This ?

We must wait and see.

Russ Jones

I'm hearing 54 letters have been handed in, and a confidence vote in Johnson is likely in early June. Rumour. But solid source.

If so, I suspect Johnson will push for the confidence vote immediately, so it happens before by-elections. And he'll survive. Weak. But survive

Oopsadaisy1 Tue 31-May-22 08:04:55

I hope not.

I think that what has finally pushed them into action is Johnson’s lurch even further right, with right wing and nationalist policies, like the change to the ministerial code, the plan to override the NI protocol, review of fracking, imperial measurements, the expansion of grammar schools and the intention to tear up EU regulation. Undoubtedly the reaction that Tory MPs are finding from their constituents, to all these nationalistic policies has alarmed them into action.

The 54 letters is fine, but at the first vote, unless 180 vote against Johnson, (51%), he will get through, without competition from others.

Then they can't touch him for a year.

Some media sources are reporting that the letters are in, but that Graham Brady wants to wait until after Jubilee weekend before announcing it.

He’s going to get away with it isn’t he??

MaizieD Tue 31-May-22 08:39:35

It's a difficult one to call, I think.

On the one hand, a very significant proportion of the electorate want him gone and dread the further damage he could do in the next 2 years, but, on the other hand, a further 2 years of Johnson is an absolute gift to the opposition parties and would destroy the tory party for a considerable length of time.

That's if we ever get another GE, of course ?

That is what I think.

Hold my nose and hope he stays, or think of the damage he is doing to the country and be glad he’s gone.

Andrea Leadsom has now joined the criticism!

There have been unacceptable failings of leadership that cannot be tolerated and are the responsibility of PM. My colleagues and I must now decide on what is right course of action that will restore confidence in our Government.

Sounds as if she is rallying the troops

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 31-May-22 10:16:01

I hope AL doesn’t have her eye on the prize yet again.

FarNorth Tue 31-May-22 10:18:45

a further 2 years of Johnson is an absolute gift to the opposition parties and would destroy the tory party for a considerable length of time.

By that time we'd be in a horrendous mess.

I really hope the Tory party get rid of Johnson and smarten up their ideas and behaviour.

OakDryad Tue 31-May-22 10:21:50

Peter de Putron pulling her strings no doubt.

Lovetopaint037 Tue 31-May-22 10:22:06

I read this post with sudden hope and then reality took its place. How this useless, idiotic, dangerous man ever got anywhere Downing Street defeats any reasoning. The Tory Party is revealed to be as self seeking as its leader. Now we will remember who stood up for decency and integrity.

MaizieD Tue 31-May-22 10:23:20

I think we're in a horrendous mess already, FarNorth Will 2 years make any difference?

Of course, we may have had riots by then...

Whitewavemark2 Tue 31-May-22 10:25:50

Ben Wallis is the post popular cabinet member

Whitewavemark2 Tue 31-May-22 10:35:38

Just saying that no previous Prime Minister has ever sent in a letter if no confidence. If May does it would be massive apparently.

winterwhite Tue 31-May-22 10:53:36

I think we should want MPs, including Theresa May, should do what they know is right, not what they think is expedient.

And let's hope they do it before the Prime Minister unilaterally changes the rules to make it 74 letters.?

FarNorth Tue 31-May-22 11:14:59

The way it's going MaizieD we shouldn't chance it.

FarNorth Tue 31-May-22 12:02:54

This thread needs some light relief

FannyCornforth Tue 31-May-22 12:10:10

That’s absolutely brilliant FarNorth grin

And I agree with you; he has to go ASAP.

I want a Labour government as much as the next person (unless that person is Maiziesmile)
but it’s beyond party politics.
It’s personal now.
He’s out of control…

Well, would you bloomin’ believe it, we need to take back control

GrannyGravy13 Tue 31-May-22 12:15:43

Mr.Johnson needs to go ASAP

MayBee70 Tue 31-May-22 12:28:02

Leadsom is criticising him now. Strange though. She’s supported him for the past 7 or so years knowing exactly what sort of person he is and how devoid he is of any loyalty or morality. Might it be that she’s just worried about her own political career? Surely not.
