Who next for PM?

Listening to the closing interview on Today they seem to think nothing will happen until after the May Local Elections.

The suggestion was that, if Johnson is defenestrated, the next PM could not be from the current Cabinet as they are now all tarred with backing Johnson. Hunt name was the only one they could suggest.

What are your thoughts? I can't see how, if he goes, the government can continue but I do understand I have an underlying bias.

Rory Stewart

Every day that Boris Johnson remains tarnishes his party and the office of the Prime-Minister.
Removing him is not only the ethical thing for Conservative MPs to do.
It is also profoundly in their long-term interest.

Ben Wallace.

What has Jeremy Hunt done wrong to blot his chances?

He’s been quite clever. Criticising Johnson occasionally but keeping quiet on some issues. But this government seems to be about either protecting Johnson or various MP’s furthering their own political career. None of them seem to care about the country and it’s people.

Jeremy Hunt was all for privatising the NHS. I doubt he's changed.

I wonder if Rory Stewart is banking on the Tory party splitting. It might be the only thing that saves it when it sinks.

“Those Who Seek Power Are Not Worthy Of That Power”, Plato. Certainly true of a lot of our current bunch in Westminster. I’m in Scotland, and imo, it’s also true of a lot of our SMPs. My heart sinks at the thought of BJ staying as PM, but I’ll be honest and say that I have no idea who from the current Cabinet would be any better.

Tobias Elwood, please

Anyone but the conservatives. All of them at the moment seem to lack any moral compass

Group of influential Conservative MPs are forming around Jeremy Hunt in attempt to stop Liz Truss & “sideline Tom Tugendhat”.

Tugendhat is seen as good enough to get a 2nd placing but MPs worried members will vote Truss - widely regarded as stupid & friendless by MPs.

Won’t there have to be an enquiry into the governments handling of the pandemic before the next election? Or are they banking on the fact that people have forgotten about it now that they seem to be ignoring the fact that it hasn’t actually gone away?

I've never been interested in Politics b4, from what I've witnessed and lived through, my conclusion is it doesn't matter who or what party gets voted they all piss in the same pot!!!
The job should be given to people who haven't gone to Eton and been fed from a silver spoon.
Quite simple make the hourly rate the same as what a care worker gets. Fuel allowance and uniforms cleaned. Soon find out who really wants the job!!!!!

Unfortunately, the answer to your second question is probably "yes". Furthermore, some people even think the government has handled the pandemic well and the government's PR machine will ensure that people only remember the good bits (rolling out vaccines) and forget the details.
