Absolute chaos!

From tomorrow a visa centre for Ukrainian refugees will be set up in Lille. It will be a ‘pop-up’. It will not offer appointments or walk-in access for those seeking to come to UK. The most vulnerable cases in Calais will be taken there for biometrics checks. The Home Office will NOT publicise its location and capacity will be small.
Anyone turning up at Calais will be told to go to Paris or Brussels to fill out the correct forms - if you can get an appointment
In Brussels, Ukrainians seeking UK visas will find the embassy has outsourced this work to a private company (a mate of a Tory MP??) and it closes at 3pm. First find it - it is at the back of the station!
Families with UK visa biometrics checks done in Rzeszów (Poland) are being told to travel 200 miles to Warsaw to collect their visas stamp for their passport.
Meanwhile Patel is contacting the Irish to oppose their refugee policy with the abject fear that some of those Ukranian refugees might make it to UK.
All this being allegedly to stop Russian terrorists entering UK. Don’t worry - such terrorists don’t need visas - they come in as tourists and do their worse - evidence Salisbury poisoning.
In the words of James O’Brien (LBC): you - the UK - voted for this and this government intends to make it as difficult as possible for ANY refugees to enter UK!

^I don't know if anyone managed to get money out of the countries where troubles were brewing legally, but obviously some must have done.^
Syntax!
I don't know if anyone managed to get money legally out of the countries where troubles were brewing

Well, according to the 1968 article, Asian families were taking an average of £5000 per family out of Kenya with them.

I believe it was Amin, 1971, who prevented any money leaving the country.

Zimbabwe is not Kenya so I don't see how that applies.

Callistemon21 Thu 10-Mar-22 11:36:12

Uganda isn't Kenya or Zimbabwe
confused

I thought we were discussing money being taken out of countries where trouble was brewing or from where people were expelled and the difficulties of accessing what was legally theirs, having to leave behind their businesses, their savings etc.

This is what a Tory MP thinks about giving refugees sanctuary. Its immoral.

Clearly isn't aware that you can actually get to Ukraine quite quickly, in normal times.

He's deleted the tweet, I think.

Callistemon21 Thu 10-Mar-22 11:49:22

Did someone hack him? That sounds very odd for someone who was born in Poland and is married to a Brazilian!!

volver Thu 10-Mar-22 11:58:10

I did wonder if it was a fake Callistemon. It came from Larry the Cat's twitter account though- usually reliable.

Callistemon21 Thu 10-Mar-22 12:08:25

It's not a fake apparently.

volver Thu 10-Mar-22 12:41:01

Thanks Callistemon, I can see its all over the press. Glad to see other Tories criticising him.

The DEC and many other U.K. based charities are supporting refugees in Poland and other Countries bordering Ukraine which is admirable.

I just cannot understand why the U.K. Government cannot let those refugees who want to come to England, who have friends and families here, many speak who English travel here. Sort out the paperwork once they are here.

Is the government worried that they may want to stay once this awful conflict ends?

GrannyGravy13 Thu 10-Mar-22 12:52:18

Oops premature posting.

I think that this MP has form , he got Polish lessons on his expenses despite being fluent in Polish…

GrannyGravy13, I sent an email to me Conservative mp making the points you set out. I looked at his Facebook page just now, it’s full of people making the same point. He’s red wall, knows the constituency could return to Labour. He’s visible, hard working, moved his family from the leafy south to live here. He was good on the party issues and has been good so far on Ukraine - here’s hoping

Whitewavemark2 Thu 10-Mar-22 13:00:42

Listening to Rory Stuart.

His opinion is that the government is dragging its feet over the refugees, because they think that the majority of their voter base do not want them in the country.

Perhaps he is planning to go over to Poland to facilitate the processing of desperate refugees trying to get to family in the UK.

Callistemon21 Thu 10-Mar-22 13:04:31

I emailed my MP too.
He is full of platitudes saying that they are going to ensure that Ukrainian refugees are able to come to the UK.

paddyann54 Thu 10-Mar-22 13:12:12

Pantglas you do realise that the Welsh government like the Scottish one has no say or control over refugees/asylum seekers Its all down to the "home" office at Westminster .Otherwise we would see many more Ukrainian people here now .This crisis like the ongoing ill treatment of asylum seekers ..aka potential terrorists by WM ..is entirely a Tory created issue .People die and WM wants formes signed by people who had to run for their lives.Makes my blood boil

paddyann54 Thu 10-Mar-22 13:16:21

GG13 Patel ...said that she thinks they'll be a "drain on us" as a lot of them will be widowed by the war ....so does she think we should leave the families in Ukraine to DIE to? She is a heartless selfserving excuse for a human being .Nothing worse than someone who gets help when they need it and then pulls the ladder up behind them denying the same for others.
I thought my hatred of the tories couldn't get worse....but it has soared over the past few days .

Callistemon21 Thu 10-Mar-22 13:27:33

That's the second time I've read that on here but can't find it anywhere else. Do you have a link, please, paddyann

Nothing worse than someone who gets help when they need it
I'm wondering about that statement too?

Not that I am in any way in agreement of Ms Patel and have emailed my MP about her stance in no uncertain terms.
However, such statements do need to have verification as they won't add to the argument if they are false.

There’s no point the FM inviting people to claim asylum in Wales (or any country within UK) and then treat them badly by keeping them in below standard accommodation for years which is what Drakeford has done.

Loudly proclaiming that he wants Wales to be a sanctuary for all and then quietly not coming up to scratch with the bare minimum in terms of your own home is sheer hypocrisy.

Handsome is as handsome does, NOT how handsome talks... whether it’s Labour or the Tories, Paddyann.

I think that it was Rachel Johnson who said that. Of course they may have both said it.

Casdon Thu 10-Mar-22 13:37:13

The responsibility for the housing of refugees is devolved to local authorities in Wales, it isn’t the direct responsibility of the Welsh Government to house them. I was involved in one of the schemes when I was still working, each LA is allocated a certain number of families. I suspect that you are referring to issues with local housing of refugees Pantglas2, because I know it has been very well handled by my local council (which is a different one to where I worked).

Pantglas2 Thu 10-Mar-22 13:47:26

I totally understand the points you make Casdon

However, I was trying to show that unless there is communication and joint action between our Leaders (Cardiff or London) and those responsible for the provision of what’s promised, whether by Tories or Labour, it turns into complete shambles for the very people they’re proclaiming to help!

Curlywhirly Thu 10-Mar-22 13:49:21

Just heard on ITV news - the visa process will change as from Tuesday - applicants who have family links here in the UK can apply online. They will then be emailed a 3 year visa. At last!!!

MaizieD Thu 10-Mar-22 13:51:17

^Uganda isn't Kenya or Zimbabwe*

Ooops blush

Early (for me) morning posting. For some strange reason I got my countries mixed up. Apologies, Callistemon

Callistemon21 Thu 10-Mar-22 14:27:08

It's ok!!

It's not as if you're the Foreign Secretary without a wall map.

Shandy57 Thu 10-Mar-22 18:45:17

Great news Curlywhirly, they've been shamed into doing something at last.

mokryna Thu 10-Mar-22 19:44:46

I went to my gym class today, I was ashamed when they spoke about the refugees’ problems trying to reunite with their families in the UK and BJ.
This afternoon Versailles is having a meeting with the EU ministers.
