So it seems that Prince Harry has decided to not attend his grandfather’s memorial service on 29th March at Westminster Abbey. I’m not surprised, are you?

Anniebach Sun 13-Mar-22 13:12:17

Thank you Maddy yes you watched your daughter going through the nightmare. I brought it up because not having children and grandchildren does cause it difficult to understand the depth of love a mother has for her child/children ,just as a single woman couldn’t really understand married life. It’s wonderful that your daughter had
children, but how IVF affects hormones is a nightmare

Can you imagine how positive an image it would give if a HoS could be shown to still be fulfilling her duties whilst in a wheelchair?

Can you imagine the boost that would give to the perception of people who use wheelchairs?

But no, an image of perfection must be maintained at all times.

For goodness sake, the Queen is 95 years old and may be in pain or suffering from something else we don't know about. You expect too much. She has given 70 years of service, is that not enough for you?

You're not suggesting she retires are you?

It's not me who wants her to stay in post till she.....

well I don't think its very nice to talk about the demise of anybody, let alone an old lady.

hmm

Chestnut Sun 13-Mar-22 15:31:56

I'm suggesting that if the Queen does not feel well enough to perform duties then you should not expect her to be wheeled out and carry on as before. I didn't mention her demise, not sure what you're referring to.

The Queen is the Head of State. There are responsibilities that come with being Head of State. If a person is so old, or infirm, that they can no longer get out of a car or sit in a church, it is my personal opinion that they are not fulfilling the role of head of state. Irrespective of how long they have lived, or the service they have already given, a person should be self aware enough to realise that they are no longer capable of giving the service to the nation that they always have, and that perhaps its time to pass those responsibilities on to a person who is better able to perform them.

But with a hereditary monarchy with a strong objection to abdication, you get what you're given.

Monarchists want this woman to have the title and role of Head of State until she dies (sorry, distasteful).

I'd rather we had somebody as Head of State who is able to perform the duties that role encompasses. I do not feel that I am the one who is being disrespectful to a person who has devoted their life to fulfilling a role that we expect of her, its the people who think she's got to stay there till she dies that are asking too much of her.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 13-Mar-22 15:52:13

I think that she is handing over more and more responsibilities and duties to Prince Charles, Prince William and the other working Royals.

She has had face to face meetings over the last week or so including Mr,Trudeau, perhaps she will now just meet people at Windsor?

I for one do not begrudge Her Majesty this gradual retirement if that is what is best for her.

Neither do I GG13.

Remind me what a Hereditary Head of State is for again, if someone else can do all the work?

Maybe a bit like DH and I who own our SME, and get paid to stay at home whilst three of our AC do the day to day running of it…

volver Sun 13-Mar-22 16:23:26

Ah, but the Queen doesn't own the UK and if your AC were useless (which I'm sure they are not) you could replace them with people who weren't...

Fair point volver

And as for AC being useless, they have had their moments.

Why Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Royal Escape Was Inevitable
A new Vice special, Meghan Markle: Escaping the Crown, posits that Meghan had no choice but to flee the monarchy—a stubborn institution built on exclusion and steeped in racism.

By the way Media says Harry snub

William and Kate skiing Media a surprise.

Joe Biden, elected President, has committed more gaffes in his short term in office than the Queen has in her lifetime.
He is dangerous, she is not.

Grany Fri 18-Mar-22 09:15:56

What has the queen actually done can you think of anything she has said through her long 'reign' ? No she has to say nothing a Christmas message prepared to read on autoque each year.

Smileless2012 Fri 18-Mar-22 09:17:56

Yes. When her mother died she said 'grief is the price we pay for love'.

Anniebach Fri 18-Mar-22 09:22:17

Grany you still haven’t said how many rolls of lavatory paper
the royals use, you must know, you seem to know everything about them,

Anniebach Fri 18-Mar-22 09:26:54

She said in Aberfan , ‘I will come back’, she did , 4 more times

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 18-Mar-22 09:27:02

And what type of paper, how expensive, is it monogrammed? It's so important to drill down to the details.

Anniebach Fri 18-Mar-22 09:28:33

GSM for some reason grany refuses to say.

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 18-Mar-22 09:34:16

I suspect her intel isn't that great Annie. You would think that any overspending even on bog standard items would be closely monitored to give weight to the republican cause.

Grany Fri 18-Mar-22 10:30:57

Would you think £345 million on one family with their many grand homes palaces castles and land for extended family very little rent or rent free isn't extravagant?

Plus the two duchies one for queen one for Charles giving them £22 million each a bit extravagant? You can joke about this but queen and her family are having the last laugh.

Anniebach Fri 18-Mar-22 10:51:27

Who is joking ? I asked a question, surely you can answer ,

either say how many rolls of lavatory paper or you don’t know

Calendargirl Fri 18-Mar-22 13:14:10

Smileless2012

Yes. When her mother died she said 'grief is the price we pay for love'.

I thought she said that after 9/11, as Bill Clinton commented on it, but I may be wrong.

Whatever, it’s a very appropriate turn of phrase.

Anniebach Fri 18-Mar-22 14:11:10

Yes after 9/11, it was read out in a church , and she is so right

nadateturbe Fri 18-Mar-22 15:33:49

You can joke about this but queen and her family are having the last laugh.

I agree. Sometimes it would be good to actually think about what is being said.
