SIR Tony Blair ?

His Premiership saw our university system wrecked, his devolution is now threatening our United Kingdom, his secret mass immigration plans have brought divisions to our society, his wars were illegal and the infiltration of his left-wing supporters throughout our public bodies has triggered the woke insurrection that is ripping our history and culture to shreds. History will judge Blair to have caused untold damage to our country - he should not have been honoured - in my opinion.

How do you feel about it?

humptydumpty Sat 01-Jan-22 14:23:14

Yes, I feel he probably saved the royal family when the response to Diana's death was tone-deaf. Also he brought about the Good Friday agreement, which has probably save many lives - so although I agree about Iraq war he was by no means all bad.

Millie22 Sat 01-Jan-22 14:54:57

I'm sort of lost for words. Tony Blair is not deserving of any honour. He is responsible for the deaths of so many people because of the Iraq war. That completely overshadows his work to achieve the Good Friday agreement.

Didn't Thatcher give herself an hereditary peerage ? She wrecked British manufacturing and ruined social housing for a generation.

Jaberwok Sat 01-Jan-22 15:07:09

The RF were not tone deaf after the death of Diana particularly the Queen. Her first concern was for the welfare of her bereaved grandsons who were staying with her at Balmoral. Their welfare was far more important than the weeping and wailing and the somewhat hysterical reaction of certain of the general public, some of whom behaved as if this unfortunate, rather foolish woman was some kind of saint. Yes TB did navigate the Queen through this difficult time, but her first reaction was to protect her grandsons and stay with them, which of course was right and proper,

I would appreciate a link to the petition too.

I'd just like to answer some of the points Urmstongran makes in the OP.

His Premiership saw our university system wrecked I worked at universities long before Blair came to power and the rot set in before he came on the scene.

his devolution is now threatening our United Kingdom Those of us in the smaller countries of the UK think devolution was quite a good idea.

his secret mass immigration plans have brought divisions to our society There were no secret mass immigration plans and the only divisions are brought about by the people who don't like foreigners

woke insurrection that is ripping our history and culture to shreds. Its only people who think that woke is an insult that are ripping this country to shreds.

How do you feel about it? Let down by Blair, of whom I expected better. But at least he didn't ruin the country for future generations, encourage class division and make himself a lord, unlike some female Tory PMs I could mention.

vegansrock Sat 01-Jan-22 15:14:19

I worked in education and certainly those years did see a lot of money put into education and sports partnerships etc . All gone now.

grandMattie Sat 01-Jan-22 15:14:31

Just to hear his voice makes me want to throw up ? !
KG is perhaps a medal too far in my opinion. Why should PMs deserve knighthoods, any more than some rich geezer who paid for electoral advertising, or some actor who’s quite good at their job?
IMHO the unsung heroes are the ones deserving gongs!

vegansrock Sat 01-Jan-22 15:18:07

The whole honours system is a relic of the past.

M0nica Sat 01-Jan-22 15:20:49

On the basis of the standards laid out here, I doubt anyone at any level who has received an honour, no matter how minor, would have justified receiving it if their lives had been properly scrutinised.

I am sure those two young boys who received the lowest level of honour, would, if their lives were put under a microscope be found to be wanting.

Chewbacca Sat 01-Jan-22 15:44:31

He served as PM for several years and is therefore entitled to be recognised

Good grief if that's the benchmark for awarding a peerage we can all look forward to a Sir Boris at some point then. shock

I disagree Algerias. He did oversee secret mass immigration and as one of his ministers, I believe, stated ‘we wanted to rub the right’s nose in it’. Didn’t give a fig about towns altered and communities wrecked by the sudden influx of non English speaking newcomers. It was the poor working classes that had their noses rubbed in it. I doubt Brexit would have happened if it wasn’t for him. I detest the man.

You might well be correct, but it was not making her popular.

jacksmum Sat 01-Jan-22 15:49:49

Disgusted is the polite word for how i feel about him getting any award, he sent our troops to wars they should never have been involved in ,and mine and many families are still dealing with the consequences of his actions, i bet he sleeps well at night ,when so many he ordered to go to war ,and their families struggle still every day.

M0nica Sat 01-Jan-22 15:52:40

illovecheese there is more to life than being popular and the Queen putting the welfare of her grandchildren ahead of her popularity, has, actually, in the long-term added to the esteem she is generally held in.

Secret mass immigration?

So I googled that phrase. It was used by the Mail, the Express, Migration Watch, the Occidental Observer (confused) and a lovely site run by the British Democrats, who seem to believe in the Great Replacement.

Let's just say I'm not convinced. I was "poor working class", as you so delightfully put it. My nose wasn't rubbed in anything.

Forsythia Sat 01-Jan-22 15:57:04

After 14 years of it being withheld, why now is the question everybody should be asking. What’s in it for those involved. Perhaps he has remembered a forgotten visit to Pizza Express in Woking………

Anniebach Sat 01-Jan-22 15:59:51

Yes devolution, Wales no longer a large county of England .

Blair the only Labour leader to win three consecutive general
elections, after 18 years of Thatcher and co.

JaneJudge Sat 01-Jan-22 16:03:36

what on earth is going on

Anniebach Sat 01-Jan-22 16:07:29

Read the O/P

tickingbird Sat 01-Jan-22 16:09:03

So was I Algerias so that’s not the clincher you think it is. They attempted to socially engineer the population in order to keep Labour in power. Blair may have done some good stuff but he wrecked communities up and down the country. Slippery snake oil salesman. He and his wife are money grubbing charlatans.

Google Andrew Neather and rubbing the rights noses in it. You will see you are incorrect.

Really? I’m shocked!!

Forsythia Sat 01-Jan-22 16:11:08

Andrew Neather worked with Blair and Blunkett.

Pepper59 Sat 01-Jan-22 16:11:21

Disgusted, mind you the whole farce of the 'Honours ' should be abolished. It is utterly meaningless.
