Nicola ... again. Shut up woman! Are you for real?

Joe Biden won’t. Boris Johnson won’t. Ben Wallace won’t. Nor will, as far as we know, every other leader of a Nato member country. However, it is clear that Nicola Sturgeon just might.

Might do what, you ask? Consider backing a Nato no-fly zone over Ukraine, that’s what. Even if such an action risked a major escalation of the West’s dispute with a nuclear-tipped Russia.

The First Minister thinks that having warplanes, including British ones, taking on, and possibly shooting down, Vladimir Putin’s planes is worth “serious consideration”.

It’s a truly astonishing suggestion that was being described by enemies and one-time supporters alike as another piece of grandstanding by someone who appears to be desperately seeking a niche for herself on the international stage.

What does Goady mean? Are Scots on grans net now using code?

GrannyGravy13 Fri 11-Mar-22 09:08:28

I have just had a quick Google of newspaper articles regarding Ms, Sturgeons statement.

There does not appear to be a lot of support for her point of view.

As has been stated by numerous Generals, war analysts, NATO and Heads of Governments that if the West /NATO bring in a no fly zone over Ukraine for it to work it would have to be policed, the first time a Russian plane entered the forbidden airspace it would be shot down. This would mean that us and our allies are at war with Russia.

If any of you are content with this scenario, then hats off to you as you are either incredibly brave or incredibly………………(feel free to fill in the blanks)

Esspee Fri 11-Mar-22 09:13:31

I have now reported the Original Post.

In the interest of balance if Mr.Johnson suggested this I would be screaming at the TV a lot worse than shut up man it would contain every swear word I could evoke and in all eventuality end up with me throwing something at the TV

The prospect of WW111 is just to awful to contemplate.

Petera

*Reuters, Mar 11* A source hiding behind the fake name Urmstongran has posted evidence on social media that Scotland’ s first minister, Nicola Sturgeon, was responsible for the outbreak of the Second World War: “I heard a drunk, mentally unstable man in a pub car park shout that Sturgeon fabricated the ‘peace in our time’ letter brandished by Chamberlain on his return from the Munich peace conference,” posted UG, “I have no reason to disbelieve this.”

The anonymous poster went on to write “If this is subsequently proven untrue I will just ignore it and swivel to the accusation that the very existence of a mentally unstable drunk man in Scotland shows Sturgeon’s lack of judgement over funding of mental health services and alcohol pricing. She’s the woman in charge, she is responsible for everything. God knows what would happen to these poor incompetent people if we English were gracious enough to grant Scotland its independence, we really need to look after them for their own good.”

Speculation continues to mount that Sturgeon has been personally responsible for every disaster to hit humankind. Anti-Sturgeon campaigners have pointed out that Ms Sturgeon is yet to deny any involvement in the crucifixion of Christ, and also that scientists have not yet proven she did not personally kill all the dinosaurs in the Cretaceous-Tertiary Mass Extinction.

Urmstongran was contacted for comment but was unfortunately too busy sticking pins into a small doll.

Very good, Petera ?

I am, frankly, surprised that anyone takes any post by the OP at all seriously.

Urmstongran Fri 11-Mar-22 09:17:39

If GNHQ take this post down it will be a shame.
An opinion is not bullying or toady just because it doesn’t chime with yours Espee.

Cancel culture at its best! Let’s not have a debate ... just shut it down eh? That’s best for some.

FannyCornforth Fri 11-Mar-22 09:18:11

Yanmy goad means to taunt or provoke, I don’t think that it’s a Scottish word.
As for anti-Scottish sentiment; how about the poster who called Ms Sturgeon a ‘Scottish Plonker’ ( plus the compulsory ?)?

Esspee why have you reported the opening post; is it because it’s inaccurate?

Urmstongran Fri 11-Mar-22 09:19:01

*goady (certainly not toady!)

TopsyIrene06 Fri 11-Mar-22 09:19:32

I do not vote SNP but strongly object to the rude and crass remarks made about Nicola Sturgeon. If it was meant to hurt, mission accomplished.

I wish Covid was over.

lavendermine Fri 11-Mar-22 09:20:28

This is quite typical of the OP - inaccurate information, false information, etc. we have seen it all.
You continually make yourself look foolish but I doubt that will make the slightest difference.

Aveline Fri 11-Mar-22 09:20:38

Oh well at least St Nicola has apologised retrospectively to witches.

volver Fri 11-Mar-22 09:21:24

The OP is a direct and unattributed Copy and Paste from the Daily Telegraph. I hope GNHQ do not delete this thread.

The posts following it disrespect a country’s elected parliament, marginalise the beliefs of many of the people of that country and suggest that the leader of that country is unfit to lead. There are suggestions that it isn’t a real country, its really just like a big city in a neighbouring, larger country. Implications are that the leader of the country is a sympathiser with foreign aggressors.

Already this week I’ve been on threads that accuse the Russians of being behind Scottish politics and there have been previous threads describing Sturgeon as a dictator and a sexually deviant Nazi (no, really).

Now if all these were the ramblings of a few bored Grans on a niche social media site, we could just dismiss it for the rubbish it is. But when the government-supporting national press are using fake news and unfounded character assassination to slur the leader of another country, you have to question that. It would be crass and inappropriate to compare the situation in the UK with what’s happening in Ukraine, but I’m sure there are lots of babushkas in Russia who think that Zelenskyy is a coke-snorting Nazi and the Ukrainians need rescuing from this evil man. Because the press told them so.

Criticise Sturgeon, by all means. Let’s have a thread about the Gender id bill, or the abolition of the SQA, or the use of vaccine passports. But allegations that she wore a red suit because somehow she supports Russia? Grow up.

Urmstongran Fri 11-Mar-22 09:21:52

FannyC that was a mild comment. Plonker as Del Boy used to say back in the day to Rodney! You know full well that Boris gets called far worse on these threads (sometimes deservedly I may say) yet I never report a post. Never have. Never will.

I applaud you GrannyGravy for daring to say such a thing on this site and I'm not being facetious. I could fill in the blanks with a few choice words.
St.Nichola has spoken and the S.N.P has risen to her standard yet again. A woman with no compunction about rising up against her former mentor and friend, how would she treat the Sasannachs across the Border.

Urmstongran Fri 11-Mar-22 09:24:51

Red suit & Russia ties? Now that would be plain daft!!
And I’ve never said any of the other things in your post volver.

I just think Nicola Sturgeon is stupid for even proposing a NFZ.

FannyCornforth Fri 11-Mar-22 09:25:19

It was the preface ‘Scottish’, as if the word Scottish is offensive. I was quoting Maudi, not you Urms

The Only Fools writer John Sullivan invented the word plonker.
He needed an alternative word for w*ker that he could use on prime time TV.

Here's the thing UG - its not all about you.

As we keep telling you.

Are you writing to Zelenskyy as well, to tell him he's stupid?

Josieann Fri 11-Mar-22 09:28:44

But allegations that she wore a red suit because somehow she supports Russia?
Excuse me?
Implying that you know what I was thinking Volver is completely erroneous too. My comment came after someone mentioning Wales, and I was actually thinking of a fiery red dragon, despite it being the wrong country analogy. And the clothes reference was from another thread, so keep up.

volver Fri 11-Mar-22 09:29:52

Yes, of course it was. hmm

vegansrock Fri 11-Mar-22 09:30:36

I don’t think she proposed a NFZ, the Ukrainians have asked for and she has said it could be considered. If you think of all the rubbish decisions made by the Westminster government lately which they actually have enacted, just getting your knickers in a twist about a statement she has no power to enact seems like grasping at any stick to beat Ms Sturgeon with.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 11-Mar-22 09:31:40

I can totally see why President Zelensky is asking for a no fly zone in his situation, he is not silly to to do so. He is a man who’s Country has been invaded and he is trying to do everything/anything he can to defeat his aggressor.

Unfortunately as has been said many many times over its not as easy as it appears, and the end game would be WW111…

Josieann Fri 11-Mar-22 09:31:48

Thank you.

Goodbyetoallthat Fri 11-Mar-22 09:33:13

Reading the title of the OPs thread rather gave the game away that they were not looking for a reasoned debate on the issue.
Shortbread Senate! Are the voters of Greater Manchester now going to be renamed the Eccles cake electorate?

FannyCornforth Fri 11-Mar-22 09:37:04

Shortbread Senate?
Is that a Littlejohn thing?
