What a surprise, Harry’s not coming.

So it seems that Prince Harry has decided to not attend his grandfather’s memorial service on 29th March at Westminster Abbey. I’m not surprised, are you?

maddyone Sat 12-Mar-22 10:26:03

Well I started the thread. I don’t care whether Harry attends his grandfather’s memorial or not, but maybe his grandmother would like him there. From my perspective the memorial will be better without Harry as the press would probably focus on him.
Also of interest is that it’s been reported that the Queen isn’t going to attend the Commonwealth service, which I believe is near to her heart. I think she’ll be very disappointed about that.
I speak as as neither a royalist nor a republican. I have a foot in both camps as I’ve said before, but these stories are in the news, and I and others have every right to be interested, to comment, and to discuss, or to just scroll on by.

Harry has painted himself into a corner - can't do right for doing wrong. Best to stay away I think overall. Well at least until she chucks him out.

If Harry had come, the tabloids would have had a field day. He’s not coming and they’re having a field day. Bear in mind that the memorial is mainly for those who couldn’t come to the funeral. I’m afraid I can see the Queen not attending that. She is missing the Commonwealth thing next week. Her father had a lot to do with the development of the Commonwealth and it’s always been something she has been very involved in. The Palace excuses are a bit odd and to do with her actually travelling to Westminster Abbey. Doesn’t she want to be seen hobbling around or having to be helped? We all know she’s nearly 96 and has started using a stick. Sadly, I can’t see being here at the end of the year.

The Guardian says that 'a legal representative' of Harry has said he and his family feel it is too dangerous to return to the UK. No idea how his action against the Home Office re police security is progressing but I assume it hasn't been concluded and so a statement like that is pretty inevitable to support his case.

Yes, they are using the press again

vegansrock Sat 12-Mar-22 10:50:26

And the readers lap it up

It is not safe for some people to use the London underground and buses, attend conferences at Fishmongers Hall, walk down a street in Woolwich, hold a MP's surgery, or attend a concert at the Manchester Arena.
Either an excuse to bolster his court case, or Harry is a coward; not really sure which.
Possibly both.

nadateturbe Sat 12-Mar-22 12:18:42

Am I surprised? Not really worth thinking about.

Caleo Sat 12-Mar-22 12:21:00

I imagine PH fwould prefer to not further damage the climate by flying to a ceremony about a dead relative.

And we all know how reliable a source is the Grauniad, the left's Daily Mail!

Hopefully he will do the right thing and come to visit his grandmother and pay tribute to his grandfather in his own way and in private while he still has the opportunity.

I wonder if he had this in mind when he travelled to Texas to a rodeo this week, a round trip of 3,000 miles, presumably by air, to watch animals performing and wear a cowboy hat. It’s all about priorities and his seem rather confused.

maddyone Sat 12-Mar-22 12:43:03

Maybe I’m wrong, but it would seem to me that his grandmother is not one of his priorities. Neither it would appear, is/was his grandfather.

Lucca Sat 12-Mar-22 12:47:20

We don't know what the reasons are, of course

Indeed.

That's too much, isn't it?

A coward? The man was a soldier. Reportedly a very good one.

You may not like him but I doubt very much he's a coward.

Lucca Sat 12-Mar-22 12:54:35

Definitely too much. A slur.

So nasty, unwarranted, offensive and as Lucca says, a slur.
Does anyone imagine his grandmother or father enjoy seeing people who’ve never met any of them making comments like that

volver Sat 12-Mar-22 13:06:00

I see so often on here, the name calling and disapproval of M&H, excused as a bit of light relief, we need to think about something else etc. etc.

They are real people. I very much doubt they or their staff are reading this but does that make it OK? Can we say anything we like about them, with no justification, because they'll never see it and its all a bit of fun?

Sorry to say this but if that's the case I'm glad I don't know some of you IRL.

timetogo2016 Sat 12-Mar-22 13:27:29

I don`t think he will be missed,it`s about P Philip.

volver Sat 12-Mar-22 13:34:13

No sorry, the M&H anti-cheerleading-side don't get it all ways.

Either the Queen is upset about it or Harry won't be missed.

You've got to pick one. Can't have both.

Hahaha! But would prefer to fly to a rodeo last week and to the Invictus Games.

"Does anyone imagine his grandmother or father enjoy seeing people who’ve never met any of them making comments like that"

.... or even seeing certain family members who have made comments like that, broadcast to the whole world.

volver Sat 12-Mar-22 13:44:58

Do you defend calling him a coward then Sparklefizz?

Sparklefizz Sat 12-Mar-22 13:52:40

I haven't called him that, volver, and would not presume to shout down someone else's opinion.

The service is for his grandfather. I would have thought he would have attended out of respect. Obviously showing respect isn't high on his list of priorities. Maybe Prince Philip is going to be slammed in the book which won't be published until after the Queen dies.

Me too. It shows a shocking lack of respect, he could have easily quietly slipped into the country and left after the service. He’d have been given the appropriate level of security as a matter of course.
I wonder what’s coming out in the forthcoming book in the autumn?
If he was my son I would be very disappointed with him, it’s really disrespectful IMO.
