She needs to get on with her school work!
Here is Greta getting on with her school work.

And here's what she did in her gap year.

Greta certainly looks for all the world like a happy, non-anxious young woman pleased to be getting back on with her school work after a year of doing all she could for the future of the planet.

Greta Thunberg is a Pain in the proverbial
(420 Posts)Is it just me or is she increasingly coming across as a brat having a permanent tantrum.? She has no positive ideas, merely demands to stop doing just about everything while the media hangs on her every intemperate word? Blah blah blah…..
I'm amazed at how well she speaks English. Better than many natives.
Kandinsky
So Greta will achieve in 3 years what Greenpeace haven’t been able to in 50 years?
Right okay.
I’m reminded of the quote. - ‘overnight success’ usually takes about 10 years.
How insulting to all the environmental activists who have worked tirelessly for over 50 years that you put your faith in one 18 year old woman.
The OP said 'pain in the proverbial' - and no that is NOT Greta. I'll say no more.
Other young activists have not received the same publicity but they are out there:
www.greenpeace.org.uk/news/not-voiceless-but-unheard-meet-the-youth-activists-cop26-glasgow-rainbow-warrior/
Even more are working tirelessly to find ways for a better future.
Greta is the voice who will inspire more young people to strive to save our planet, like her or not.

All the Greta lovers shouldn’t even be online as laptops / iPhones use an awful lot of energy.
If you really cared about the environment you wouldn’t have these devices - or if you have them they’d be used for necessity/ emergencies only - not just idle entertainment/ social media use.
But then hypocrisy is everywhere.
I've just looked it up and running a laptop for 8 hours it uses 5p worth of electricity. Charging a phone costs £2.48 per year.
Interested to know where you saw read that these appliances take an awful lot of energy Kandinsky
For some of us Gransnet and social media isn't 'idle entertainment', it's education, sharing of ideas, broadening our mind to new ideas, sharing our own ideas and companionship. For some of us that is.
What do you stand for Kandinsky.? I've seen you on many posts. You always seem so negative and antagonistic on here. Often dropping in how much you loathe someone e.g. Chris Packham and always without explanation. This often results in negative feedback for you.
I would really love it if you would start a thread about something you're passionate about so that we could engage with you in a positive way.
Scones
I understood what Kandinsky meant. It wasn’t what it Costa us as an individual. The cost worldwide ( and therefore a drain on world resources) is gigantuan.

Sorry about the word Costa another company I boycott ?

I expected nothing else from you both Lucca/BlueBelle.
?
She's definitely a pain in the proverbial. I have to turn the sound down when she comes on.

Well sadly it's not just you, from some of the posts on here. But it's not me. I've nothing but admiration for this strong, brave, intelligent, articulate young woman who's inspired millions.Me too. There have been 14 COP conferences and still governments are just talking. I hope there will be action to reduce the human impact on this planet. She has certainly raised awareness, so good on her.
This COP was number 26. They started in 1995. Your maths is just a little bit out.
Another one fed up of hearing her blah, blah, blah. I’ve yet to hear her offer any constructive solutions. Surprised the media are giving her so much coverage as she doesn’t say anything new.

Have you got any constructive conclusions?
I have.
Stop deforestation now.
Ban all new coal mines now
Switch to alternative energy now.
Stop eating meat raised in Argentina or New Zealand. Do we really want New Zealand lamb when that from the UK is so much better
I could list many more and I'm sure others could do so too, including GT. It's easy to do but persuading govts and big business is another matter. Much harder than just coming up with solutions.
She gets on my nerves too, she doesn’t appear to have had a childhood, I agree totally with everything that is being said about saving the planet etc etc but I think it’s being rammed down our throats enough now, even when you switch on the soaps for a bit of escapism it’s there
The biggest problem in my view is the ever growing population using ever diminishing natural resources. Apart from Sir David Attenborough I haven’t heard a single representative brave enough to acknowledge this.
I need to apologise to lemongrove about a comment that I made upthread.
I posted in error, and didn’t even mean to mention you
So sorry. I was having a plumbing based emergency (not a euphemism)

Do explain yourself timetogo what does this mean
Surely you can do better than just leave that hanging !
I cannot believe all the vitriol against a young girl obviously frustrated by the older generation who have caused this problem ….her generation hasn’t! The snipes, the full on rude hatred is unbelievable and those using it should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves it says so much more about you than about her
If you don’t like her don’t listen, stay in your little bubble
you ll probably be gone before the biggest problems arise anyway
If absolutely nothing else she has got you talking, thinking hating, Maybe you can put your hate and energy into doing something good instead of wittering away with your mean and hateful comments
Its interesting to see the names of the posters doing the hating and the disbelieving and link them to their political leanings in other threads and posts
Say what you like about Greta, she's not wrong.
Alegrias I agree with you.
She is annoying but she's talking about a life when we are long gone.
Climate Change has been brought to the forefront in part by her persistance.
I was impressed by the calm delivery of her speech yesterday and her English has improved over the last year.
She is beginning to gain my respect.

Yes please Timetogo. What did your comment mean ?
I’m late to this thread but I’ve read it all. Some of the comments are gransnet at its worst. Vitriolic, ignorant comments about an 18 year old who as has been pointed out is on the autistic spectrum. Her area of special interest is the environment, the devastating impact of climate change. She’s making a noise, the media report on her.
She and David A have become recognisable figure heads. It can only be positive if it encourages us to think about this important issue. To reduce that to ‘washing yoghurt pots’ as Kandinsky suggests is as silly as it’s offensive.
There are some smug references to our generation walking to school, suggesting today’s parents are over protective and too busy to walk their children. The roads were safer in the 50’s and 60’s - they’re dangerous now. Central heating, we didn’t gave it we burned coal.
I get the impression some posters would be pleased to see Greta drown under the pressures she faces.

I never said that. Please check who actually said what before accusing them of being offensive.
Actually it was me who brought up washing yogurt pots.
