Will someone please tell them Quidditch isn’t real?

I cannot make head nor tail of this. Do they zoom around on broomsticks ?

Can they just do that? Given JKR invented the game and the name, surely they can't just change it as they want and rename it? She must own rights.

I think it's quite fun that they have managed to make it into an actual sport but have no idea how it's played, since flying around on broomsticks isn't a real thing. I'm guessing it's been adapted to ground level and running around? I might see if I can find that out.

Seems strange they are happy to use her ideas though, what hypocrites. If I was her I would sue them for plagiarism, if that’s the right word.

I read about this earlier and became so irritated, I stopped reading. Childish and avoidant but honestly, JKR is a heroic woman. She wrote books that got boys reading. She’s brought more fun and enjoyment to the lives of children than any of those attacking her.
I read them along with my young teens. They now have small children who love the books and movies.
It’s like Narnia in some people’s hearts. Always winter and never Christmas - bah humbug

So many articles in the news annoy me Maw. This was one. I tend to swerve them after the first couple of paragraphs. I know where they’re heading! I see the words “transgender” “cancel culture” “woke” and then move right on along.

I find it outrageous what they’re doing to JKR. She was merely stating the obvious. I can’t for the life of me understand why every institution is rolling over for the trans movement. For heaven’s sake stand up to them. It’s becoming more dystopian every week.

Haters gonna hate. It is essentially misogyny. I admire JKR for standing up to the bullies.

J K Rowling is being wiped out because she doesn't follow the party line on gender. She is not invited to the HP anniversary event (quite a big deal by the look of it) and even the HP kids are against her. So people are not allowed to give their opinions any more or they will be excluded from this brave new society which is developing before our eyes.

Just dreadful. The world is being taken over by bullies on keyboards who decide who can stay and who has to be rid of.

Yep a powerful wealthy woman who they cant shut up. Its driving them to distraction. Misogyny on steroids. Oh and dont think we havent noticed that the women they target most ruthlessly have a history of domestic abuse or sexual violence.

A parallel could be drawn between the extreme trans activists who believe that it's possible to change biological sex and the same cohort who also believe that Quidditch is a real game not a fictional one. JKR deserves a medal for her patience and fortitude in dealing with the TRA bullies who rely on cancel culture to get their opinions across; she's my hero.

Ridiculous. I’m a great admirer of JKR, who is a wonderful role model for young people having made her fortune, which she generously shares, from scratch. As has already been said, she’s helped millions of children around the world to discover the joy of reading. Then she crosses the trans lobby by making a factual statement, also made by the eminent Robert Winstone (?sp) and, rather like those whose made their money from the slave trade, we must remove all trace of her. When did free speech die?

I do like JK Rowling, not only for what she has done for children's literature but also for her philanthropy. I think she's an admirable human being and am appalled at the amount of hate that has come her way for expressing her opinion, which we are all entitled to.

I look back with affection at the Harry Potter years, I picked up her first two books in Waterstones when they were on promotion before all the furore surrounding them kicked in for the children to read on holiday. At the time I had no idea who she was and what would come down the line as to their overwhelming success. Read them they did on that holiday,
my not so mad about books son like many others devoured the whole series, I think my "reader" son liked them but preferred the His Dark Materials series. I don't think we can under estimate how she captured the imagination of a generation and as others have pointed out, engaged so many boys who were not too enthusiastic about books.

I think her trio of child actors have behaved quite shabbily towards her, having seen all of them in more adult material post Harry Potter, I'm not sure they are that great at what they do, although that is a matter of opinion, but do wonder if they would have become as successful and rich as they have done without that almighty leg up from the Harry Potter films.

In our house, we love the Robert Gailbraiths as well and those are a testament to her versatility as a writer.

Claims to be one of the most progressive sports in the world (!) on gender equality and inclusivity. Perhaps someone should buy they a dictionary so they can look up the meaning of inclusivity:

the practice or policy of providing equal access to opportunities and resources for people who might otherwise be excluded or marginalized

It would seem their "inclusivity" does not include anyone who may have a different opinion to theirs

I am appealed at the treatment being meted out to J K Rowling.
Why? - simply because she holds an opinion shared by many, certainly by me, has resulted in her receiving death threats!
Are we all supposed to keep our mouths shut, walk on eggshells
and not dare say we don’t agree with something? J K Rowling is a breath of fresh air in the murky world that is denying women’s rights.
She has given so much enjoyment for children globally. A wonderful role model as someone who started following her dream to write with such success that children devoured her books.
Her treatment by those who now have a successful career down to her is truly sickening.

Agree with Kalu and it is worrying to think where this is all leading as the future unfolds. How can a small minority take over society simply by shouting the loudest? It's time women stood up for their rights and opinions in a BIG way, after all there are a lot more of them.

I had to have a look at a video to see how this land based version of quidditch worked. So you run about with a broomstick between your legs and throw a ball through a hoop. Disappointingly, no flying was involved and it just looked daft. I were them I would certainly change the name. Kidditch, maybe, or Quackitch. I doubt that JKR would want to be associated with it anyway.
