I've just tried to send for a pack of LFTs via the government web site.

There are none available.

(I'd screenshot the page but I've never got the hang of screenshotting...)

Where does this leave us all?

BlueBelle Mon 13-Dec-21 12:48:53

I ve just picked two boxes up (I was offered two I didn’t ask)
Perhaps it depends on your area

If you go on the Government web site there are instructions about how to order lft from your local chemist. You are asked for your town and then a list comes up with the name of your local chemist. I think you can also ring 119 to order some tests for collection.

Jane71 Mon 13-Dec-21 13:02:56

The shortage is on the News now.

Can still get codes to pick up from your local chemists this am

My local pharmacy would only give out one pack. They have now made it more difficult as the pharmacist sent me away with a leaflet saying you have to scan a QR code before requesting a pack. I avoided this by ordering online, which was not offered on the leaflet the pharmacist sent me away with. If this is no longer available, not sure what else I can do.

That has been the case since the beginning of October so I also order online now as it is easier for me. Luckily I have built up a stash of tests as at one time the library staff were “forcing” them on everyone taking out books!

Sparklefizz Mon 13-Dec-21 14:45:26

Due to the unavailability online where I usually order mine, I applied online for a pharmacy code and had to show it on my phone when I went there. She offered me 2 packs, so no shortage locally, and they will keep me going for a little while.

I would suggest trying this option.

Try the Government website again tomorrow Maizie .
This happened before but the stocks for NHS and Pharmacies will scale up.

I will.

I admire your confidence wink

Sparklefizz Mon 13-Dec-21 14:54:56

Small village pharmacies would probably be a better option than chains like Boots.

Maybe he’s concentrating on organising the massive increase in the booster vaccination programme, among endless other things which require his time and attention.

But no, let’s forget about all that and just take the opportunity for another Boris bash.

Really tedious isn’t it JE?

Some seem to think Boris introduced COVID deliberately just to inconvenience them, the rules should have been set in stone from day one and every other country, except the uk, have dealt with the pandemic flawlessly!

I am sure it’s Boris’s fault if they stub their big toe! Whining is so boring!

I bet Boris wishes he had a magical Crystal Ball so he could guarantee the future. Instead there is mass speculation that he MIGHT have a speck of baby sick on his shoulder from his newborn daughter!

muse Mon 13-Dec-21 15:00:40

Try what sparklefizz says Maizie. There is a link on the Gov.Uk site for chemists near you that stock them.

I've just tried it and have got three local chemists

Good luck,

Josianne Mon 13-Dec-21 15:09:55

MaizieD everyone is giving you suggestions to help. If you are desperate I can post you one of mine to attend whatever it is you need it for.

EllanVannin Mon 13-Dec-21 15:10:17

My local chemist has packs of them in stock.

Rosalyn69 Mon 13-Dec-21 15:10:34

Didn’t I read somewhere that the shortage is due to people who have been in contact with someone with Covid having to test daily? That would make sense.

No, he's not. A civil servant called Emily Lawson is.

... And the first death in hospital from omicron has just been announced...

No! What was announced was that one person had died after testing positive for Omicron.

We have not been told what that person actually died of. It could well be as a result of an industrial accident, acute peritonitis, a brain tumour or a hundred other things with the virus' presence being incidental.

I do wish people would listen to what is actually said and not just reflexively react to what they think they heard.
I'll get my coat...

MissAdventure Mon 13-Dec-21 16:14:33

I've just read the guardian report, and it states that the person died of it, and with it, so reading that means it's anyone's guess what is the truth.

Scribbles Mon 13-Dec-21 16:29:53

Thanks for the update, MissA. I have only heard this news item on R4 so my apologies to MaizieD if she gets her news from a different source.

I wonder what the truth is?

JaneJudge Mon 13-Dec-21 16:34:41

If it helps, schools.colleges and universities have their own direct supply. Care providers do too. So hopefully everyone has just panic ordered LFTs (I ordered some this weekend, god knows if I'll get them) as I'd ran out for me

I have this discussion quite often. It’s just not possible to know how many people have died from Covid. Unless someone can tell me otherwise.

I’ve found this very misleading and it’s made me so cynical of anything that is said. This is not a healthy place to be.

ayse Mon 13-Dec-21 16:37:17

Sorry, quoted the wrong post.

The comment still stands though.

westendgirl Mon 13-Dec-21 16:40:49

Lots at our local chemist. I have had them from the library too .

MaizieD Mon 13-Dec-21 16:46:24

It's the most tedious discussion ever. You can have a brain tumour and still be actually killed by covid.

I'm really not sure what people are trying to prove by airing it. That covid isn't really a significant killer?

TillyTrotter Mon 13-Dec-21 16:47:34

Maizie I did what Sparklefizz did - at 3 pm this afternoon and took my mobile with the code to the Chemist’s.
The first one had run out of packs, the second one gave me a one week pack in return for the code.
It is just half a mile from my home in a city.
Good Luck and don’t give up ?
