What do we think?
Tomorrow he has to put up or shut up I think.

If lorries can be stopped from making progress due to undeclared ham in their sandwiches, I can't help thinking that the UK is justified in not giving licenses to fish, to fishermen who can't provide evidence that they have fished in the relevant waters.

What’s ‘jog on’ in French?

Let’s face it the Brexit debacle has given the green light to anti-anyone- foreign xenophobes to voice their opinion of millions of people as in “ the French”, “the Germans”, “the Italians” etc as if everyone of a certain nationality can be lumped together.

Well to be fair and honest. Many of you on here clump all British and our nation in the same way, with disdain and ridicule. If it comes to the crunch I will back my country and it’s people over any foreign President, French, German whatever.

What are you talking about? Most of us on here are British.

I'm afraid though, that I don't subscribe to 'My country right or wrong'.

I don't like my country picking silly fights with its neighbours.

You are becoming truly hilarious here, to put it politely.

Passez votre chemin? Allez vous faire fout*e? Au c*l la balayette?

If the USA and the whole of Europe decide to make life difficult for a small island that is ridiculously posturing in thin air - at this stage I think they will. Basta cosi.

How about the other part if my post?

Are you in favour of the no limits demands just for French vessels or for everyone!

I ignored that because, as far as I'm aware, the present foolish dispute has nothing to do with quotas.

It's what you voted for, Ug. Third party rules for third party countries.

I apologise Lucca. You’re right. That last comment was uncalled for.
Genuinely sorry.

Thank you for that.

Au c*l la balayette?
A new one for me Kali2. Sounds rude!

Kali2 Mon 01-Nov-21 18:07:06

LOL, it is. One of my very posh Parisian student taught me this one - his dad used it a lot, he said, Head Surgeon at La Salpétrière, no less.

Urmstongran Mon 01-Nov-21 18:09:16

? Lucca.
Personal insults are wrong. I was feeling ‘got at’.
Silly really.

Lucca Mon 01-Nov-21 18:10:33

???? No, many on here regard the current government that way not the British people

We’ll agree to disagree.

Lucca Mon 01-Nov-21 18:14:18

Ok but what did you mean by “all British and our nation”?

Genuinely bemused. I’m pretty sure if you looked the various threads you’d not find many posts saying “the British are rubbish” or similar.

Absolutely, 100%. This has been explained many many times.

Even if we're in the wrong?

I ignored that because, as far as I'm aware, the present foolish dispute has nothing to do with quotas.

The majority of those blockading the port had been issued with licences and were protesting against the conditions of those licences.

One example is fisherman who fished for lobster and mussels who was protesting that his catch had been reduced to mussels only. Jersey fishermen had also had their lobster catch reduced or removed as stocks are dangerously low.

The numbers of fishing boats also need to reduced. The area is seriously over-fished and current levels of fishing are not sustainable.

So, is Jersey to be allowed to try to preserve its marine health or are French fishermen to have their “rights” reinstated, even though Jersey fishermen will not.

Or reinstate the previous levels for all knowing it will take the already precarious seas around Jersey to the point of no return.

Do you really think you are supporting the right cause?

Whitewavemark2 Mon 01-Nov-21 21:01:13

I see that the U.K. has been quietly giving out over 100 fishing licences since this nonsense flared up.

Seems we won’t be going to war with France after all.

Kali2 Mon 01-Nov-21 21:13:25

Some on GN will be terribly disappointed, probably.

Peasblossom Mon 01-Nov-21 21:23:10

It’s Jersey that issues the licences for their waters, not the UK.

The threat to cut off all power didn’t really leave them with much choice. Hospital, schools, homes.

Kali2 Mon 01-Nov-21 21:33:28

If you are going to rattle sabres, make sure you don't sell them all your essential utilities and services first!

MerylStreep Mon 01-Nov-21 21:36:23

I see Macron has backed down.

Kali2 Mon 01-Nov-21 21:40:16

What silly language.

MerylStreep Mon 01-Nov-21 21:42:57

Not my words.

What is? "Sabre rattling" do you mean?

MerylStreep Mon 01-Nov-21 21:44:31

I know it’s not what some wished to see, but hey, that’s politics for you.
