Bring back the stocks for lying MPs
Bring back nationalisation of the railways and utilities.

Great place to start would be the multimillionaires in the cabinet giving a s**t about the poor in Britain.

I know I know. A stretch and never gonna happen.

Who’s in favour of using Roman numerals?

I for one ?

Brilliant ?

The repair as opposed to the new build sector of the building trades requires imperial measurements to be available. Otherwise how could they repair or replace windows, doors, the kitchen sink etc in properties built before decimalisation??

I live in a 300+ year old house. My builder has managed perfectly well over the years with replacing all the windows with 2x glazed units, completely replacing the upper floor in half of the house and with building us an extension. It's not exactly an insuperable problem.

Two tweets from Weights & Measures inspectors:

I’m a Weights & Measures inspector and knocking 50 and I’ve never learned or been trained to use imperial measures at school or work! There is no equipment in the UK for a ‘return’ to imperial for trade.

Too true. As a former W&M inspector myself, I know that imperial local standards have been disposed of. The cost of replacing a national imperial standards system in financial, legislative and time terms would be considerable. I joined in 1968 and metric was already in place.

It is still possible to ask for "une livre" (a pound / 500ish grams) of fruit or vegetables in France. Younger folk look a bit blank but the older ones know what you mean.
That is after a couple of hundred years. ?

I’ll happily do without imperial measures if he would abolish changing the clock twice a year!

Can I put in a plea for a return to the EU it might just get our economy back on track, trying to keep all the older generation by changing back to imperial wont do anything except make the younger generations totally peed off

Ali23 Mon 30-May-22 21:30:07

GagaJo, you took the words out of my mouth.

I’m 73 and although we used the Imperial system in primary school once in secondary we went over to the metric system. There is no comparison. Metric is simplicity itself, especially when dealing with physics. The idea of changing back is ludicrous.
The whole charade is simply another of Boris’s dead cats.

Oh yes, love them!
But I'll have to do some revision.
And Roman coinage

I'm going out with my metal detector tomorrow to see if I can find some aurei or denarii in the back garden.

I don't think it matters that much. When I go in the greengrocers I buy what I need and in the butchers I use I always ask for things in pounds or half pounds. I always get the amount I want. It doesn't seem to be a problem to them.
