Liz Truss and a car crash

Liz Truss took herself and her new voice off to Moscow, to tell those Ruskies what was what.

If it was possible she made a worse fist of the visit then Johnson has done on his most embarrassing trip.

First she talked over the translators and had to be told to keep quiet, then mistook an area of Russia for the Ukraine.

At the press conference the Russian foreign minister Lavrov, made it absolutely clear that he was totally unimpressed with Truss by mocking and humiliating the U.K. and at the end walked off the stage without waiting for her.

It was truly, truly dreadful.

Still lots of photo opportunities for her new hat and coat and Truss looking into the distance outside of the Kremlin.
I just hope her expenses bill isn’t too much.

The photo-op with her Russian-style garb was oh so predictable, and as for her stern face!

Whitewavemark2 Thu 10-Feb-22 16:21:51

At the press conference

The Russian Foreign Minister says talks with Liz Truss were like 'talking to a deaf person who listens but cannot hear.'

We are a global laughing stock. There's no competence in Johnson's Cabinet.

Dinahmo Thu 10-Feb-22 16:23:59

And she obviously thinks she's wonderful and going to be a future PM. Fat chance, I hope.

A Foreign Minister who is not too hot at geography and she has aspirations for No 10. Where will it end?

Rosalyn69 Thu 10-Feb-22 16:38:22

shakes head

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 10-Feb-22 16:43:29

I despair.

Truss thought she could look like a stateswoman & reprise her pound shop Thatcher impersonation to impress the base back home. She got humiliated. It’s the arrogance of thinking that gangsters like Lavrov & Putin wouldn’t know exactly what she was playing at that’s most pathetic.

Daisymae Thu 10-Feb-22 16:50:10

I did wonder what sort of hash she would make of things. Why can't they either find some grown ups or at least someone who can research and take advice?

Riverwalk Thu 10-Feb-22 16:56:01

What do we expect when we've had ministers who didn't know that NI voting was on sectarian lines; the significance of Dover regarding imports/exports; and someone who was sacked by Theresa May became Education Secretary!

Whitewavemark2 Thu 10-Feb-22 17:01:34

Channeling her inner Thatcher. Apparently it is unseasonably warm in Moscow. The thought is that she must have been absolutely boiling.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 10-Feb-22 17:04:58

Well, the more I read the worse it gets. If I was Truss I wouldn’t show my face again for months and months.

Yammy Thu 10-Feb-22 17:15:52

I thought she was doing a Julie Christie impersonation from Dr Zhivago., Only she wasn't sexy and sultry and didn't wow her man.
As I said the other day a foreign secretary who doesn't know her Geography, doesn't know her Baltics from her Balkans. Though she certainly knows how to do a bal......up.hmm

varian Thu 10-Feb-22 19:20:50

Be fair , she's only the second worst Foreign Secretary we've ever had.

Hetty58 Thu 10-Feb-22 19:26:09

So embarrassed to be British lately - with a clown for PM and a stupid foreign Secretary, we must be a complete laughing stock to the rest of the world.

OnwardandUpward Thu 10-Feb-22 19:29:17

Oh dear.........................

I'm lost for words!!!!

mokryna Thu 10-Feb-22 19:32:20

? varian.

Too true and so sad.

Embarrassing neither should try, all they’d want is to ‘ramp up’ the situation while everyone one else is trying to keep calm.

MayBee70 Thu 10-Feb-22 19:53:09

This is what happens when a party gets rid of anyone who might potentially be a threat to the PM. Even though we now have a situation where second rate politicians like her are actually threatening their leader.

vegansrock Thu 10-Feb-22 21:29:35

Cringeworthy. I wonder if she took some cheddar as a gift.

MayBee70 Fri 11-Feb-22 01:58:13

Why is Johnson talking as if he’s coordinating the whole of Europes response to this?

FannyCornforth Fri 11-Feb-22 06:08:20

What an idiot.
I remember when I thought that Jacquie Smith was the worst ever Foreign Secretary.
Oh for those days…

Meanwhile, on a more serious note; spoon botherer Uri Geller is urging us all to send positive vibes to Putin in order to ward off WW3.

The idea is for us all to ‘tickle a sickle’ (yes, really) at several auspicious times of day, including 11.11am

FannyCornforth Fri 11-Feb-22 06:10:10

Here you go

I have just seen an item on the ITV News on this and their opinion is that her Russian counterpart was being exceptionally misogynistic and rude.

He is renowned for it, so all the more reason for Truss to have been totally prepared and on top of her brief. Instead she showed herself up for the ignoramus she is.

Other politicians and diplomats from the USA under Obama knew what he was like and so although he was rude they showed that they knew what they were talking about, and got what they wanted.
