting near me.

bear1 Fri 29-Oct-21 12:05:26

noticed in the last lot sitting in the road that a lot of them were working age so were they supposed to be working from home or took a day sick or even on unemployment benefits if so then why were they not where they were supposed to be instead of holding up those who needed to get to work or kids to school or delivering goods

Pippa22 Fri 29-Oct-21 12:06:21

I think our police are shown to be ineffective and useless. I hate seeing them in this position of such weakness. They are just standing watching these idiots disrupting our day to day life and there are no consequences. Why are the police there at all ? These protesters don’t seem to have a clear idea of what they are trying to achieve, having seen some interviews they do not appear to be articulate. How about concentrating their attention on some of the really polluting countries, China perhaps ? Every day when I see these protesters I hope some strong, angry motorists will get together and drag the mob out of the road, it hasn’t really happened yet but I keep hoping it will !

MerylStreep Fri 29-Oct-21 12:14:35

SoldiaSailor
Give me a shout when your set up. I’m not far from the Dartford crossing.
Don’t be surprised anyone if you see that a pensioner has been arrested for assault. That will be me ?

Cambia Fri 29-Oct-21 12:16:23

My DH suggests we cut them from the tarmac but leave it attached for them to remove! Sounds like a plan. Not so easy going about your day with a lump of tarmac glued to your hands!

Jess20 Fri 29-Oct-21 12:17:09

The sad thing is the Insulate Britain protestors are quite correct in wanting to reduce carbon emissions by insulating domestic property properly and loads of property needs this done. The disruption they are causing is nothing compared with what's likely to happen if we don't get to grips with climate change. I'd also be furious to be stopped going to work, or going home to collect my kids from nursery etc etc and think there may be better ways to do this but actually this seems to be a very effective way of raising the profile of the issues. The government is also seeking to reduce our rights to demonstrate and protest, so we need to be more supportive of these brave souls before we all lose our rights to free speech and being heard.

lizzypopbottle Fri 29-Oct-21 12:17:50

What irritates me is the hypocrisy. These people make thorough nuisances of themselves and it turns out their houses are not insulated and they fly thousands of miles every year. They stomp off from TV interviews when challenged about it. They exhort us all to be vegan while they condone the destruction of rain forests to grow their soya and avocados for their toast. Put your own house in order and only then glue your face to the road!

MissAdventure Fri 29-Oct-21 12:18:10

Brave?!
Not my idea of courage.

MerylStreep Fri 29-Oct-21 12:19:54

Some posters have mentioned they go to Glasgow to demonstrate. They wouldn’t get within 10 miles of Glasgow.
After all, the great and the good have to be protected.
Meanwhile, the great unwashed are being shafted trying to do a days work.?

HurdyGurdy Fri 29-Oct-21 12:26:57

I believe the quickest way to disperse these protestors is not with bagpipes, but to get a load of local schoolchildren to come down and endlessly play Three Blind Mice on their recorders, to entertain (not harass) them whilst they are protesting.

Namsnanny Fri 29-Oct-21 12:30:21

8.27 Monica I completely agree with every word in your post.

Blondiescot Fri 29-Oct-21 12:31:19

Brave? Nothing brave about them whatsoever...

MissAdventure Fri 29-Oct-21 12:32:33

Agreed!

Namsnanny Fri 29-Oct-21 12:33:47

HurdyGurdy ... ??
the memory of my children's playing has been indelibly printed on my brain!

Namsnanny Fri 29-Oct-21 12:43:40

'Brave souls', no less!
I'm not sure what they have risked personally.
Especially as the example in their own lives of not insulating, and driving unnecessary miles around Europe (in the middle of a pandemic, possibly spreading it) in a smokey desiel car, seems to prove they care nothing for the cause they purport to believe in.

Namsnanny Fri 29-Oct-21 12:45:01

12.19 MerylStreep ... very true.

nahsma Fri 29-Oct-21 12:46:59

lizzypopbottle Sources please? Other than that, more generally, which bit of climate change are people not understanding? Insulation means reduced fuel use, which may help reduce global warming. I'm aware that the authoritarian faction want protests to be curbed, but if we can't disrupt we'll change nothing. Suffragettes won us the vote by protest, not writing polite letters or inviting MPs round for tea and cake. Do you really want your grandchildren and great-grandchildren to live/die in the of misery that desertification brings? I don't.

Zoejory Fri 29-Oct-21 12:47:11

There is no bravery in stupidity

nahsma Fri 29-Oct-21 12:48:05

Namsnanny Again, sources please?
