the law as it stands on sex
(1001 Posts)I think we should look at the law and stop fuffing about.
A transwoman can rape a woman a transman cant. In law rape is only about penises not gender.
However presently in law gender trumps sex, as a person with a penis is legally a woman if they say they are a woman with some checks. That is the law now. That is why the NHS has changed rules, the police the courts and lavatories and sport and girl guides, everything follows from a law change.
All political parties now wish to push this further and declare that checks are hurtful to people with penises who feel they are women and they should be legally declared women if they say so (self-ID) and be able to access all safeguarding previously, since time immemorial, has protected people without penises from those that do. For obvious reasons.
This is incredibly important and must be discussed openly and fully without fear or favour.
I absolutely cannot understand how anyone can hold perceptions of others based on their own ideology rather than who they are as a whole person.
In real life I am able to have positive relationships with many people despite their differing views as long as they aren't actively abusive people
I dont hold perceptions of people because of an ideology what do you mean?
VioletSky
I absolutely accept that a trans woman doesn't have to identify as a woman and can hold that distinction. I would respect that completely should I meet them
They are the realistic snd sensible TW.
They understand what they wish they could be, but realise they cannot ever be a biological woman, They know that they cannot suffer from period pains, PMT or the menopause.
But, they have the choice to live as TW if they wish to.
But, boundaries, in respect of biological females, need to be respected in certain circumstances - such as hospitals, refuges and some female only spaces.
So what are all the lovely peaceful people supporting trans doing to protect the females that some trans are abusing.
How are they making it clear to abusive transwomen that what they are doing is not acceptable?

They are abusive biological men, identifying as female, doing the abusing.
Thanks DL.

I’m sooo sorry, I thought anyone with an interest in this topic knew that transwomen are biological men.
Evidently not, so Congratulations on broadening some people’s knowledge base.??

Well, yes, as a teenager in the swinging sixties/seventies, a mother of a son, a granny to five adult grandsons, and been married twice.....I can confirm, that, if they have dangly bits, they are biological men....?
Happy to help...lol ?
There are abusive biological men masquerading as priests why not go after them? Some of them even get convicted but carry on under the protection of the church.
Why focus on transwomen?
Why not target all abusive men?
Because those priests are not trying to gain entry into women's safe spaces trisher. They are not identifying as women in order to carry out their vile crimes so have no bearing on this particular discussion.

When I worked in a child protection we did go after priests, Imans, rabbis and vicars that alleged to be abusive.
Unhappily, their respective churches/religions, at that time, covered up for them.?
That wasn't right - but nor is abuse by TW.
were alleged
Thanks Smileless2012 for not being sucked into yet another diversion.
I never quite understand how someone feels the need to mention a different crime.
What purpose does it serve?
Do they think another crime makes the one under discussion less serious, or more excusable?
I've seen a priest in a woman's refuge and on a maternity ward in the hospital. They have also historically been in children's wards and all sorts of places.
I'd never have questioned that but it's the truth.
Abusive men will find a way to a victim.
I don't blame religious people for that so why would I blame trans women
I think it's simply is distraction technique Mollygo and a poor one in this case; IMO of course.
Priests who have been accused have been protected by being moved on before any charges could be made, which is of course reprehensible but to my knowledge a convicted priest has never then been protected by the church.
I am applying the same rule to all men, none in womens spaces, whether you are a priest, a plumber, etc. No male plumbers in womens sport for example. This is not targeting plumbers.
VioletSky said "I don't blame religious people for that so why would I blame trans women" I don't blame ALL trans women for the sins of SOME trans women, any more than I blame ALL priests for the sins of SOME priests. Nor does anyone else on GN that I have read.
What I do say is that assuming that all trans women are perfect is unrealistic, and that is why classing ALL of them legally as identical to female women in ALL situations is unrealistic.
If you had said "abusive men" I could have answered you
So we’re back to the wrong kind of transwoman? Abusive transwomen are not transwomen, they’re men? All transwomen are lovely and kind and support AHF’s?
Smileless2012

No some priests haven't been convicted because the church chose to pay the families of the abused children to keep the cases out of court. www.theguardian.com/world/2010/apr/21/boston-globe-abuse-scandal-catholic
Some priests haven't been convicted beause of the statute of limitations and the fact that many victims don't speak out until they are adults.
It's not distraction. It's a simple query. If what matters is lessening the damage done, protecting the weak and vulnerable such as children and women why isn't there a huge movement on social media protesting about priests, who are men, who gain access to all sorts of places through their status and use that status to abuse people?
There are far more priests accused of abuse than transwomen.
But this is a discussion about trans issues, not abusive priests and I assume from your post that you agree with mine trisher when I posted that to my knowledge a priest convicted of abuse has never been protected by church.
It's cross purposes, it achieves exactly nothing positive
And far too many negative things
If a butch lesbian or a masculine presenting women is being abused for using a female toilet who do you blame?
Trans women or abusive people?
