And if you are not keen on free markets and small state then you need to watch your back if Sunak gets the leadership.
Austerity will be back with a vengeance
Do you think that free-market ideology in its purest form is understood by most people?
We are already going down that route - the 'Americanisation' of our political system and its culture started some time ago.
Small-State is not going to benefit anyone who is just about managing, or sick/ disabled / old.
Many don't understand how an economy functions - hence the grudging acceptance of Austerity. Governments make choices about spending based purely on its ideology. Austerity was not necessary and, in spite of the pandemic, it's not necessary now. The Loan from the BoE can be extended indefinitely (and with lower interest rates - interest which is paid back to the government anyway). But it will be imposed on us if Sunak becomes PM.
If only people would take the time to research, study and understand... but they won't. And RW governments know that and know how to manipulate us, how to divide us, so instead of holding them accountable, we endlessly blame each other for 'what's wrong with society'.
I find it all very depressing...
They’re already ‘consulting’ on more draconian cuts to disability benefits that will see most of the benefits the sick and disabled rely on being means tested to the bone. Support benefits like Personal Independence Payment, and therefore the Motability service, which underpins independence for millions, will disappear into Universal Credit and so not available to anyone disabled unless they qualify for UC. It’s being done very quietly and they’re looking at modelling things on systems used by Australia and Switzerland - notoriously austere policies. At the moment it’s a consultation, but next year it will be a green paper and if the proposals become law, all of this will start to be implemented in 2027.
