G20 meeting in Rome this weekend

So all the World leaders are meeting in Rome this weekend ahead of meeting in Glasgow next week for the COP meeting and they have the audacity to lecture us on climate change, it isn't only the leaders it is all the press & security from every country . I bet large news corporation like Sky and BBC all have a multitude of people out there and different ones in Glasgow. They make us feel guilty for taking one holiday a year yet they fly around the world going from one pointless meeting to the next.

Do you have a link, which shows the purpose of the meeting ? I can only find "The Ministers of Economy and Finance traditionally also take part in the event."
and "The three key words of the G20 – People, Planet, Prosperity – are flanked by other three key words of the Italian design: Innovation, Responsibility, Creativity. The exhibition presents some of the best Italian design objects of recent years, between technology and innovation"
There is no mention of it being an alternative climate meeting. www.g20.org/rome-summit.html

This refers directly to intent prior to the COP meeting.

They are to be discussing a lot of things. On the G20's own website (https://www.g20.org/italian-g20-presidency/priorities.html) it says "the 2021 G20, under Italian Presidency, will focus on three broad, interconnected pillars of action: People, Planet, Prosperity.

Within these pillars, we are taking the lead in ensuring a swift international response to the pandemic – able to provide equitable, worldwide access to diagnostics, therapeutics and vaccines – while building up resilience to future health-related shocks.

We are also looking beyond the crisis, towards ensuring a rapid recovery that addresses people’s needs. This implies a focus on reducing inequalities, on women’s empowerment, on the younger generations and on protecting the most vulnerable. It means promoting the creation of new jobs, social protection and food security.

The G20 is also intent on paving the way to rebuilding differently in the aftermath of the crisis. More efficiently, through a better use of renewable energies and with a firm commitment to protecting our climate and our common environment."

62Granny seems to think it is "going from one pointless meeting to the next." but international meetings in person about international problems are never pointless - discussing things directly and hammering out different opinions face-to-face beats emails and texts.

I have not a holiday for a lot more than two years ( and I would not have been flying anywhere if I had done) but if they can agree to a common policy on combatting climate change and then make sure their citizens stick to it so that it actually works I don't grudge them flying to meet up to discuss it.

I suppose we’ve all different opinions on these matters.

Hope that’s still allowed.

Global agreement on taxation for large corporations is good news though

Did anyone watch the footage? The adults were all kept waiting for our idiot to eventually turn up with “look at me” written all over him.

Beyond embarrassing.

Johnson b………g about at the photo shoot.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 31-Oct-21 10:07:51

Spot the deliberate mistake!,

I posted the wrong photo. The one above is someone mimicking Johnson’s behaviour at the photo shoot. I should have posted the actual one.

Theoretically these meetings of world leaders are a good thing. Practically many leaders agree to this, that, or the other and then completely ignore what they’ve agreed to when they get home. Also some world leaders don’t attend, so clearly they’re not giving anything that is discussed high priority.

I did notice that Bozzer was looking overweight and a bit breathless at times.

How far gone in her pregnancy is Carrie? I saw a press photo of her yesterday purportedly visiting the Coliseum with the other G20 WAGs and she didn't look pregnant at all. Maybe it was just the camera angle...

I think when she announced the pregnancy she said the baby was due in December, so she must be 7 months at least.
Do you meant the photo in the red jacket and floral skirt? I think red really suits her, and she stood out as being young and fresh.

I am not holding my breath hat they might all be about to save the planet. sad

Nor me. I am sure that they simply aren’t up to it.

Goodness knows what is going to happen to the world.

Her choice of footwear wasn't too daft compared with some other pregnant mums! Low heels. But then I do remember The Coliseum terrain being very uneven.

What I was querying is 'where is the bump?'

Oh, I thought your question was clearly regarding gestation?

Josianne Sun 31-Oct-21 15:37:09

Well here's a bigger bump, though once again carefully disguised by the choice of colour. Sensible ankle boots on The Spanish Steps too.

lemongrove Sun 31-Oct-21 16:11:28

Carrie always looks attractive and stylish, and wears whatever suits the occasion.

I don’t think the meeting in Rome is at all pointless, as key decisions are taken at G20’s.
Quite different from constantly flying around the globe just to sit on a beach.

JenniferEccles Sun 31-Oct-21 22:33:50

I love the red coat and dress outfit and it certainly disguised the pregnancy bump.

A beautiful, stylish outfit.

Just unbelievable that this thread turned into discussing Mrs Johnson's fashion style.

In the meantime, her husband is pictured fast asleep, next to 95 year old David Attenborough, and the only one not wearing a mask.

Must have been a riveting speech as there are many pictures of Joe Biden sleeping also.
