Worth reading before making assumptions etc about the report.

MUMMER
As I have already stated my political views, why be so rude? I agree wholeheartedly that Johnson and his cronies need to be shown the door.
The point I was trying to make is there are problems facing us all in the world today, that by far outweigh what has happened inside Downing Street.

'Bonfire of EU rules' = Brits now can work the longest hours in Europe, eventually reaching the highest retirement age in Europe. Afterwards, they can bask in one of the lowest state pension rates in Europe.

Coastpath Wed 02-Feb-22 09:49:54

Of course should have read. 'is to be' and 'hide' and 'not as a Tory'.

Will try harder to get it right first time in future.

It appears Net Zero to be the post-pandemic smoke and mirrors to hid the many downsides of Brexit.

I am enjoying very much the idea that it is Net Zero that will mean 'He is unpopular now'. Not any of the other stuff then, but the Net Zero.

If Boris was Green then he wouldn't be allowing his MPs to vote wholesale for flushing sewage into our waterways.

From everything I read and hear Boris was voted in as a Tory but as a Brexit machine.

Alegrias1 Wed 02-Feb-22 09:30:54

Urmstongran, what are you talking about? If it was later in the day I'd wonder if you had been imbibing.

Is this a PPB for Frost or maybe an anti-Green rant? Start a new thread.

Urmstongran Wed 02-Feb-22 09:27:31

True Alegrias in some sense but Boris was voted in as a Tory, not a Green candidate. He’s switched horses mid term. He won’t be popular now.

I mean, is he tone deaf? What an earth was the point in Brexit if not to pull away and plough our own furrow! Net zero lunacy will bankrupt us all…all for what?

The UK produces a mere 1% of global carbon emissions and if we cut to 0% our efforts will be meaningless as the Chinese surge ahead building a new coal fired power station every week! It beggars belief what an utter idiot this PM has turned out to be. We need an adult like Frost to run the country and save us all from Downing Street idiocy.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 02-Feb-22 09:11:58

Bit of fevered imagination maybe from a very blinkered right winger?

Alegrias1 Wed 02-Feb-22 09:08:03

Lucca

I am A bit lost on the last two posts. Feeling dense this morning can anyone explain in easy terms ?

I've no idea where this all came from Lucca but if its true, and not just the imaginings of the fevered brain of a political commentator, then it means that the Tory Party wouldn't get rid of him for being a lying charlatan, but they would get rid of him for making policies that would help to avert the coming environmental disaster.

Which would tell you something about the Tory Party, wouldn't it?

Whitewavemark2 Wed 02-Feb-22 08:59:47

Tobias Ellwood sent in a letter

Urmstongran Wed 02-Feb-22 08:52:50

And that ladies and gentlemen is the end of Boris as PM.

vegansrock Wed 02-Feb-22 08:48:58

Getting rid of EU regulations so we can go lower is ideological - does anyone really want sewage in our waterways or bee killing pesticides???

Urmstongran Wed 02-Feb-22 08:46:43

Watering down the bonfire of EU rules post Brexit to align with net zero green emissions will bring Boris down. His colleagues hate his stance (blaming Carrie for undue influence) and in my opinion it will be this that generates letters to Graham Brady and not ‘Partygate’ per se. I don’t think Boris will survive now. His refutation of some of Lord Frost’s proposals have done for him.

Tom Tugendhat says he’ll stand when Johnson steps down. I’m no Tory but he’d be a much better PM

Agree.

Marjgran Wed 02-Feb-22 08:38:23

Mcbab- it was against the rules to have a gathering - the words do matter but not in the way you say. These were unnecessary unlawful gatherings

Alegrias1 Wed 02-Feb-22 08:18:17

The are 360 Tory MPs in parliament. Are we seriously saying none of them would be a better leader than Johnson? Larry the cat would do better.

CvD66 Wed 02-Feb-22 08:12:25

Marjgran totally agree. However there is no suitable replacement that in any way appeals to the public - Truss and Sunak are not suitable at all - so where do they turn. No real grounds for keeping him but definitely a stumbling block to him going? Sacrifice all standards of decency and honesty instead seems to be the party line.

Iam64 Wed 02-Feb-22 07:52:31

McCabe - where in any other work place employing public servants would you find drink fridges, suitcases full of booze being wheeled in?
It’s clearly a culture in Downing Street. The ceo of any organisation sets the culture. Mr Johnson needs to go.

Casdon Wed 02-Feb-22 07:39:45

An Abba themed event in your flat is definitely a party though, unless you have employed Benny and Bjorn to provide the UK with PPE perhaps, them being experts in that field of course.

Mcbab Wed 02-Feb-22 07:31:29

Words matter. The word ‘party’ doesn’t appear at all in the report. Media are being totally misleading by the way they keep using the word ‘party’. A drink after work in the workplace does not constitute a party in my world.

The Times are studiously not paying much attention to the attempt at being a statesman. Too little, too late

madeleine45 Wed 02-Feb-22 06:39:20

How glad Boorish must have been to have the excuse to go to Kiev and pretend that he was some sort of statesman being involved in Putin etc. But whatever he said is totally worthless. Once you are proved a liar and a cheat your word is no longer your bond. Therefore he is totally useless to lead this country as nothing he says can be trusted or relied on.

This reminds me of "Dallas".
Sue-Ellen with her lips all a quiver, and instead of J.R we have B,J and a murder weapon.

"if a man is in a locked room with a dead body, and has a knife in his hand which matches the wound, there’s pretty good chance that he is responsible."

I can think of at least two scenarios where he is not guilty!
