Liz Truss and a car crash

Liz Truss took herself and her new voice off to Moscow, to tell those Ruskies what was what.

If it was possible she made a worse fist of the visit then Johnson has done on his most embarrassing trip.

First she talked over the translators and had to be told to keep quiet, then mistook an area of Russia for the Ukraine.

At the press conference the Russian foreign minister Lavrov, made it absolutely clear that he was totally unimpressed with Truss by mocking and humiliating the U.K. and at the end walked off the stage without waiting for her.

It was truly, truly dreadful.

Still lots of photo opportunities for her new hat and coat and Truss looking into the distance outside of the Kremlin.
I just hope her expenses bill isn’t too much.

Did she use the private jet or did Johnson or whoever it was that went to Brussels?
Plus, if this government really want to get strict with Russia why don’t they clamp down on Putin’s oligarchs who use London property to launder money????

This.

Until we stop the money laundering and actively seek an alternative to Nordstream it will continue.

Don’t despair Luckygirl we thought that about the north Shropshire seat, and are patiently holding on in the hope of ousting our useless Shropshire right wing MP too. Problem is 2 years is a long time and I am scared of what damage these incompetents will have wreaked in the meantime.
It’s time to let the grown ups take charge.

Because they're generous donors to the Tory Party.

Even give them knighthoods too….

Labour calls on Tories to return money from donors linked to Russia - David Lammy and Rachel Reeves say £1.93m came from donors trading in Russia or with alleged links to Putin

If ever anyone was promoted beyond their abilities it's Liz Truss. i would suggest organising a jumble sale for the local preschool would be a better fit. And she might need help with that!

varian Fri 11-Feb-22 18:08:34

Be fair Deedaa she's very loyal to Johnson and that's the only qualification required.

Oldbat1 Fri 11-Feb-22 18:27:49

Is Liz Truss really the best the uk can come up with? I really despair. I’ve also read she is a future PM hopeful - OMG. We are a laughing stock. Johnson was a disaster when he held the post.

CvD66 Fri 11-Feb-22 18:41:20

Whatever happened to the legislation she was supposed to get passed in parliament pre her visit to give her the 'big guns' to threaten these guys?? Did someone realise the Tories Russian buddies would get upset? Instead we make ourselves a complete laughing stock on the international scene! And to think, if Johnson is finally booted out, the choice is Truss or Sunak. There is no hope for us all.

I have just seen an item on the ITV News on this and their opinion is that her Russian counterpart was being exceptionally misogynistic and rude.

The guy has form GG13 as outlined by Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. (Glad it wasn’t Trump that would never had impressed some!). Known as Mr. Nyet (No) by diplomats to Russia.

I’m not sure what is more worrying, that the anti-Brexiters and Communist sympathisers fell for Lavrov’s lines, hook line and sinker – or that they were aware of what they were doing, and did it anyway?

Whatever happened to Brexit being a Russian plot?

I appreciate that this conspiracy theory has been debunked by every investigation that has been carried out into it – but isn’t it telling that these Remainers don’t seem to mind Russian interference in Western democracies provided that they agree with it!

CvD66 Fri 11-Feb-22 19:12:39

GG13 & Urmstongran Show me a Foreign Secretary of any other country who is not aware that you DO NOT speak when the translators are doing their job? She made an absolute fool of herself! Is there no advice for simple souls like Truss on how work with translators or perhaps she didn't read it? Sadly it wasn't that she walked into the traps of that so-called nasty bully - she didn't know what she was doing. Come on UK - get a grip.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 12-Feb-22 06:14:36

Truss of course fancies herself as the next leader, as do Sunak and Hunt.

Between them they have received over £78k from Russian donors.

Why?

Whitewavemark2 Sat 12-Feb-22 06:24:18

Her inner Thatcher?????

Allsorts Sat 12-Feb-22 07:04:58

Of course everything Russia do and comment on is fact. A role model to the world. Where would you rather live? It is truly unbelievable some of the misinformation on here.

What misinformation is that?

Dinahmo Sat 12-Feb-22 09:49:54

Sorry Urmstongran I just don't understand your statement. What do you mean? Of course I could be being particularly think this morning. Bad toothache messing with my head.

Kali2 Sun 13-Feb-22 17:29:14

Where is the report on Russian interferene in the Brexit Referendum?

vegansrock Sun 13-Feb-22 17:53:22

Russia is no longer run by the Communist Party - seems like some people don’t know that.

Re Lavrov being rude to Truss by leaving her standing, that was shown on BBC but I saw that incident on RT where there was a door behind him to his left which he went to and held open for her to go through.

I believe he has been in his post for almost 20 years and knows his stuff inside out, Truss was Trade Minister five minutes ago, he could have probably run rings around her even discussing pork sausages.

I think I would have been exasperated if a minister from another country was sent to waste my time.

varian Mon 14-Feb-22 18:32:21

Quite Aspen. Sending Liz Truss to Moscow was totally counter productive. The UK does not have a strong hand in negotiations but what little influence we might have had has been squandered by this silly woman.

Petera Tue 15-Feb-22 09:23:43

Does anyone- even the dyed-in-the-wool Tories here - think she is doing a good job?

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 15-Feb-22 09:36:31

No.

Grantanow Tue 15-Feb-22 12:23:08

Another hopeless Johnson appointee but what can you expect from a prize booby? She looked as though she was in training for a fashion shoot with that hat.

varian Tue 15-Feb-22 19:01:28

The very poor quality of current ministers is quite shocking.

The only qualification for becoming a minister of state is being blindly loyal to Boris Johnson.

As more and more MPs, more and more Tory MPs and even more and more Tory MPs with a brain and a conscience have recoiled from supporting Johnson, we are left with this rump of syciophants and so we end up with someone like Liz Tru.ss
