Will someone please tell them Quidditch isn’t real?

For heavens sake! (I could express it more strongly, but really…)
OFFICIALS in charge of Quidditch, a sport inspired by Harry Potter, are to change its name to “distance” it from JK Rowling because of her views on transgender issues.
JK Rowling has been targeted by trans activists because she does not agree with ‘erasing the concept of sex
JK Rowling has been targeted by trans activists because she does not agree with ‘erasing the concept of sex
US Quidditch (USQ) and Major League Quidditch (MLQ) will conduct surveys in the next few months to decide the new name, they announced in a joint statement this week
It said: “The leagues are hoping a name change can help them continue to distance themselves from the works of JK Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter book series, who has increasingly come under scrutiny for her anti-trans positions in recent years
Our sport has developed a reputation as one of the most progressive sports in the world on gender equality and inclusivity, in part thanks to its gender maximum rule, which stipulates that a team may not have more than four players of the same gender on the field at a time

1). She wrote the bliddy books.
2) It’s not real
3) What have Harry Potter books to do with sexuality/ transgender/ transitioning / or even (whisper) reality?

I really and truly despair confusedconfused

Appalled - must review more!

J K Rowling is being wiped out because she doesn't follow the party line on gender. She is not invited to the HP anniversary event (quite a big deal by the look of it) and even the HP kids are against her. So people are not allowed to give their opinions any more or they will be excluded from this brave new society which is developing before our eyes.

I read that with a sense of shock!

Who are these people who think they now own HP? The Thought Police?

As for Quidditch , is it 1st April?
I'd say they were all daft as brooms but they are more sinister and dangerous than that.

I had to have a look at a video to see how this land based version of quidditch worked. So you run about with a broomstick between your legs and throw a ball through a hoop. Disappointingly, no flying was involved and it just looked daft. I were them I would certainly change the name. Kidditch, maybe, or Quackitch. I doubt that JKR would want to be associated with it anyway.

Perhaps they'll all get tangled up in their broomsticks and do themselves an injury.

We can live in hope

(Ooh, sorry, that was spiteful grin)

I read about this earlier and became so irritated, I stopped reading. Childish and avoidant but honestly, JKR is a heroic woman. She wrote books that got boys reading. She’s brought more fun and enjoyment to the lives of children than any of those attacking her.
I read them along with my young teens. They now have small children who love the books and movies.
It’s like Narnia in some people’s hearts. Always winter and never Christmas - bah humbug

Absolutely agree Iam64 my grandson was immersed in Harry Potter when the books first came out, didn't really read much until then. He is 27 now and still enjoys the books and films.
JKR is a woman to be admired for many reasons, not slated as is happening now.
As for Quidditch I would have thought anything which gets people exercising has to be a good thing.

Blossoming Sun 19-Dec-21 12:44:45

They’re lucky JKR didn’t sue them for unauthorised use of the name ‘Quidditch’.

Smileless2012 Sun 19-Dec-21 12:47:55

And for misrepresentation Blossoming. 'Quidditch' involves flying, not running around with a broom between your legs. That's what I used to do with friends when we were very young, and pretended we were riding horsesgrin.

It was always a problem getting over the jumps without knocking them over with the brush at the endhmm.

Buttonjugs Sun 19-Dec-21 12:53:11

I don’t agree with her opinions but firmly believe we have to separate a person from their art, otherwise there would be very little to read, watch or listen to.

Calistemon Sun 19-Dec-21 14:34:31

Yes! With a horse's head made out of an old sock and buttons!
I must have been about 7 or 8.

You'd think these people would have grown out of that kind of caper.

maddyone Sun 19-Dec-21 15:00:30

I agree with everything written on this thread, except for one. You have all expressed expressed exactly how I feel about this. To be sure, the young actors, now adults although not behaving as such wouldn’t be where they are now without JKR.

Our sport has developed a reputation as one of the most progressive sports in the world on gender equality and inclusivity, in part thanks to its gender maximum rule, which stipulates that a team may not have more than four players of the same gender on the field at a time

So a team of 7 could be all males provided that no more than 4 of them identify as girls or women at the time.
"inclusive".

Calistemon Sun 19-Dec-21 16:31:55

Oh surely, playing a made up game on broomsticks with such rules has to mean they are taking the piss proverbial out of everyone?

They cannot be serious!

FarNorth Sun 19-Dec-21 17:05:58

I found a YouTube video and it actually looks like a fun game, for something that's about running around a field with balls.

Are you saying you need balls to run around this field?

Chewbacca Sun 19-Dec-21 17:31:30

Are you saying you need balls to run around this field?

And will they check who has and who hasn't?

mokryna Sun 19-Dec-21 17:33:24

Thanks to JKR my dyslexic French schooled daughter started reading English at the age of 11. When she was 15 she only had a reading age of 9 in French and she asked to leave the regular stream. Her English was good enough to be accepted into an English university and now she does the job she always dreamt of.

AmberSpyglass Sun 19-Dec-21 18:09:00

They’re just having fun. And JKR is a hideous transphobe who is highly overrated as an author.

That's hilarious AmberSpyglass! Got any other jokes? gringringrin

Iam64 Sun 19-Dec-21 18:42:51

Sorry that should read “ill informed’. Predictive text

Doodledog Sun 19-Dec-21 18:54:17

AmberSpyglass, are you able to link us up to anything in JKR's own words that has led you to this conclusion, please?

Iam64 Sun 19-Dec-21 18:57:31

Thanks Doodledog, for your reasoned response to Amber Spyglass. Apologies for my own rather irritable response

Calistemon Sun 19-Dec-21 18:57:34

I know, I used to play on broomsticks like that when I was a child, horsey, horsey!
