Can we all give up on the mudslinging & carefully dripped information from Cummings, vile desperate for revenge man, & try living what is left of the lives some of us have! Very fed up with so many posts wanting Boris gone! I am not a Tory nor a Labour supporter. I find Starmer as repulsive & ridiculous as Boris & 99% of all politicians past & present! Boris was slung in at the deep end when the pandemic hit & tried his best! Cannot see anyone else who would have bumbled on rather than running away! This is all in the past now & unless we find a DeLorean will not be altered! So can we just be thankful that we are here & stop this as it only causes friction on a site that I come to listen to other than he did/she said etc! Waiting for the mudslinging my way now but I will not click on any more threads like this as I have too much else to worry about ok?

I think the parties were a serious breach during lockdown. However, the witch-hunt being conducted by the press and the media are even worse. They are trying to being down the elected Prime Minister by riling everyone up in any way possible. Certain elements would love to have a 'Remainer' prime minister so that they can then return to Europe. There is a war with Russia brewing in the Ukraine and potentially involving our troops and the rest of the World and all the TV can go on about are parties which may or may not knowlingly have been had a year ago. I find it extraordinary that we are not hearing the actual news, just manufactured hysteria when so many other serious subjects should be discussed. The media is dangerous.

Following on.....Keir Starmer was pictured swigging beer but you don't hear that being mentioned. Also a labour MP was paid £££ by a Chinese spy but you don't hear about that either.

Beanie654321 Wed 26-Jan-22 13:41:21

I like many have missed so much. I couldn't be with my sister nor say good bye as she lost her life to MND. My DH couldn't visit his brother, who spent 16 weeks in hospital as they couldn't get a care package in place so he could die at home, no visitors allowed, he die in hospital. We couldn't celebrate our Ruby Wedding with our loving family. We couldn't see our grandchildren for well over a year.
Boris Johnson has lied and partied throughput and I'm getting so fed up with people saying he did a good job. We have lost so many family, friends and colleagues. So much public money has been wasted and so many of their friends have benefitted whilst others have lost so much. Boris goes on about how he sorted out the vaccination program, no he didn't the NHS did.
I'm just so fed up of life as we know it at present.

You hear it mentioned all the time. But none of it was illegal which is why none of it sticks.

You do understand that the alcohol is not the problem?

leeds22 Wed 26-Jan-22 14:04:28

For DH’s last birthday we sat on a bench outside our favourite (lockdowned) restaurant, eating a sandwich, just the two of us. Sick of hearing about no10 parties, wish he would just go.

CatterySlave1 Wed 26-Jan-22 14:06:22

Frankly if he’d have mandated a zero tolerance policy from the beginning then these matters wouldn’t have happened but Boris encouraged them by his attendance, however briefly, and allowing alcohol and obvious relaxation & chatting times at the end of meetings. This wasn’t a cuppa and your own lunch eating at your own desk 2m apart in the office like many endured! This behaviour has caused him to allow the Government to be in this situation. Him personally. He knew it was against his own laws for singing as it had been banned (as could project the virus) yet he allowed people to sing him happy birthday instead of immediately halting it, he also knew that gatherings of over 6 people were banned so 30 people gathered to wish him happy birthday were illegal, as were taking people upstairs to his private apartment to continue. He knew all that and still allowed ordinary people to be fined for similar gatherings of up to £10,000. Totally hypocritical!! His own morals should see him resign but I’m sure he won’t. However at the very least people involved should be fined for breaking the law that governed ALL of the UK at that time and, unlike the Vatican, Downing Street IS very much part of the UK and subject to the same laws that his own Government introduced.

Breaking news of yet another lie by Johnson.

Johnson personally authorised giving priority to the evacuation of Pen Farthing's animals from Afghanistan despite having publicly denied this.

The man needs help.......and not from anyone in the House of Commons.

He opens his mouth, he lies….

Gillycats

I am in awe of so many people getting their knickers in a twist about the party fiasco. Personally I don’t care. I do care about potential war, the economy, crime, social care, education and the NHS. Or haven’t people noticed that there are much more serious issues to be concerned with? Time to move on and let the police and the enquiry to deal with something that many people were guilty of too.

I totally agree with you Gillycats. There are far more important issues to be concerned about. Russia and the Ukraine, the rise in NI, fuel costs rocketing and other cost of living rises, etc etc These 'parties' (not what I would call a party) which breached the rules were over a year ago and are being investigated. I cannot believe the uproar on here. Let's move on and let the government put their energies into more serious matters.

I agree with these two posts. I'd rather the government focused their time and energy on these very important issues than having to waste time defending themselves about parties.

I also think the media are engaged in a witch hunt where information is being released to them by Cummings & Co to bring down the government. Judging by the public outcry here and elsewhere this has worked. People are being manipulated but can't see it.

sillynanny. “ I find Starmer as repulsive & ridiculous ”

How is he either of these things? Anything to back that up ?

Yes you do but no rules were broken if you check the story about the beer ….

Esspee Wed 26-Jan-22 14:13:41

Nobody is manipulating me Chestnut. I don’t care what eventually gets rid of him. I just want the lying toad out.

Casdon Wed 26-Jan-22 14:20:37

Oh dear Chestnut. If the government didn’t want to waste time defending themselves against parties they shouldn’t have condoned or attended illegal parties and lied about it, should they? They broke the law they had set, that is the issue. There is masses of visual and written evidence. It’s been referred to the police. The public isn’t stupid when presented with incontrovertible evidence. It’s not those who can see that who are being manipulated.

Ramblingrose22 Wed 26-Jan-22 14:22:45

Sillynanny321 - the breaking news I posted about had nothing to do with Cummings. I am sure you must realise that when people believe they have been lied to they get angry, and when they get angry mud is often slung.

You will have seen from this thread alone that many people have sacrificed attending or organising milestone celebrations because they obeyed the rules. They have every right to be angry when they see the hypocrisy of those who imposed the rules repeatedly flouting them.

Sillynanny321 - with the best will in the world, many topics discussed inthe News and politics forum generates strong feelings so if you don't like mudslinging it might be best to avoid this thread. The House of Commons has become a nest of vipers, with certain MPs preferring to use it for campaigning and slinging personal abuse at others who disagree with them rather than providing reasons for supporting serious policy proposals and new legislation.

Let's not be misled by the suggestions about Johnson being ambushed or ambushed by cake. I've read that Johnson's wife organised the birthday cake "gathering". Can someone explain why would she ambush him? It just shows she didn't think about or understand the rules.

This is more serious than birthday cake. And let's not forget that it all kicked off with Johnson thinking he could single-handedly to change the rules about the conduct of MPs, which have always been handled by an independent process, just to get his mate Owen Paterson off the hook.

This episode shows the sort of person Johnson is and that he is totally unfit - IMHO - for public office.

Mummer Wed 26-Jan-22 14:23:18

Utterly sick in the true sense of the word. Perhaps it's the fact that 'er indoors was 100% confident that she could (and still can) do WHATEVER SHE WANTS and get away with it that's the most damning aspect of this one? Poor kids brought up in a conservative house......like being brainwashed to think a cult is a normal family?

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 26-Jan-22 14:25:23

Are you on something Mummer? I haven’t a clue what you mean.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 26-Jan-22 14:25:37

Birthday cake versus Russian boots encroaching on an independent European Country, I know which I am more concerned about…

partygate is subject to two separate investigations, if/when the results are published if PM is found guilty he should resign. No ifs or buts.

In the meantime the Government’s job is to run the U.K.

Why the attack on Starker then? Is that for balance? You are your own namesake

Fashionista1 Wed 26-Jan-22 14:26:30

Lucca I forgot swigging beer indoors with other people not from your household is OK , silly me I forgot that one

ajswan Wed 26-Jan-22 14:30:35

Okay how many people can say hand on heart that they didn’t break lockdown rules. What about all the thousands on protest marches, are they all going to traced and arrested, I think not. For goodness sake let’s concentrate on all the good he did. How many of you would be dead or in intensive care if he hadn’t launched a mass vaccination program. How many businesses would have gone under with huge job losses without the furlough scheme and the help businesses received.

halfpint1 Wed 26-Jan-22 14:31:28

I am wondering if the pm is all that is said about him how can he be trusted to handle the potential
Ukraine situation. A wise cool head is needed surely

Mummer, that was nasty, I think that SillyNanny321 proved her point and I totally agree with what she said.
BTW who is Starker

Alegrias1 Wed 26-Jan-22 14:37:03

Okay how many people can say hand on heart that they didn’t break lockdown rules.

Me.

Anybody else?

The good he did? The same good as every other leader in the free world, only most of them weren't having parties that were denied to the rest of us. You don't get brownie points for just doing what's expected of you. You do get criticism for just managing to scrape through with what's expected of you while ignoring your own rules.

Nannina Wed 26-Jan-22 14:39:43

Apologists for Boris say we don’t need the distraction of a leadership election when there are so many national and international issues the government need to address. After his behaviour I don’t trust a word Johnson says and have no faith in his government to deal with anything effectively. Still no action on the energy or cost of living crisis, broken manifesto promises such as no tax rises and maintaining the triple lock- all lies and ‘let them eat cake’ attitude. Surely he can’t survive on implementation of Furlough and vaccination rollout forever. If this is levelling up heaven help us
