If Peppa Pig is now the symbol of global Britain, what have you got to lose Mr Farage?

He says in the Telegraph just now:

“ ...as the official number of arrivals for 2021 heads towards 25,000 (we still don’t have the Home Office figures for Tuesday 16 November) it does seem as though something is beginning to change. Reports are circulating that the Prime Minister has become fretful. As well he should. On his watch, the mantra of “taking back control” of our borders has descended into farce.

The biggest problem Boris Johnson faces is not the sheer impracticality and cost to the public purse of housing, clothing, feeding and giving free healthcare and education to huge numbers of people who have chosen to leave the safety of France to come to this country. Neither is it the daily expense of conducting the Channel operations. Instead, it is the threat to Britain’s national security and the safety of its citizens. Johnson is ultimately responsible for guarding his people. This is the sacred duty of any prime minister. It should override all others. Yet the present occupant of 10 Downing Street seems to have abandoned his post.”

Well said Sir Edward Leigh Conservative MP for Gainsborough, Lincs. Speaking in the Commons yesterday.

“At the referendum, us Brexiteers told the people that we would take back control. It is clear that, in this aspect, we have lost control. If we tell the most desperate economic migrants in the world, “We will provide a free border taxi service across the channel, we will never deport you and we will put you up in a hotel for as long as you like”, is it any wonder that more and more come? This is now a national emergency. Will the Home Secretary introduce an emergency powers Act to override the Human Rights Act, if necessary, and put people in secure accommodation now? Otherwise, we will not solve the problem”.

Appalling statement

Alegrias1 Tue 23-Nov-21 21:41:58

This is wicked. Truly wicked.

Override the Human Right Act? Do you hear yourselves?

How low can people sink?

Just can't even begin ...this thread is just so dreadfully appalling.

Well said Mr Richard Tice, The Reform Party

Mr Tice said that the government is “woefully” failing in its duty to secure the nation’s borders, arguing that migrants should be turned directly back to France, a safe and prosperous nation from which refugees have no justification to flee from.

Maudi Tue 23-Nov-21 21:58:53

He argued that the waves of migrant boats would cease within “two or three days” if the government began merely sending them back to France, which he said can be justified under existing international law, a claim which the French have denied.

Maudi Tue 23-Nov-21 21:59:35

“There will be some difficult discussions with the EU and with France, but this will stop and it will stop fast,” Mr Tice said.

Urmstongran Tue 23-Nov-21 22:04:18

Oh C’mon ... get real about this. The government has little interest in stopping these rubber dinghies. There are more crossing the Channel because fear has spread amongst would be migrants paying people traffickers to climb into a container.

Is it any wonder they are flocking here in their thousands ……..

No, somebody arriving from France can't be turned directly back to France without being interviewed, at the very least. Everybody has the right to apply for asylum once they have stepped on British soil.

Tice is wrong and lawyers have called him out again and again.

There are thousands fewer migrants than there used to be. You are being manipulated by people who are either ignorant of the facts or have their own agendas, which I assure you, do not include making your life better.

Are you serious? Would you swap your life for that?

Here's an article from the Guardian that talks about this. I thought it was spot on.

The ever present danger of remainers must always be considered regarding Boris’ tenure.

As the Uk is pushing the EU and threatening Article 16, it should be of no surprise that unnamed MP's, Labour and the media are looking to topple Boris Johnson.

Whilst Boris thretens to take the UK further away from the EU, the remain elite want to cling ever tighter - in the hope that one day the UK will be subsumed again into the EU

Well he didn't do himself any favours with his shambolic Pepper Pig speech ? but I don't think he'll be going anywhere soon, who would take his place? He's gone down in my estimation I'm not happy about social care costs, the watered down HS2 route and his failure to sort out the migrant crisis.

Urmstongran Wed 24-Nov-21 10:10:10

Have to agree with you over the migrant crisis Maudi and the social care ruling. Boris is done. The Brexit warm glow is now in the rear view mirror and the thousands of people coming ashore illegally is front and centre in many peoples minds (except here of course in this little bubble of expert knowledge) and he doesn’t seem able or isn’t interested in sorting it .
