It seems that the Home Secretary is willing to send people who having spent their recent lives escaping war are now to find themselves forcibly transported to a country now at war with its neighbour.

What is the matter with Patel?

Dizza25 Mon 13-Jun-22 23:10:34

I await future comments, will be interesting.

Callistemon21 Mon 13-Jun-22 23:12:45

Don't you have any views on the situation?
They could be interesting.

MaizieD Mon 13-Jun-22 23:18:21

Why should there be any balance? It's not the BBC...

Maudi

My life doesn't revolve around GN like it does for some I don't let things bother me or the name calling I just think some posters must have very sad lives.

How about stopping to think of a more humane attuitude instead of wasting time saying silly things about posters having sad lives. You make a lot of assumptions eg all those opposing this hideous transportation policy are “lefties”. There are posts on here from people I know are not Labour supporters but who condemn it.

In a letter to the Times, senior Church of England leaders described the plan as an "immoral policy that shames Britain".

Signed by the archbishops of Canterbury and York and more than 20 other bishops who sit in the house of Lords, the letter said those being deported have had "no consideration of their asylum claim... or any attempt to understand their predicament".

Whitewavemark2 Tue 14-Jun-22 06:34:35

Honestly all those leftie bishops????

Lucca Tue 14-Jun-22 06:38:27

Just on a brief tangent Maudi.you wonder if posters have sad lives.,actually some do through no fault of their own eg terminal illness, mobility issues etc so your comment is doubly offensive.

My sad life today composed of having just returned from walking the dog on the South Downs in the early morning sunshine for an hour. I am now sitting drinkingh tea whilst I browse the news and commenting on GN. Politics is a hobby of mine. My other hobbies are gardening, watercolour painting, crafty stuff and walking. I also love the theatre, in fact booked to see MSND end of June. Which for me is as traditional as reading A. Christmas Carol each year?.

The other bit of my sad life today will consist of getting to grips with an overgrown rambler, planting out some salading, I will then prepare tonight’s dinner, before showering and changing to drive with DH to his heart checkup. We then will walk for an hour or two before returning home to cook and eat dinner. I will look at the news and almost certainly become extremely cross at something else the idiot who calls himself Prime minister has done.
I shall finish the day by reading my latest book which is called “The spy and Traitor” a true story.

Tomorrow will be entirely different.
Perhaps those who think my life is sad could suggest where I am going wring?

Or wrong even!

Urmstongran Tue 14-Jun-22 06:59:30

Welby. I’m sure he means well, but anyone else spot the C of E comparison with John Lewis here?

Business going down the pan
Shrinking customer base
Preaching wokeness and diversity to their customers
Diverging from core business
Overpaid out of touch unqualified management

Whitewavemark2 Tue 14-Jun-22 07:01:37

Their core business is saving people’s souls.

Do you want their number?

Whitewavemark2 Tue 14-Jun-22 07:05:13

“They will get accommodation and support while the Rwandan government considers their application, and if they are successful they can stay in the east African country with up to five years' access to education and support.
If their asylum claim is unsuccessful, they will be offered the chance to apply for other immigration routes, but could face deportation from Rwanda.
The letter, signed by the entire senior leadership of the Church of England, said those being sent to Rwanda have had no chance to reunite with family in Britain.
"Many are desperate people fleeing unspeakable horrors. These are people Jesus had in mind as he said when we offer hospitality to a stranger, we do it for him," it says.
"We cannot offer asylum to everyone, but we must not outsource our ethical responsibilities, or discard international law - which protects the right to claim asylum."

I was talking about certain posters on the news and politics thread not GN in general but I expect you know that but obviously it doesn't suit your narative.

Urmstongran Tue 14-Jun-22 07:10:04

Ooh that was clever! Give you that. ?
Saving souls? Do me a favour. Welby shut the churches during the pandemic then went off on a sabbatical to ‘find himself’.
So many churches are being sold off to developers. Parish priests covering more than one church area on rotation.
Anyway, I digress.
He’s as entitled to an opinion as anyone else. I just happen to think he’s irrelevant and out of touch. What he spouts about doesn’t interest me, on this subject or any other.

Maudi Tue 14-Jun-22 07:14:45

There is even an Albanian young man on the flight list (what's he running from) but obviously he's lodged an appeal paid for by the British taxpayer, you couldn't make it up.

GN would be so boring without you Urmstongran

All the preaching &‘’you’re going to hell!!’ nonsense is getting a bit silly.

Urmstongran Tue 14-Jun-22 07:22:45

Thank you Kandinsky that was nice of you. Of course to many others on N&P I’m beyond redemption!

Stormzy

If you'd rather see desperate people sent to Rwanda at a cost of millions, than spend that money on feeding our millions of hungry children, then you need to retrain as a human.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 14-Jun-22 08:06:56

The brutality of what is happening.

“This morning, at some isolated spot, private contractors are strapping a tiny group of terrified and desperate men and women, perhaps children, into restraining devices, the more easily to port them aboard an airplane bound for a country most have never been to in East Africa.”

Yes, Stormzy but we are already spending millions a day housing and feeding migrants and that money could go towards feeding our hungry children.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 14-Jun-22 08:11:08

There is a news broadcaster in Kigali who has just said that the EU run a similar scheme with Rwanda?

Urmstongran Tue 14-Jun-22 08:12:51

That’s rarely mentioned GG13 as it doesn’t fit the narrative that we are the bad guys.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 14-Jun-22 08:15:04

For those that are interested, Google EU immigrants to Rwanda, several articles cover this, the camp was set up with the UN and EU over five years ago. (according to Telegraph article 10/06/22)

volver Tue 14-Jun-22 08:20:49

It doesn't matter what others are doing and the Leaver obsession with the EU is irrelevant in this case.

The whole process is wrong. It doesn't matter who else is doing it. Australia, EU, whatever. We shouldn't be doing it and just saying that others are doing it doesn't mean we should too.

He could have been involved with the Iranian dissidents based in Albania, who want to topple the regime in Iran.

Do you know that he isn't?
