I read a couple of days ago that ghastly Sarah Moulds who was caught on video kicking and punching a horse has been sacked from her job as a teacher. Can't say I'm sorry. What I want to know is why she hasn’t got a criminal conviction ?

Why did the hunt saboteurs choose instead to post the video on-line? Forgive me but I always doubt video evidence unless there is actual proof that it hasn't been tampered with or corroborating witnesses. I know how easy it is to edit stuff.

So ironic to see you making and anti-hunt saboteurs case, trisher. Or are you implying that they were out to 'get' Ms Mould and fabricated the evidence?

It may be easy to edit stuff, but a number of very knowledgeable horsey people on this thread have viewed the video and would be able to tell very easily if the sequence had been edited. It hasn't been edited. It is a totally familiar and common scene that we will have seen hundreds of times in many different settings. (People loading their horses, that is, not the abuse, which is very uncommon)

Good grief!

* It seems then that judgement by social media is an accepted tool for dismissal. *

No trisher. The woman was dismissed due to her actions in abusing a horse. You didn't have to be there to see what happened.

If social media is so influential Boris Johnson would not be PM and we'd still be in the EU.

You're flogging a dead horse

Which goes to show the illogicality of some posters. BJ is PM because he won an election. He will remain PM until either his party removes him or another election unseats him. Thinking social media has any influence on this shows a distinct lack of understanding of democratic process.

Iam64 if what you say is true then the presentation of this video to the RSPCA would have resulted in this woman being banned from working with horses. Why did the hunt saboteurs choose instead to post the video on-line? Forgive me but I always doubt video evidence unless there is actual proof that it hasn't been tampered with or corroborating witnesses. I know how easy it is to edit stuff.

It also appealed for anyone who had witnessed it to come forward.
I wonder if people were reticent?

Curlywhirly Thu 23-Dec-21 22:22:27

The Trust conducted a 6 week investigation - the investigation must have included interviewing the woman; therefore she would have had ample opportunity to have a voice and way of replying.

Evil cow deserves all she gets.

Iam64 Thu 23-Dec-21 20:34:40

The trust conducted a six week investigation into the incident.
Bringing the organisation into disrepute has long been grounds for sacking
I’m not projecting my emotions or prejudices on to this situation. I did watch the video so may be better placed to comment. I also spent many happy hours around and riding horses till health got in the way ten years ago. Hitting them round the face and kicking them is abuse. Behaviour like that wouldn’t be tolerated in tour average riding school

MissAdventure Thu 23-Dec-21 20:21:27

The rspca is investigating the incident.

MissAdventure Thu 23-Dec-21 20:17:57

Even the hunt have condemned her.
No surprise that they don't want anyone with that mentality linked with them.

trisher Thu 23-Dec-21 20:01:38

It's funny isn't it that people cannot understand when someone moves the discussion away from the prejudices and preconceptions posted, away from all the media hype and hysteria. I don't know what went on with the horse I wasn't there. I refuse to judge by a brief video posted on the internet for whatever reason. If the allegation was cruelty the hunt saboteurs could have sent it to the RSPCA and had a proper investigation. They chose instead to have judgement by social media which most of you seem happy to endorse. I don't choose to do so.
And if you don't understand that my references to boxing are purely to show that neither my personal dislikes, nor yours, should influence or have any sway in any accusations or judgements of anyone, then it isn't my problem. You can describe the actions as cruelty if you wish, what you have absolutely no right to do is to condemn draw any conclusions about what happened, or to project your emotions and prejudices onto the situation, and condemn the woman who has no voice or way of replying.

I understand she lost her job because she was found to have brought the trust into disrepute. It seems then that judgement by social media is an accepted tool for dismissal. I don't regard this as any sort of justice.

Iam64 Thu 23-Dec-21 18:41:50

Why are you minimising the abuse this horse was subjected to Trisha? You oppose hunting, so do the majority. I strongly oppose cruelty to animals. I saw you dismissed the comparison I made between people who abuse animals and the other types of abuse those individuals often perpetrate.

I know nothing if this woman’s work in education. I’m absolutely clear it was right, that after due process, she lost her job. There will be an appeals tribunal available to her. Good luck with that one.

MissAdventure Thu 23-Dec-21 18:36:13

Really?
That's interesting.
We should try a guess the star sign thread, but I'm thinking it may not end well. smile

I guessed as much, so is my DD

FannyCornforth Thu 23-Dec-21 18:31:20

It is utterly, totally ludicrous to equate the two.
Trisher you do seem to be quite the contrarian

Curlywhirly Thu 23-Dec-21 18:00:31

A boxing match between two consenting adults is absolutely nothing like a human slapping and kicking a defenceless animal - the comparison is in my opinion, ridiculous. An adult setting about a defenceless child is more of a true comparison.

FannyCornforth Thu 23-Dec-21 17:59:00

It’s horrible isn’t it MayBee sad

MayBee70 Thu 23-Dec-21 15:41:43

I’ve just watched it for the first time and I have to admit it was truly awful.

Kate1949 Thu 23-Dec-21 14:11:51

I'm not particularly an animal lover. We've never had any here apart from a hamster when our daughter was small. However, to see any living creature being harmed whilst defenceless is upsetting.

Kate1949 Thu 23-Dec-21 14:04:18

Boxers are in the ring voluntarily and are able to punch back. Horses held by the reins whilst being punched in the face and kicked have no chance.

trisher Thu 23-Dec-21 13:58:26

Blondiescot

Trisher, you are automatically assuming that those of us who think it is wrong to slap and punch a horse would condone boxing. There is no comparison whatsoever between someone being deliberately cruel to an animal and two consenting adults choosing to compete in a boxing ring. And you really wouldn't care what teachers get up to in their own time - even if it happened to something which was technically legal, but morally or ethically questionable?

I said some people Blondiescot those people have posted on this thread, there's nothing automatic about it.
As I said you are entirely welcome to think slapping a horse is wrong I happen to think punching another human being in the face purely for entertainement and profit is wrong. But I wouldn't regard either as making anyone unsuitable to teach.
Lots of things are morally unacceptable- like our PM. Morals are not fixed they vary with culture, background, social status and many other things. I've known teachers who were Creationists providing they kept their beliefs out of the classroom it didn't matter.

Chewbacca Thu 23-Dec-21 13:45:35

But she didn't just slap a horse did she trisher? You can't have even looked at the video footage of what she did if this is what youre minimising it to. She punched, slapped and kicked it whilst it was tied up and couldn't get away from her and they way it flinched as she approached it would indicate that it knew what was coming - i.e. this wasn't the first time she'd lost her shit with it. It's a pretty desperate clutching of straws to compare this act to those of 2 grown men willingly fighting in a boxing ring. Ridiculous!
