Will you vote Tory next time?

Just wondering if those who voted Conservative at the last General Election will do so next time? I ask the question in light of all the scandals associated with this Government, together with the lack of action taken to mitigate the effects of the ‘cost of living crisis’ (despite France, Spain and several other European countries giving much more help to their people), abandoning the Triple Lock (despite retaining it being in their manifesto).

Quite a few turkeys voting for Christmas I see. The Tories want the more elderly in society dead. Pensions? 2nd lowest in Europe. Health service to be privatised so enjoy paying for your medications and operations. The Tory party are smashing up the country and it is the young people who will pay. It is so very sad. Please remember, this is not the Conservative party of the past when there were MPs with some sort of moral compass, even if you didn't agree with them. This lot are sex and drugs and alcohol. Oh yes, and take money from the Russians who are now destroying Ukraine.

So well said SG.

The Conservative Foundation states that the Conservative Party has always stood for personal liberty, democracy and the rule of law.
What’s not to like ?
Not like these lefties who wish to deliver communism via the likes of Corbyn under the guise of socialism. ?

grin grin grin grin grin grin That's the closest I can get to hysterical laughter. Wake up dear, Corbyn has gone. And he isn't a communist. And the Conservative party does not stand for the rule of law. Other than that, good try, but please wake up at the back

Certainly not.

I'm amused by the idea that voting Labour brings the risk of another Jeremy Corbyn. It's just like the idea that voting Tory brings the risk of another lying scoundrel Boris Johnson.

Leftwing MP Richard Burgon has recently called for a 10% tax on the assets of the super-rich who have over £100m in wealth

Is this what you mean Lilyflower?

Hmm, let me think, do I want another five years of decreasing standards, lies and corruption or should I vote to protect those poor sods with assets over £100m? I will have to get back to you on that.

At each election demographics indicate that age is the biggest predictor of how people vote, and for the over 65s the majority vote Tory. They are also the majority who turn out to vote, so it’s unlikely, as some have said the Tories want to see off the elderly (perhaps only the poor elderly).

Yes, I vote for the least worst party and unfortunately at the moment, the best one for me is Conservative. I don’t like Boris but think he does a better job than Starmer ever could. He doesn’t give any credibility on any of the (extremely few) ideas he has. It’s all “everyone can have free school meals/prescriptions/education” but no feasible justification of where the money would come from. His predecessor was exactly the same. Starmer though, is fickle as is humanely possible. He changes his mind to fit the agenda on a daily basis, which gives me no confidence in him being able to deliver a newspaper let alone a manifesto. I’d love to get rid of all the U.K. politicians and parties and start again.

I am hoping that the young will be motivated to get themselves out if there is a next time. Latest tory wheeze is to increase the interest rates on their student loans. I'm sure they're going to love that.

When I think that we got our university education free, with a no strings attached maintenance grant into the bargain, and then the majority of us have voted to pull up the ladder after us, it makes me sick. (pleased to say that I have never voted tory, ever.)

Spoilt ballot papers are not counted they go in a sompletely separate envelope to The Count and are not even looked at at the Count. So spoining a ballot paper is a waste of your time actually bothering to vote and makes no difference to anybody. I have worked on the elections for nearly 45 years and it amuses me that people think they are making a statement.

I thought that was a joke...

Surely no-one who is aware of the PM breaking the law HE WROTE, not once but several times, can say that the tory party stands for the 'rule of law' with a straight face.

I always voted Tory except one time when I was very cross with Mrs. Thatcher. Now this government clearly wishes all elderly people were dead I won't be voting for them. We don't have a credible party to take over though do we? I guess whoever promises the elderly the most will get my vote. Not that we can rely on the Tories not to break any election promises. Actually I have no idea who I will vote for. I don't trust any of them.

I agree, my vote realistically is “the most likely contender who isn’t labour”.

Has anyone who declares that they can't possibly vote Labour actually looked at the policies they are currently proposing?

Or is it some tribal hatred thing?

VioletSky Wed 13-Apr-22 17:45:12

It's ended up a bit like football, people pick a team and cheer them on no matter how badly they play

No Maizie it's a reader of the Express / Daily Mail / Sun / Telegraph thing.

I accept what you say, Fashionista1, as you have experience which I don't. However, I feel that rather than not vote, I would spoil my paper if there was nobody standing whom I felt I could vote for, and then would I not at the very least be counted as having turned out and done my bit by those who worked so hard to give me the vote? If the turnout is, say 60%, and the votes cast amount to 40%, that seems to me to be some kind of statement.

The Times isn't going to tell you what Labour party policies are. It's Murdoch paper after all.

yes because I live in a London Borough with 15 labour councillors and 2 labour MPs and the whole place is going to hell in a handcart, if there was another choice I'd made it

There's always another choice...

I think you do have to concede that there is a higher standard of journalism in the Times though MaizieD. If I want to read a more accurate representation of the position from the right I would choose the Times over the Telegraph every time.

Or the people that we could have in government if Labour win the election. I’d like the people who say they can’t possibly vote for them to give me a breakdown of the people they think would be in government and give me a reason why they couldn’t possibly do a better job than the current government. Or tell me that they’ve heard them speak in parliament and disliked them.
