The loss of freedom of speech, of sidelining women and biology

I've been asked to repost this:

'Julie Bindel had a pretty horrendous time whilst delivering a (previously postponed) lecture to York University's Free Speech Society.

The activists, who say we must be "all be kind" didn't display much courtesy or kindness to her.?

She was abused, accused, screamed at, and had placards thrust in her face. The TW mob were out in force, and she was "invited" to kiss their "man-boobs" and told things she could do with their "trans d*cks".

Meanwhile, in the Court case involving Alison Bailey, Stonewall tell us that there are no such things as male and female bodies. They don't exist...?

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10807211/We-not-inherently-male-female-Stonewall-campaigner-says-bodies-just-bodies.html

It sure is a funny old world out there in Trans La-La land.

That is if you are in Scotland - but make your opinion known to your own representative, wherever you are. That web page on how to compose an effective message applies to everyone.

I recently watched an interview with Ruth Cadbury MP who said that she recommends including something about why a subject is important to you, personally, as well as larger points about the issue, when you write to politicians.

Stormystar Fri 03-Jun-22 17:48:33

Thanks FarNorth and Elegran I have contacted my MP and do encourage others to do so, however I lament how passionate I used to be about seriously important issues, and I know there must be so much more that should and must be done, otherwise it feels to me like condoning and collusion. I’m now convinced that Radical action has become necessary. Where’s our Grans Power what could/ should it look and act like that’s what I’m struggling with

Lia Thomas, (the American TW swimmer), has given an interview:

"Transgender swimmer Lia Thomas said on Tuesday that she should be allowed to compete as a woman despite having a physical advantage and that she 'doesn't need permission' from anyone.

The 22-year-old broke her silence on Good Morning America on Tuesday where she also revealed hopes to compete for America in the Olympics.

It comes after a wave of doctors suggested she - and other trans female athletes - will always have an unfair advantage in some sports because they cannot undo puberty, when their biological male bodies were flooded with testosterone.

Speaking on Tuesday, Lia admitted she is 'no medical expert' but she said some cisgender females have more testosterone, bigger hands and feet and are taller than their competitors - so why should she banned when they aren't.

I don't need anybody's permission to be myself,' she said.

She also said anyone who says she isn't allowed to compete as a woman is transphobic, regardless of whether or not they support her right to transition.

'You can't go halfway and be like "I support trans people but only to a certain point."

'If you support transwomen and they've met all the N.C.A.A. requirements, I don't know if you can say something like that.

Trans women are not a threat to women's sport,' she said.

Further on what happened with the 6th-former who was bullied for stating that biological sex is real, and on the climate in that school.

I hope you're right AussieNana that people are sensitively counseled if they appear to have gender dysphoria.
That hasn't always been happening in the UK or in the USA.

"If they appear to" ??
You seem intent on dismissing this as a real issue.

I can't speak for what is happening in other countries, or what you perceive to be happening - but I stand by my point that this is a real issue for people and we should be supporting their right to medical and surgical treatment if that is what they want.

Elegran Sat 04-Jun-22 09:22:56

" I had no ther choice. Not transitioning wasn't leading me anywhere" Lia Thomas.

"My feet got smaller. I am half a size, a full shoe size smaller now" Lia Thomas.

"In Brazil we have an MMA transgender fighter (male to "female") that refused to compete with women because she knows that it would be utterly unfair. Her name is Anne Viriato. And furthermore she transitioned at the age of 12, so she didn't go through her whole puberty "as a man" like Lia. Now THAT is what I call integrity.
What Lia Thomas is doing is completely undignifying. It's really hard not to suspect whether he hurried his transition to take advantage of women in his carrier. " A comment under the video.

FarNorth Sat 04-Jun-22 09:25:26

"If they appear to" means what it says.
Just as "if they appear to have heart disease" would mean investigation is needed to find out if that is the case.
There could be any number of reasons for someone to appear to have gender dysphoria and sensitive counseling can help them to explore their feelings.

FarNorth Sat 04-Jun-22 09:30:27

"medical and surgical treatment if that is what they want" AussieNana?
Is that usual, where you are?
That people just say what medical and surgical treatment they think they should have for a condition they believe they have, and they get it?

Elegran Sat 04-Jun-22 09:32:09

AussieNanna ""If they appear to" ??

Gender disphoria is a medical condition which needs to be diagnosed professionally. Until it has been diagnosed it must "appear to be". On the strength of just "feeling" that you suffer from any other serious medical condition that you had self-diagnosed, you wouldn't make a permanent legal change to your status.

FarNorth Sat 04-Jun-22 09:32:11

The UK Civil Service is being given training telling them it is transphobic to say that a woman is an adult human female.

Hmm AussieNana I’m getting a déjà vu feeling from your posts.
No one on here denies that it is a real issue, or that those with or who believe they have gender dysphoria deserve support and eventually, treatment if necessary.
However there is real and justifiable concern about how it is being addressed particularly with young people, especially, but not only girls, at a time when they are already vulnerable due to their changing bodies and the expectations placed upon them.
Concern also about the potential for real irreversible harm through chemical or physical bodily altering treatment.

if that is what they want

Did you always consider your pre-teen or early teen children’s wants to be in their best interests and allow them to do, or have whatever they wanted?
Would you have allowed your (or any) children who wanted to live on fast food and cola to do so because that was what they wanted?
Or to go off on holiday to somewhere where you didn’t know roughly what they were doing or where they were going because that’s what they wanted?
Have you had no experience of how children want something desperately and then abandon it a few weeks or months later?
Have you had no experience of how students go off to university fixated on the subject they’ve always wanted to study and then change course when they find it isn’t what they thought it would be?

DiamondLily Sat 04-Jun-22 10:03:55

If I had conceded to all the needs and wants of my children through the years, I would have been bankrupt and they'd have been in prison lol?

Children and teens go through many stages, and certain things, although they can be discussed, and supported emotionally, do not have to be granted.

There is little that cannot wait until adulthood, especially if it's body/life changing/permanent.

I took a simple view - while they were minors living in my home, they abided by "serious" rules.

I wouldn't have allowed hard drugs in the house, because I consider them harmful - so why would I have allowed this?

No way.?

Treelover Sat 04-Jun-22 11:35:28

It seems that AussieNana is hung up on the issue of whether grender dysphoria exists. Of course it does it is a recognised disorder. The objections are that people not suffering from it do not have to change their lives to suit them. Thats not how it works. In the same way that people who have body dysmorphia don't dictate our eating habits. We have concern and will treat and accommodate but not change our laws and language to make them feel better. Mercifully those suffering from the disorder are a minority although wielding much power, virtue signalling and shaming anyone who does not give them ascendancy. The vocal powerful ones are men...dictating to women. It is a very old story. And this old woman wont wash it.

Rosie51 Sat 04-Jun-22 13:15:13

Good post Treelover, no other condition compels the speech or lived lives of others.

twitter.com/WomensRightsNet/status/1532804764664225792

Of course transwomen's inclusion into female sports won't harm women's chances of success. ??

TerriBull Sat 04-Jun-22 17:20:48

J K Rowling and others held an event at a London restaurant to raise money for Ukraine. That venue has now been vandalised by trans activists and the usual one star reviews to verbally trash that restaurant, and they have the temerity to call so called TERFS intolerant shock

Rosie51 Sat 04-Jun-22 17:48:38

TerriBull the TRAs are so vile they'd rather let kids in Ukraine suffer than let any fundraiser associated with JKR go unhindered. How many businesses will be willing to risk it to hold another one? Most marginalised, vulnerable, powerless section of society? If their actions weren't so abhorrent it would be laughable.

They are utter shits. And holding the production of Father Ted the musical up because the creator is deemed by them to be transphobic because he believes in womens rights which are under threat and is vocal about the harm coming to children by the transgender industry. They really need taking down. They are bullies.

TerriBull Sat 04-Jun-22 18:00:34

Yes appalling the event raised £18,500. An old established Italian family restaurant Il Portico's owner is distraught seeing his business trashed in the way that it has been. Shocking behaviour sad

Why aren't the police and CPS cracking down on this? It's like living in a dystopian nightmare.

I don't know how many people are reading this thread. I sometimes think that a majority of people see the word 'trans' and think 'oh, it will be the same people banging on again', and go and read something else. Their prerogative, of course - but nobody is safe from this. Our generation might escape a lot of the damage, but our daughters if we have them, our nieces, granddaughters, young friends, all women are under real threat.

This is not the time to look away.

SueDonim Sat 04-Jun-22 20:27:14

I see there’s a report from the Daily Telegraph saying that The census could ask “do you menstruate?” instead of “are you female?” to be inclusive of transgender people, a taxpayer-funded study has suggested.

Where that leaves those of us who are pre-pubertal, past the menopause or who have had surgery, I don’t know. confused

Doodledog Sat 04-Jun-22 21:02:54

*Where that leaves those of us who are pre-pubertal, past the menopause or who have had surgery, I don’t know. confused

I worry that it leaves those who do menstruate in the role of 'breeders'.

Blessed Be The Fruit.
