I’ve never quite worked out where Hislop stands politically; he made a tv programme with a politician (can’t remember who) which puzzled me a bit. Adam Hill and the guys from The Last Leg should be running the country imo. Pity about Hill being Australian though….

Whitewave, I also read a special forces type group charged by Putin with finding and killing Zelensky and his wife.

Listening to franceinfo a reporter was discussing the ‘Wagner group’ .

Is that the Putin who is hiding away from people because he’s germ phobic but is sending young boys out to fight his war for him ?

Most of us saw what he was like and never voted for him.

He was elected by the minority who either didn't know or chose to turn a blind eye, thanks to FPTP.

Shocking footage from Russia on BBC 6 O'clock news tonight, where citizens only get state TV, one older woman absolutely believed the propaganda that Russia isn't bombing any Ukrainian cities. One young teenage girl was having none of it, shown packing her bags ready to leave.

I've never been more impressed by a politician, Zelensky an absolute hero, a God among the other woeful world leaders. On a completely superficial note, he was also rated recently as having overtaken Justin Trudeau, yeah that doofus Canada's president, as the best looking leader.

I can’t bear to think about those ‘special’ (thugs) forces getting their hands on him or worse. Such leadership and bravery.

Neither can I, I'm so worried for him and his family.

The more I see and hear of him, that song "I need a hero, I'm holding out for a hero" starts playing out in my head. The others, just all rhetoric and hot air, he's putting his life on the line.

Not all of these "special forces" are still Putin followers.

I heard today of Russian soldier killed in combat (like how many more??)

His mobile phone showed a message he had sent to his mother just before he was killed. He said that they had been told they would be welcomed the Ukraine but it was not true. We were lied to Mum, he wrote, just before he died.

I saw that too, they're all being lied to and I'm sorry for those young men because they're just cannon fodder. I don't know whether they have conscription in Russia but I imagine Putin's sent in lots of the very young and inexperienced, not much more than boys, so my heart goes out to them too. I don't suppose many of them want to be waging this bloody awful war on innocent civilians, doing Putin's dirty work.

Varian. I also saw the article on the young soldier’s text messages to his mum. He was probably a conscript like the one shown on video being questioned by Ukrainian men after he’d been captured. He was young and terrified. They’re victims too but they aren’t Putin’s battle hardened special forces.

The president has been amazing TB. Everyday I get up I switch the news on and check he’s still there.

I put my iPad on to check if I dare watch the Sky news. It’s one of those times when, as you wake up in the morning, a feeling of dread washes over you.

Russia has conscription, but there are various ways (especially if you have money) of avoiding it.

Zelensky, what a lone beacon of integrity to highlight the pathetic, weak nature of many current politicians and what a counterpoint to the incompetent, lazy clowns who are in certain governments.

This isn’t being reported on the morning news programmes Whitewavemark2 has this been verified?

Oz Katerji is an independent journalist who has close contact with the Ukrainian government.

I will post as soon as I hear more, but quite frankly if it hasn’t happened yet it undoubtedly will.

Whitewavemark2 on that I can totally agree, I do hope that his wife and children are in a safe place.

Zelensky, what a lone beacon of integrity to highlight the pathetic, weak nature of many current politicians and what a counterpoint to the incompetent, lazy clowns who are in certain governments.

Zelensky is brave no doubt but he is going to loose this battle, all he can do is make it more difficult for Putin, the price is thousands of Ukrainian lives if Russia takes Kiev by force. He is in the position of France in 1940, a much stronger enemy on his doorstep.

I must re-listen, but at the start of the podcast Stuart and Campbell were talking about Putin’s character and how it has changed from when Campbell first met him in the 1990s before Putin became leader, then again in 2003 and now.

But it seems that I guess like all dictators he is only listening to his own reality.
