What's a "new woman"?
Well, if they wear striking , latest fashion clothes, it rather takes away from the seriousness of the discourse. I also did say they were ‘thrusting, new womanish’ as well. Laura K is also very smartly dressed, but it doesn’t detract from what she’s saying…
So weird that female presenters are judged on what they wear rather than their expertise in the job
No Lucca, there was a comma after ‘sister’.
The prime minister’s sister James O’Brien ???
Perhaps after having had a stroke some years ago Andrew Marr just wants to enjoy life now, maybe concentrate on his writing.
Great topic Urmstongran, I’ll be sorry to see Andrew Marr go, not sure about him going to LBC, although I’ve been listening to LBC for years, I’m tiring of the ‘ moaning Minnies’ who ring in all the time, and the biases of some presenters like the Prime Minister’s sister, James o’Brien, who loves the sound of his own voice and opinions, etc. However, Matt Frei presents a balanced view; Nick Abbot is great and a welcome relief, also I like Ian Payne - none for AMarr’s replacement but as good to listen to. Please not Nick Robinson, can’t stand him always interrupting, nor Emily Maitlis (too distracting with her dangly earrings and thigh high boots) or Emma Barnett, both too thrusting and new womanish, and would make me switch off. Laura K is, IMO, very good, don’t see her as biased. Also give me Kirsty Wark any day, a very good presenter, overlooked for key positions such as Question Time - unfortunately could be retiring soon I suppose. QT went a bit flat with Fiona Bruce, a bit lightweight for that programme, but she has improved into the job, having toned down her attractive but not suitable, outfits for serious political discussion, she is excellent by the way on Antiques Roadshow. Amol Rajan, the BBC Media Show presenter is a good addition to Today, maybe he might be good to take over Andrew Marr show? Also Cathy Newman from Channel 4 news is a very good presenter. Unfortunately a lot of the very good news presenters have retired or are soon to do so - John Humphries, Jon Snow, David Dimbleby, Andrew Neil - I feel or felt they still have a voice. Having listened to LBC for years, I have now moved onto Times Radio (available as an app on computers, iPad, iPhone etc) which I enjoy very much. It is a topical, news etc programme with no public phoning in, though one can tweet apparently. Many well known journalists and broadcasters on it, knocks strips off GBnews and LBC - surprised A Marr didn’t opt for Times Radio, though I expect he doesn’t want to be influenced politically; though I don’t feel, myself, that Times Radio is particularly biased. For an entertaining slot on Times Radio, listen into Matt Chorley, weekdays 10-1pm, for political discourse without the boring bits, as he says. But please, please, NOT Nick Robinson as Andrew Marr replacement!

Ok worriedwell if that’s all you see/hear, then that’s all you see/hear.
I’m watching a debate on social care.
After I'd got GC to bed, washed up etc I sat down to watch the news on Sky. It was ten to ten so I thought I'd have another look at GBNews for 10 minutes. Guess what they were talking about? Yes you guessed it, it was vaccines. This one was about if people should have to pay for medical care if they haven't had the vaccine.
I had to smile. I don't know how I manage to only ever hear vaccine talk but I think I'll give up.
I understand that Andrew Marr is 62, not that far off retirement. Perhaps he had just got bored and with a reasonable pension assured, decided he could safely work off his reputation for a few years.
A bit like swimming wearing a life jacket and water wings.

The whole of the BBC could shut down for me .Its gone from being a balanced media outlet to one of just opinions of the presenters with little or no understanding of issues
The BBC has been trying its hardest to achieve a balance in its reporting. People complain that it is too right wing or too left wing so it is probably somewhere in the middle.
To my mind they've been trying too hard, particularly during the post referendum period when they had a limited supply of politicians and business people who would appear on the politics programs. That's why the likes of Mark Francois, Tim Martin, Farage and Richard Tice appeared so often.
They've also had the government hanging over them, trying to install the likes of Paul Dacre (who has now said he won't re-apply) as head of Ofcom.
those are just the options you pick for the best reception, or whatever it is called online, depending on whether you are in london or not.
there is no lbc london as a station.
it is a national broadcaster.
with two streams, the main lbc. also lbc news, which supplies the news for the main station, and continues with rolling news 24/7. it's just information, not entertainment.
I'm still a Radio 4 fan and that's my go-to station, but in the early hours, from 04.00, sometimes tune in to LBC London to hear Steve Allen for a while, then Radio 4, then Nick Ferrari on LBC London after the 08.00 news for the main political interview. That's the slot when the political players do the rounds of the studios.
As far as I understand, LBC London & LBC are both available nationally.
Yes, there is LBC ‘proper’ and LBC rolling news.
I’ve never actually listened to the latter.

Here you go. Have a listen.
www.globalplayer.com/live/lbcnews/uk/
that's the news channel, not the main one with the presenters, interviews and call-ins, that we have been discussing.
see my previous link for the main lbc channel.
also available on freeview, dab radio etc.

Where do I find LBC? Is it television or radio? I’ve never watched/listened to it, but lots of people say it’s very good. It’s time I started I think.
Ok worriedwell if that’s all you see/hear, then that’s all you see/hear.
I’m watching a debate on social care.
I’m completely indifferent. As far as I’m concerned he’s just yet another BBC member of the news team, who thinks his voice and opinions are more influential than they actually are.
I can't watch now, DH and GS watching something but all I've heard them going on about was vaccines.
theworriedwell
There’s a good debate going on at the moment discussing ^covid race bias. Led by a black woman with a mixed race and white man as guests.
X-post, theworriedwell
Apart from the BBC, maybe.
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-59365722
Or Channel 4.
www.channel4.com/news/record-number-of-migrants-trying-to-reach-uk-by-boat
It really isn't, the number of people arriving is being reported pretty well every day on all the channels.
I actually like GBnews which is going from strength to strength it’s only one that’s actually saying how many ppl are coming into our country via a dingy
varian
Exactly the opposite of GB news which is going nowhere Ug
I've put it on a few times to see what it was like. They seem to go on about vaccines all the time or maybe I've just been unfortunate when I've put it on.
