Is this Boris’s latest attempt to divert us all from dwelling on the fact that he repeatedly lied to parliament?

We have never been a tolerant nation, just like to kid ourselves we are. Plenty racism, misogyny and religious bigotry where I grew up. For some reason though no one likes to admit it.

The people with the least to fear from brown faces are the most fearful.
Who’s fearful of them? Except those who room around in gangs and commit crimes as I’ve already said. But I fear for the futures of our own poor when the local authorities charged with housing them decently and educating their children have to spend enormous amounts on asylum seekers instead.

JaneJudge Thu 14-Apr-22 16:57:13

In my local town I am more worried the white men who don't work and take drugs and drink and intimidate people but they are still a failure of the system here, care leavers, those that were not supported properly at school because ADHD didn't exist etc

Coastpath Thu 14-Apr-22 17:03:11

In my local town I am more worried about the white, British men who come to holiday in the Butlins and walk along the high street with their families wearing 'Fit in or F*ck Off* T-shirts.

LauraNorderr, you deserve credit for sticking your head above the parapet as a previous Tory voter and saying that you find the current policy unacceptable. Unlike some of the dyed-in-the-wool Tories of the My-Party-Right-or-Wrong tendency on GN, you have obviously given the matter some thought, and I realise that it must have been difficult for you. flowers

A number of "our own poor" have brown faces.

From what Germanshepherdsmum, JaneJudge and Coastpath say, it seems that perhaps men are the problem, never mind what colour their skins may be...

I thought Tories believed people were responsible for themselves. How come, all of a sudden, local authorities are responsible for them? hmm

Don't forget the nasty women who have children they then send to childminders or nurseries while they work!

Or the gobby, common women in cardigans.

Anyway, I literally just came on here to see how many thumbs ups Urmstongran has got since her 14.31 post. Tally currently = 2. Both from Urmstongran. I am heartened by this.

It’s illegal to enter the country without the requisite permission, or attempt to do so.

No, it isn't. They have a legal right to claim asylum the moment they land. They're not "illegal" until/unless asylum is denied and they stay. As a former solicitor, I would have thought you would have known that.

The Court of Appeal found Channel boat crossings are not illegal in December 2021. If it was illegal why is this fascist government about to try and change the law? If Johnson stays in power, it won't be long before they don't need to worry about what the law says and then everything his supporters say will be right.

Heaven only knows what will happen to the rest of us.

I actually posted a ✔️ in one post instead of a thumbs up in case anybody thought I was agreeing with Urmstongran

OakDryad and Coastpath, thank you for showing compassion and empathy . I am a woman of faith, and these matter to me.
Such qualities have marked our nation for years, and I hope will continue to be so in the future.
I speak as the granddaughter of an Italian immigrant/migrant worker.

I suppose the White Supremacists in the USA wouldn't think that when it comes to there "own poor". It must depend on who you think of as "our own" sad

I think it’s very patronising to say that a Conservative voter must find it difficult to criticise something the party has done. That’s ridiculous. No party is anywhere near perfect but often gets votes because it’s the best of a bad bunch. To suggest that someone can’t cope with criticism of the party they support is to suggest that they’re completely mindless.

Israel according to bbc news stopped the same scheme last year because the people who were forcibly repatriated were subsequently people trafficked, tortured and raped. It was quite dreadful.

Urmstongran Thu 14-Apr-22 18:20:14

The government has decided to apply this policy to single men. I haven't. But I do know that the shoplifting gangs in my nearest city are wholly comprised of non-English speaking young men with brown or black faces. Make of that what you will.

jaylucy Thu 14-Apr-22 18:28:41

"Going to be processed" It's a one way ticket that they are going to get, so surely, it's not beyond belief that desperate enough, they may begin the long trek back and end up once again in a tiny boat in the middle of the channel.
Are all refugees being sent there ? including Syrians, Afghanis and those from other African nations?
Did they think this idea up at one of their illegal, lock down parties?

volver Thu 14-Apr-22 18:29:14

I'm not racist, but it's those foreign brown people that are causing all the problems!

Wheniwasyourage Thu 14-Apr-22 18:36:24

Yes, what is the point in sending them for "processing" if they aren't going to be allowed back anyway? That's what was being reported on PM today. confused
