Is it just me or is she increasingly coming across as a brat having a permanent tantrum.? She has no positive ideas, merely demands to stop doing just about everything while the media hangs on her every intemperate word? Blah blah blah…..

I expected nothing else from you both Lucca/BlueBelle.

We have had 26 years of world leaders promising action and very little has happened. Australia, one of the world's largest supplier of fossil fuels also burns coal in most of its power stations. It is not showing signs of making any changes. It has also resisted attempts to get it to join the countries pledging net zero emissions by 2050.

With attitudes like those of Australia, what chance is there for the countries of the world to clean up their act? We can't talk - Johnson has given the go ahead for a new coal field and may give the go ahead to the Cambo oil field off Shetland.
Finally, how long is it going to take to clean up the damage caused to our coastal waters and rivers after the sewage dumping?

I don't think she is a popular young women , probably because she looks angry all the time, but she has definitely got everyone talking about climate change and everyone knows her name.
On the other hand there were some very well spoken young people being interviewed on the news at lunch time (Sky) who put their point across very eloquently.

Maybe someone should tell her to smile more.

Here's Greta 'not being popular because she looks angry all the time'. She's the tiny dot (under the galleries sign with the yellow hood up) being followed through Bristol by tens of thousands of people...all ages, but mostly young people. She'd just spoken to them from a podium and inspired and motivated about 15 thousand people who were there just to see her.

We don't have to like Greta. She is not for us.

She's for young people who will have to live in this world and bring their own children into this world when we are all dead and long gone.

Hetty58 Sat 06-Nov-21 17:54:05

Well, she's touched a nerve or two, hasn't she? Exactly what's needed with so many pompous climate deniers about. We're really running out of time.

I'm just amazed at the ignorance (people can't really be that thick, can they?) but not surprised by the nasty remarks. It's that same old guilt thing, again, just like the vegan hatred.

rafichagran Sat 06-Nov-21 17:53:28

The cabbage patch doll remark was unnecessary as well, very personal, how would you like your grandchildren spoken of I'm that way.

The vitriol from some is truly shocking.

It really isn’t surprising though, it’s shocking how people hate a strong girl. Ifa message isn’t delivered the way they like, they throw out the whole girl

Litterpicker Sat 06-Nov-21 17:52:21

I am so saddened by some of these comments.

My experience is very much like that of Grammarretto. I have always tried to be green, from the time when I was 19 or 20 and stopped using a spray deodorant because of the damage to the ozone layer. Now we know so much more now about how our lifestyle damages the earth and its ability to repair itself. I wish I had tried harder and fought more.

Please don’t judge Greta Thunberg or anyone else until you have “removed the plank from your own eye” as advised by Jesus of Nazareth over 2000 years ago.

This thread is really shocking. Such utter intolerance and narrow minded attitudes to a young person who has had the guts to “stand up and be counted”.
To comment negatively on her physical appearance is inexcusable.
She is only 18 and like it or not has had a profound influence on young people. Some posters should feel ashamed of themselves. Sickening.

Agreed, whatever you think of her she is a young girl, some of the posts here a very nasty.

She's a terrified young woman who doesn't appear to have any belief in human ingenuity and ability to adapt. In a way I feel sorry for her and others like her. It can't be nice to feel so negative about the future.

I had been wondering if you were still a climate change denier. Seems as though you are….

GillT57 Sat 06-Nov-21 17:47:57

It is a pity that the people who are so vitriolic about a teenager campaigning about climate change cannot get equally angry about this disgusting government and their contribution to the problem. As for you highlanddreams your comment about asylum seekers was dreadful. Quite frankly, there are a lot of nasty posters on here today and you should, but probably won't, be ashamed of yourselves

Golly, some breathtakingly rude posts on here about a teenage girl, some of you should be ashamed of yourselves, especially comments about her appearance which has no relevance at all to her message. So, all of you Greta haters; is the same message from Sir David Attenborough ok?

I’m sure it would be

He’s an old white man.

I understand the situation perfectly well and don’t need to be lectured and patronised by a rude little brat who assumes we all have the mentality of a gnat.

Then don’t listen?

Lots of people do not understand.

This sounds like what my gran used to tell me. "Smile! You'll never get a husband with a grumpy face like that!"

I find it a bit unbelievable my post was the only one deleted on this thread, so quickly too. Maybe it is nadine dorries

Unbelievable

trisher Sat 06-Nov-21 17:34:16

Thanks MamaCaz for posting a repudiation of all the "We were so green" posts on this thread. The absolute lack of acceptance of responsibility for how this climate crisis has come about is ridiculous.
But I suspect it is closely linked to all the hatred and vitriol being thrown at Greta. It's so much easier to castigate the person who points out how dirty your house is than to get to work and do the cleaning.
I can take or leave her. At least I know she's not cooking the books, fixing up deals with her mates or establishing links with rich oligarchs who are even now making arrangements to get them and their family through any catastrophe.

I know, what a waste. She could have been at home playing with her dolls and her lego instead of changing the world and becoming a leadership figure for young people. What a pity.

Time for another sit down Alegrias1…..?

No, the link was to Martin off Friday night dinner smile

It's just me being dim, then! ?

I said I find her irritating.

Good, she's the the itch that everyone needs to keep on scratching!

Oh dear Kandinsky.
She’s a climate activist, not a political activist
She commands no formal power or resources
She is not acting from self interest or a political ideology
She is driven by passion to save the planet to protect future generations and she receives so much publicity because she is supported in her goals by millions of people who are enlightened about the impact of climate change worldwide
She is 18 years old

but what about Boris?

AGAA4 Sat 06-Nov-21 17:27:34

Just read through this thread and the vitriolic comments are unbelievable.
Whether you like Greta or not her cause is something we should all be invested in.
