It seems that the Home Secretary is willing to send people who having spent their recent lives escaping war are now to find themselves forcibly transported to a country now at war with its neighbour.

What is the matter with Patel?

growstuff Thu 16-Jun-22 10:16:04

My daughter's partner lives in Manchester, is from a Muslim background and has an appearance consistent with parents coming from Sudan and Yemen. You wouldn't believe it, but there are actually some people locally who think he's a terrorist. hmm He really should have some label stating he went to Manchester Grammar School, has an MSc and has a senior job in a well-known data company.

Along with my daughter, he was living within a few metres of the Ariadne Grande concert incident and heard it. Strangely enough (sarcasm), it affected him too, but people still think he's a wannabe terrorist.

Some people!

volver Thu 16-Jun-22 10:16:21

Seems I wasn't the only person who thought it was racist.

HousePlantQueen Thu 16-Jun-22 11:04:32

Anyone else see the dreadful Suella Braverman on Peston last night? She started by blaming 'European' courts for halting the Rwandan flights, and was pulled up sharp by Peston for inferring that this was an EU decision rather than by the ECHR, she then said that 'nothing was off the table' including leaving the ECHR......this person is Attorney General for heaven's sake. Oh, and she rounded off by calling Peston a Remainiac.

Maudi Thu 16-Jun-22 12:23:32

You've probably got Urmstongran banned hope you're proud of yourselves. You can certainly be an echo chamber now.

MaizieD Thu 16-Jun-22 12:28:37

Maudi

You've probably got Urmstongran banned hope you're proud of yourselves. You can certainly be an echo chamber now.

You'd prefer a racist echo chamber then, Maudi

I think you're probably in the wrong place.

volver Thu 16-Jun-22 12:29:35

I presume you didn't see Urmstongran's post Maudi, since GNHQ deleted it pdq when they were alerted to how hateful it was?

Although our PM has completely eroded standards in public life, I'm glad to see that they still exist on GN and that people are held to account for what they write.

growstuff Thu 16-Jun-22 12:38:20

Has Urmstongran been banned? confused

GrannyGravy13 Thu 16-Jun-22 12:46:38

I didn’t see Urmstongrans deleted post. The refugee/asylum seekers is a hot potato and extremely divisive, being whipped up by certain sectors of MSM.

I appreciate that posters all have differing views, I hope that Urms has not been banned, even temporarily.

volver Thu 16-Jun-22 12:47:47

I doubt that Urmstongran has been banned. Maybe she'll come along and put us all out of our misery.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 16-Jun-22 12:49:40

Urmstongran tried to PM and got this message, so she is banned, for how long?

is currently unable to receive PM’s

GrannyGravy13 Thu 16-Jun-22 12:53:28

No idea what happened to that jumbled post

I tried to PM Urms and received the generic message GN attach to accounts that are suspended

this account is unable to receive PMs at the moment

Kandinsky Thu 16-Jun-22 12:53:30

Oh that’s a shame.
It’s already so one sided on the politics board it won’t be worth reading now.

volver Thu 16-Jun-22 12:53:44

Ah well. I stand corrected.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 16-Jun-22 12:55:37

Racist posts will not be tolerated by GNHQ because they have the law to consider.

Racist comments get taken down quicker than anything else.

I didn’t see the post so might be wrong.

But honestly if the post was racist, I applaud the decision to have it removed.

I have no idea how to tell if a poster has been banned. Could it be that Urmstongran has disabled her PMs?

FannyCornforth Thu 16-Jun-22 13:03:31

Unlikely. It certainly looks as if Urms has been suspended

Casdon Thu 16-Jun-22 13:14:09

I missed the post this morning, but I’d be confident in saying that the vast majority of regular posters have the courage of their convictions, and would say if they had reported a post. I have reported somebody before for racism (not UG) and said so on the thread, as several others have done, to my knowledge.
Whitewavemark2 is right in saying that if GNHQ see a post that’s racist they have to take it down even if nobody has reported it - my guess is that this is a thread they would have been keeping an eye on. .

Maudi Thu 16-Jun-22 13:20:24

Of course somebody reported it GN don't police the threads posters do. You don't need to be Sherlock Holmes.

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 16-Jun-22 14:04:36

It’s pretty obvious from GN’s message that there’s been at least one report. I don’t believe they read threads unless they have received at least one report. So whoever you are, own up!

Kandinsky Thu 16-Jun-22 14:07:30

I didn’t even see the post.

volver Thu 16-Jun-22 14:09:15

Wisnae me, miss.

I do own up when I report. Not that there is anything to "own up" up for. Limiting the dissemination of racism? Seems fair enough to me.

Kandinsky Thu 16-Jun-22 14:10:31

It doesn’t always have to be someone on the thread who reports. There are plenty of ‘lurkers’ who just read threads without contributing.

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 16-Jun-22 14:11:27

I didn’t see the post but if anyone makes a report which leads to a poster being banned I think they should have the courage of their convictions.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 16-Jun-22 14:11:45

I have been in touch with Urms at least one person reported her.

She has a temporary ban.

volver Thu 16-Jun-22 14:13:38

I find that quite odd, though. Why do any of us need to know that some of us are anti-racist? So that people who support a reported poster can have a go at them? If you (generic) don't want to be reported, don't be racist.
