It has always annoyed me that there is no long term planning. Over 50 years ago I went to stockholm in january. We were lent a wooden bungalow to stay in for a couple of weeks. I was rather worried when we arrived to find there was only one small electric heater for the total building. However the whole building was extremely well insulated had triple glazing that not only was as it says triple but the space between the glass was quite large. This meant that you not only kept the heat in but there was very little outside sound either. It was fantastic. When I was back in England over the years I tried to get builders to make houses to this level and all you got was that well the other builders wouldnt do it so they wouldnt make money. What drives me mad now is this government are wittering on about electric cards and wind turbines etc. All good in themselves but if there had been a law that any new buildings had to be to this specification, or no planning permission would be given. That would have provided a level playing field we would have been already saving huge amounts of energy and as a side effect there would be less neighbour disputes with noise levels. But as governments have to be reelected they just do not look at long term good plans that may need to be persuasive over a longer time, to encourage people to see the benefits, dont get short term votes and so once again it seems to me to be a male thing too. The wish for immediate or short term gratification compared to a more long term view of life. Any mother running a family will be used to considering which is the better value , such as on a simple level if you have 3 boys 2 years apart, you may buy slightly more expensive jackets as you see them being used by all three children etc. Or if your child is in a class where there are some children going off with measles or chicken pox , you consider all possibilities so do you isolate totally, do you think it is too late, if one child has it would it be better to let them all get it. We use our brains, consider the benefits for everyone short and long term and make our decisions accordingly. I have been a recycler and saved and shared things and made compost etc etc all my life and when I see the waste of money and efforts and the refusal to consider things properly and look at the likely results before spending hard earned money on useless things like track and trace that does not work!! I could have done better that Boorish Johnson with one hand tied behind my back. For a start I am honest, dont lie, and try to think of the wider situation. I could have used the money he wasted on track and trace, and decorating his flat and the rest of his dishonest sleazy deals, put it towards electricity prices or supporting food banks etc. I have lived abroad in various countries and whatever else the BBC world service was trusted to tell the truth and we were seen as honourable people on the whole. during a revolution I was told that the people trusted the word of the world service rather than their own radio link. Now with the Boorish Johnson showing his despicable attitude and cronys and untrustworthy behaviour what is does Britain look like now to other countries?
