Greta Thunberg is a Pain in the proverbial

Is it just me or is she increasingly coming across as a brat having a permanent tantrum.? She has no positive ideas, merely demands to stop doing just about everything while the media hangs on her every intemperate word? Blah blah blah…..

old ... add odd if you wish.

Although why they were interested in the contents of her handbag I have no idea.

Alegrias1 Sun 07-Nov-21 14:56:12

I stand corrected Casdon smile

There were posters on here a couple of days ago lauding her for taking a cheap scheduled flight back from COP. Just goes to show, you can't believe everything you read!

JaneJudge Sun 07-Nov-21 14:56:15

The description of what was in her handbag was rubbish as well! Just a laptop. I can quite clearly see a book, some werthers original, a couple of tampons, loads of receipts and some rolled up toilet paper!

I very much doubt Greta is reading this thread - but I am, & I’ve just been called a deaf, stupid, ‘old biddy’ - an extremely ageist derogatory term.
But you carry on sticking up for your mates no matter how abusive they are.

Thanks but I’m not sticking up for my mates as you rather childishly put it I’m objecting to the unpleasant intolerant narrow minded attacks on Greta Thunberg.

Sadly as evinced here, Greta Thunberg is extremely unlikeable to so many people, which is not helping her worthwhile cause. It has nothing do do with her sex, Professor Richard Dawkins has the same problem. Her condition obviously is playing a part in this.
It may sound superficial, but anger tempered with likeability would be more successful.

So she should talk calmly and smile more?

I think anybody who thinks the Queen's contribution to the debate is anything other than ceremonial is deluded.

I'm deluded.

So just because someone doesn’t read something, it’s ok to be cruel?

Casdon Sun 07-Nov-21 16:19:10

I don’t know where people have got the impression that Greta is ‘extremely unlikeable’ from? The fact that many gransnetters, and establishment figures appear to find her so does not mean that’s the general public opinion of her. I can’t find any evidence that suggests this view is prevalent, in fact she engenders huge support and action.

You both seem to forget everyones opinion counts, not just yours.
If i said/wrote something out of order it would have been deleted by GNHQ`rs.

The biggest problem in my view is the ever growing population using ever diminishing natural resources. Apart from Sir David Attenborough I haven’t heard a single representative brave enough to acknowledge this.

Yes, it is something that needs to be addressed urgently.

Free contraception should be accessible to all women - yes, I know men should play their part too but in some many areas of the world they may not. I'm sure many women in 3rd World countries despair at the thought of bringing another child into the world when they can't even afford to feed the ones they have already.

A family in Afghanistan were featured on the news recently- they have sold their baby girl to a man they don't know in order to feed their other children; she will be taken from her mother as soon as she can walk.
The buyer, who was an unnamed man, claimed he wanted to raise the girl to marry his son, but there is no guarantee of his intentions

As well as helping those desperate women, controlling the population should have benefits for the environment without so many increasing demands on the world's resources.

Scones Sun 07-Nov-21 16:28:35

Here's someone who has been brave enough to talk about this.
Chris Packham.

Good old Chris.
He's my favourite, but quite unpopular on here.

Calistemon Sun 07-Nov-21 16:31:35

Yes, I know Boshienaro, Indonesia etc are destroying rain forests just as we did centuries ago, but we all have to start somewhere and I see no reason to disparage those who are planting trees or funding the re-greening of the planet, even letting gardens go wild.

grannypiper Sun 07-Nov-21 16:32:56

I heard her described as Greta Garbage today hmm

Yammy Sun 07-Nov-21 16:34:29

Who knows what Greta Thurnberg is really like? She might be like a lot of other teenagers a pain in what she was singing about yesterday to her parents. We can comment on what she proposes but not on her personally.
Also we should not be rude to people we do not agree with. What is a debate but an exchange of views not a platform for a slanging match and name calling, come on Gransneters we are not in the playground now,or we give a lot of young people the wrong view of us if that is how we conduct ourselves.

Scones Sun 07-Nov-21 17:04:13

All the criticism of Greta on this thread has been personal. We have described her as: -

A smug opinionated spoilt brat, who reminds me of an aggressive cabbage patch doll.
A brat.
A slip of a girl.
Opinionated.
Shrill.
Unpopular because she is always angry.
A pain in the proverbial.
Disturbed.
Unhappy.
Bloody irritating.

Apparently this is ok because it is just 'opinion' and only two of the posts constituted actual 'hate'. I don't think that's ok.

I haven't found one criticism of her that was based on something she was actually doing wrong - some harm she is causing. All just entirely personal.

Based on evidence here I reckon some posters would have criticised Emily Davison for spoiling a good day out at the races.

Why do we speak about other people like this? What is wrong with us that we believe we are entitled to speak like this about another human being? She is a young woman who we, as the older generation should be encouraging and acting as role model for. On the basis of this thread I feel pretty much ashamed of myself for spending time with some of you folks.

Kali2 Sun 07-Nov-21 17:17:05

indeen, and then some who have been dishing it out like this object to being called 'old biddy'.

You’re taking this thread way too seriously.
I’d have forgotten it by tomorrow, as would most of us. smile

Devorgilla Sun 07-Nov-21 17:38:30

It's not Greta I find 'a pain in the proverbial' but the ladies in red who seem to do nothing but weave through the demonstration.

Yes, and that’s the problem

Scones Sun 07-Nov-21 17:53:14

You see Kandinsky, I and many others do take things seriously and so to know some people are so superficial, spiteful and careless about the important things, the things that matter like kindness, decency, the environment and leaving a good legacy rather than a trail of ugliness is pretty hard to stomach.

And this is exactly what she is saying. I do accept the 'shove it up their **' comment was not very clever or helpful-

but listen to the essence and come back and say she is a 'brat'. Yes, for decades people have made promises and then forgot by the next day- and that is the whole point!
