watched her complain in the House with amazement! So the queues and traffic disaster in Kent is not due to Brexit, but red tape enforced by the EU. Just could not make it up - Johnson at least can organise a p*ss up! (and what an unfortunate name!).

The red tape causing the queues and so much more are entirely due to the red tape caused by the Brexit she and Johnson and co negotiated and signed!!! What can they do unilaterally to solve this?

Am I missing something here?
What name and why is it unfortunate?

Well, if you can't see it- it is not important.

Back to the main point of my post. Are the queues and retape in Kent due to Brexit, or not?

Kali2 Wed 09-Feb-22 21:49:39

red-tape ...

No - explain please.

Can anybody else perhaps enlighten me? confusedconfused

About whether queues and red tape in Kent are due to Brexit or not? I am sure you can work it out, like the little red hen, all by yourself.

MayBeMaw Wed 09-Feb-22 21:58:46

confused It’s this name business- something lost in translation perhaps?

Kali2 Wed 09-Feb-22 21:59:44

Of no importance whatsoever. Back to the main question. What is your answer.

Might I suggest Natalie Elle Thick?

MayBeMaw Wed 09-Feb-22 22:03:31

Tenuous.
Not sure that’s what OP is getting at.

Not sure that’s what OP is getting at.

What the OP is 'getting at' with regard to the name is irrelevant.

What is relevant is that lorry drivers have been told that a 4 hour wait for clearance at Dover (if they ever get the procedure properly sorted, that is) will be normal and Elphicke is blaming the EU for the big increase in paperwork.

I'm old enough to remember when we were in the EU and there wasn't any paperwork involved. Lorries just went through to the ferries with no checks (apart from passport & booking, I assume)

Perhaps someone needs to explain to Ms Elphicke why the paperwork has suddenly materialised.

It's somewhat on a par with Nadine Dorries thinking it unfair that we would no longer have MEPs when we left the EU.

The OP said words to that effect at 21.26. Perhaps you didn't notice...

More interested in picking fault with the OP than discussing things that happened at PMQT today #nochangetherethen

Callistemon21 Wed 09-Feb-22 23:33:51

But if it's irrelevant why mention it in the OP?

I didn't get it either. Still not sure confused
People can help their actions but no-one can help their names.
It it is not important.
But an unnecessary distraction.

There could be Gransnetters with the surname Elphicke.

Yes, it is an unnecessary distraction from important questions.

Probably the same reason that everything involves huge amounts of red tape now. there seems to be a general trend towards making life compilated with as many rules and regulation as possible, naturally this involves many more forms. For everything.

I doubt whether many GNs have the name as it is very unusual. It is a very old Anglo Saxon name bestowed in honour of St. Alphege, Archbishop of Canterbury. I agree it is unimportant and we wouldn't want to go down the ScoobyDo route arguing over a triviality!

But now the thread is going to be all about whether the OP should have made any reference to the name, rather than possible answers to the question. The OP does seem to have got an unnecessary roasting?

Well observed, Marsha.

It is deliberate.

kittylester Thu 10-Feb-22 07:56:59

Well, the op confused me too, for what it's worth!!

And, can we drop the Brexit posts. It's over.

Hetty58 Thu 10-Feb-22 07:57:39

Kali2, there are worldwide problems with manufacture, supplies and distribution - due to the worldwide pandemic - e.g. shortage of staff and containers in China (with lockdowns).

This serious, yet temporary situation far outweighs any hiccups caused by red tape and/or Brexit. (Of course, some people on here have permanent bees in their bonnets - about Brexit being the root of all evil!)

Josieann Thu 10-Feb-22 07:58:37

NB my reply was to Callistemon, using the plural personal pronoun "we". I didn't think anyone else would have a clue what we were referring to! It sometimes happens like that on GN.
Apologies to Kali. Back to business with the topic then.
