Those speculating a while back as to whether Putin was ill were right by the sound of it.

The New York Times is reporting that he is going in for surgery and he is meanwhile transferring power to an ex FSB bod.

I thought you were all wrong! Just shows what I know?.

Just read that there may be a coup to depose Putin. Generals and senior security staff unhappy at Russian losses. Please God can they prevail and bring this cruel atrocity to an end.

I was just scrolling whilst cooking GC dinner and saw that being reported on cityam.com not sure how reliable they are?

(Haven’t time to check)

*Volver^ If a write a reply that is particular to a person, I put their name in first. Otherwise assume everything I write is to and about replies in general.

Blimey - is that good or bad! Do we know what the Generals would do? ;

I’ve seen some reports that it would degenerate into a civil war within Russia ultimately if that happens as there isn’t a clear view of the future, and some of the generals are already positioning themselves - and a number have already been killed in Ukraine, which which may change the dynamics. It’s one big mess.

Rumours are swirling in Moscow that a number of former generals and KGB officials are preparing to oust Putin and plan to end the war in Ukraine, which is increasingly seen across Russia as a strategic mistake and, above all, an economic disaster.

I wonder what the truth is?

There have been mutterings about a putsch almost from the beginnning of the war.

The parallel is what happened to Kruschev in 1964 after the Bay of Pigs eyeball to eyeball confrontation with President Kennedy. Kruschev was deposed and replaced by Leonid Brezhnev. He went into retirement with a pension and lived until 1971.

Hopefully this is what will happen to Putin, although he may well not need a pension as he is a very wealthy man.

Mind you Leonid Brezhniv was an old school communist leader, under him the Russian economy shrank, there were food shortages and the country slid technically well behind other countries. Corruption became emdemic, although a group of people around Brezhnev, known as the Nomenklatura never lacked anything. He was in power for 18 years.

So what comes after Putin, politically and economically may be no better than what we have now, or even worse, but they would almost without doubt, end the war.

As long as they end the war and leave Ukraine alone that would be fine. Reparations though? The poor country needs massive rebuilding.

Such rumours are the sort of propaganda Putin himself would put about for his own unfathomable reasons. Can you imagine them coming from anywhere else in a country where one man has such complete control?
