Absolute chaos!

From tomorrow a visa centre for Ukrainian refugees will be set up in Lille. It will be a ‘pop-up’. It will not offer appointments or walk-in access for those seeking to come to UK. The most vulnerable cases in Calais will be taken there for biometrics checks. The Home Office will NOT publicise its location and capacity will be small.
Anyone turning up at Calais will be told to go to Paris or Brussels to fill out the correct forms - if you can get an appointment
In Brussels, Ukrainians seeking UK visas will find the embassy has outsourced this work to a private company (a mate of a Tory MP??) and it closes at 3pm. First find it - it is at the back of the station!
Families with UK visa biometrics checks done in Rzeszów (Poland) are being told to travel 200 miles to Warsaw to collect their visas stamp for their passport.
Meanwhile Patel is contacting the Irish to oppose their refugee policy with the abject fear that some of those Ukranian refugees might make it to UK.
All this being allegedly to stop Russian terrorists entering UK. Don’t worry - such terrorists don’t need visas - they come in as tourists and do their worse - evidence Salisbury poisoning.
In the words of James O’Brien (LBC): you - the UK - voted for this and this government intends to make it as difficult as possible for ANY refugees to enter UK!

Well, they showed the form on ITV which needs to be filled in online to ask for permission to come to the UK.

First - have access to the internet (not easy for refugees surely?)
Secondly- the kind of bureaucratic form which puts people already in the UK applying for Attendance Allowance, a Blue Badge etc.
Thirdly - is it even in Ukrainian or is it in English?

I'm beginning to think that P Patel has totally lost the plot.

Pantglas2 - I could have written your post just substituting the FM's name to Nicola Sturgeon. The Syrian refugees who came to Scotland are mainly still living in "hotels". I would, however, think that most refugees coming to Scotland would be accommodated and assisted by the large number of Polish, Latvian and Ukranian people who already live and work here.

Agreed Grayling Drakeford has a habit of promising the world and not delivering.

I could promise three Ukrainian families a sanctuary in lovely north Wales but they’d be housed in my sun house, the lean-to and Mr PGs man cave! You get my drift...

There is no plan to provide refugee accommodation for Ukrainians in the UK though is there? As it currently stands they are only allowed to come here if they have immediate family sponsors. So moaning about the perceived inadequacies of the Scottish or Welsh governments isn’t relevant as it’s a UK Government decision.

Pantglas2 Thu 10-Mar-22 22:03:08

Your Labour bias does you or your argument no credit Casdon - the inadequacies are of all administrations London and Cardiff and refusal to acknowledge that is the problem here.

There’s too much politicking and not enough performing at the highest level - people from the bottom up are busting a gut to get results for those who matter and those at the top simply want to score points.

Most of us can see through them.

I’m stating what I believe are the facts Pantglas2. Decisions to admit refugees to the UK are made by the UK government. The funding for housing refugees is devolved to councils. If you have gripes about the housing of refugees in the council area where you live you should take it up with your council - if you’re in a Labour run council area they are as culpable as any party if they aren’t meeting the requirement. Under the present agreement Ukrainian refugees will not be allocated housing.
