Despite all the gripes the UK did vote to leave and really what is happening was pretty predictable. You voted for it, suck it up and move on.

I was a Brexit voter and would do the same again. Brexit is not dead, but it must have escaped Pippa that we have had Covid hovering over our lives for a continuous period and now the young activists (r wearing expensive trainers and clothes that they throw out after wearing a couple of times. They spend their lives using social media on Apple products, which cost the earth in different ways)I rarely post here because on political matters those that are leftish are always sure they are right and they do not want to do anything but slam the Tory govt. I think they were all educated by left wing teachers and in fact I have always wondered how many of you were teachers (I was)
I seem to recall Tony Blair went on many foreign holidays paid for by his moneyed friends. Back in the day James Callaghan and Dennis Healey owned land and large properties in Sussex. Heard of Claudia Webbe? Well she was Labour and s*um, Labour expelled her, but she still maintains her seat in the Commons.
I dislike the EU intensely and so do others. It seems to me that some people only accept democracy when they agree with it, but will never accept the will of the majority. We left and we will not be resuming our membership. Get over it and find a more popular leader. Keir Starmer is a decent man who lacks charisma. The Tories will find another leader, possibly Liz Truss because Boris has lost his shine.

Most of those who voted to Remain seem to have accepted that we have left the EU and moved on.It’s healthier to think that way, bitterness is corrosive.
It’s far, far too early to be demanding ‘myriad benefits’ in fact, with the economy after the pandemic as it is, it will take even longer....but it will come.

The lack of democracy and democratic accountability was a large reason I voted in favour of leaving the sclerotic EU. I felt justified yesterday, yet again, when I saw that the EU was trying to change its rules so it could deploy its (at present) small army without buy-in from its members where it presently has to consult and gain consent.

This mission creep is actually part of the deliberate original policy of 'ever closer union' which, de facto, means demoting sovereign counties to the status of regions and ruling from the centre without electoral mandate.

Trade and exchange, however, a common market in other words, is an excellent idea and it is a pity we were not able to stick to that.

I’d be keeping my counsel on the drunkenness story if I were you lemongrove. It will be deeply embarrassing for the Tories if it is proved to be a smear campaign. I agree that an investigation is needed - that’s what happened when the Welsh Tory leader resigned after it was proved that he’d been involved in a drinking session in the Senedd during lockdown. Politicians can all be foolish, it’s not a party specific trait.
