This ?

We must wait and see.

Russ Jones

I'm hearing 54 letters have been handed in, and a confidence vote in Johnson is likely in early June. Rumour. But solid source.

If so, I suspect Johnson will push for the confidence vote immediately, so it happens before by-elections. And he'll survive. Weak. But survive

Is this what’s known as a Pyricc (sp?) Victory?

DaisyAnne Sun 05-Jun-22 18:24:28

Pyrrhic Fanny (I looked it up smile) Who do you think would gain the victory, pyrrhic or otherwise?

“Grant Schapps this weekend is the first senior Minister to use a new line that is being trialed,

'I didn't vote for Brexit but the country did'.

We can expect to hear this a lot as the government transitions to a rejoin single market and CU position.”

This may be a reaction to Tobias Ellwood suggesting, last week, that the UK had been "strangled by red tape" and it was time to join the EEC in a Norway style relationship.

Schapps is showing a real lack of leadership by saying this. Presumably he doesn't want the top job.

Daniel Hannan has recently said that we would have saved ourselves a lot of "trouble" if we had remained in the single market. However, he added that "t rejoining it now would be madness".

Even Farage talk about a Norway option at one stage so I imagine the word "Norway" may be heard quite a bit now the Tory MPs have found out what not reading agreements does to the country.

Obviously, some of GN's extreme Brexiteers and the ERG will not go for this and who knows what Johnson is thinking. It could, of course, be how they will define his replacement - someone who will take us into the single market.

Johnson is going to "fight back" this week, with a plan to sort out "NHS inefficiency" and push forward the Right To Buy for more people.

"The review will look at ways of replicating good leadership across the NHS, and ensuring that the best leaders are attracted to the health service.

The Government will also expand on its plans to extend the right to buy, one of Margaret Thatcher’s flagship policies.

Mr Johnson wants to make it easier for people who live in housing association properties to buy their own homes. A No 10 source said: ‘This week the Prime Minister will be focusing on important issues"

Should be an interesting couple of weeks.

Breaking news that Graham Brady is due to make an announcement this morning, to say the letters threshold has been met, and a vote of confidence will be called.

Looks as if he will win, but will undoubtedly be much weakened.

We will have all the usual nonsense about drawing a line under the past and reorganisation etc, but zero will happen. Johnson hasn’t the ability to change.

Good news for Labour

Galaxy Mon 06-Jun-22 08:15:27

It's ironic really. Johnson has spent a life time lying and deceiving to get what he needs. And the thing that might bring him down is something that brought him no particular benefit whatsoever. What a fool.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 06-Jun-22 08:18:26

Some wag added

“Chapter 1” ??

varian Mon 06-Jun-22 08:21:52

Brady has announced the vote

Riverwalk Mon 06-Jun-22 08:22:43

Blimey, the Tories do get a move on - vote tonight!

Whitewavemark2 Mon 06-Jun-22 08:26:11

Sums it up in one letter

vegansrock Mon 06-Jun-22 08:28:22

I think they waited till after the Jubbly weekend to announce it.

MaizieD Mon 06-Jun-22 08:32:38

Ballot today? They're moving fast.

If anyone gets the chance to see Jesse Norman's letter to the PM, do read it. It sets out very clearly what many of us have been saying for the past 2 years.

In fact, here it is:

Also, comments on the 'briefing paper'that Wwmk2 posted earlier. Not word of concern about the harm Johnson's government is doing to the country; just fears of losing their seats. Good old tory self interest rules supreme ?

Visgir1 Mon 06-Jun-22 08:37:35

Deadman walking..

Whitewavemark2 Mon 06-Jun-22 08:40:29

I think if there was an obvious alternative, his position would be very precarious.

Just think - no more Johnson!

A huge sigh of relief would go up just as it did when Trump lost the election.

BlueBelle Mon 06-Jun-22 08:44:43

Can we have a vote of no confidence in Savid Javid as well I ve just watched him lie his way through an interview with Suzanne Reid He lied and lied completely, with his eyes wide open staring into the camera with such an innocent look on his face

Whitewavemark2 Mon 06-Jun-22 08:47:17

Johnson must have the cabinet vote as none of them would ever get a job in another government surely?

Whitewavemark2 Mon 06-Jun-22 08:51:09

He was still flogging 40 hospitals. Johnson is now chortling about health week which will be as useless as crime week which took place recently.

Anyone notice ?

No I thought not.

DiamondLily Mon 06-Jun-22 08:56:03

He's promising to "make the NHS more efficient" and extend the "right to buy" to all Housing Association tenants.?

What's really quite worrying is that, according to that document, 25% of Conservative voters still think that Johnson is 'trustworthy'.

In all seriousness, I honestly don't know how anyone, however strongly they support the Conservative party, can genuinely believe that.

Is there anything whatsoever he could do that would make that 25% see him for what he is, or could he quite literally do no wrong in their eyes?

Esspee Mon 06-Jun-22 09:32:13

Looking on the bright side if they don’t boot him out now come the next General Election the Conservative Party will not be in government again for a very, very long time.
